'A Nightmare on Elm Street' teaser: Looks as creepy as the original but with less Heather Langenkamp

Filed under: Movies and tagged: , ,

The teaser for the Michael Bay-produced remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, due in April 2010, debuted today and it looks creep-tastic! Watchmen‘s Jackie Earle Haley is taking over Freddy Kruger claw duties from Robert Englund while the batch of teen victims includes my new favorite actress, Melrose Place‘s Katie Cassidy (also seen briefly: Friday Night Lights‘ Connie Britton)! Fans of the original flick will notice certain iconic images like Freddy’s glove appearing out of the bathtub and a female (who I think is Cassidy) levitating out of her bed mid-dream. At the very end, we get a brief glimpse of Haley’s Kruger facial make-up and it appears to be a more toned-down, realistic version than the original. All in all, it looks solid and scary.

What do you think, PopWatchers? Will you go see the new Nightmare? Or are you disappointed?

what next ? childs play ? hellraiser ? puppet master ? why remake something that was good to begin with…….. sure they have better affects now then back in the 80′s and 90′s but thats what using the imagination was now all you get is lots of computerized affects that take the fun of going to see a good horror flick i dont like the new freddy kruger he was better as a bad news bear

        Actually, they are remaking Hellraiser.

Child’s Play remake is in development

I’ll check it out. I thought the original was as creepy as hell and was fairly unique.

From the looks of the trailer, he says ” i didn’t do anything”. I really hope they don’t make it as though it was a mistake and he was innocent. I liked that Freddy was just a pyscho.

  • whatevs

Wow, it actually doesn’t look craptastic. Although, knowing Michael Bay, I don’t think he’d fund a movie that had an actual plot.

  • ?

That looks amazing. I had many doubts, the original is classic, but really-this is an excellent direction.

  • Me

His voice at the end killed it.

    • Melinda

      i thought so too!!!

        Me too!!!

    • Jimi

agreed.. i was down until he talked.. his voice was just.. not creepy.

    • Dan

He sounds like a guy with burnt vocal cords.

  • Sera

I was starting to dig the creepy scary factor, til he spoke…that will probably be the hardest thing to get over.

The scene where he tears his coat off to reveal Freddie’s trademark sweater looked too over the top like he was revealing a superhero costume.

    “Freddy Krueger Origins” …
    how dull

  • S

Although it looks pretty cool I definately have a problem with the over the top sweater moment and his voice. I think perhaps replacing the original Freddy is the problem here but I will hold out hope that it actually is better than expected.

  • thenewnancy

that looks nothing like the original

    • Jeff

Are you nuts? I thought it looked nearly identical in some scenes and I thought, if they are just going to do a replica of the original, what is the point?

  • KC

His voice sounds like Saul Tigh from Battlestar Galactica!

  • Rorie

Cassidy is the blonde girl earlier in the preview..

  • Chris

Feels a lil too CW-ish, and I’d like a lil more grit and a lil less polish.

  • DawninDenver

I’m not excited about it, but hopefully will be pleasantly surprised? “if not that I have bad dreams….”
