“I want candy” by Bow Wow Wow
“Harper Valley PTA” by Jeanny C. Reilly.
t’pau…..heart and soul! what was the name of the song that says he was on a rowboat to china?
“Break My Stride” by Matthew Wilder is the one you’re thinking of, I believe.
I forgot about T’Pau–I was obsessed with that song back in the day. It’s actually been getting quite a bit of airplay on the “lite” and 80s/90s stations around here.
“Just got paid” by Johnny Kemp
Knock on Wood – Amii Stewart
“Story of Love” – Voice of America
Jennifer Paige’s “Crush” … my friends make fun of me for how much I like this song; but whatever! It’s still fun to play on a sunny day with the windows down and the volume up!
Cult of Personality by Living Color. Incredible song–it’s too bad they didn’t make it bigger than they did. They even opened for The Stones on the Steel Wheels tour.
KP & Envyi- “Swing My Way”. My friends can still jam with this song!
Forgot about Alice DeeJay–”Better Off Alone”, Blind Melon—”No Rain”, Blur—”Song 2″, and The Corrs—”Breathless” ;0)
The Corrs also had “So Young”
Oh my gosh one hit onder indeed. Sometimes I blame myself for tuning on the TV..
You say batman I saw Vawncast
Said Oh-Yeah, Shadows of Knight
Ah! Leah! By Donny Iris and Butterfly by Crazytown. Oh one more; Sucks to be you by Simon & Milo!
Robb, the Corrs had a couple of hits including their breakthrough “Runaway”. My favourite one-hit who i’ve bought every CD he released would be Duncan Sheik “Barely Breathing”, though he did win Tony’s for his musical Spring Awakening so i’m not sure if he counts.
I’m definitely showing my age — one of the first songs to which I learned the lyrics was “The Night Chicago Died,” by Paper Lace, which came out around 1974.
Other ’70s one hit wonders I heard but didn’t get into — “Billy, Don’t Be a Hero” by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods (and recorded by Paper Lace, too); “Run Joey Run” by David Geddes; and “Ode to Billy Joe” by Bobbie Gentry.
Young adult/college age memories have already been covered here — Kajagoogoo, Soft Cell, Men Without Hats.
As I turned to middle age, my kids got into “Tubthumping” by Chumbawamba (from 1999), which, incidentally have been together for 27 years.
“Steal My Sunshine”-Len &
“Tubthumping”-Chumbawumba for newer one hit wonders
“The Promise”-When In Rome for my favorite 80′s one hit wonder
