Ty Pennington says there will be one noticeable difference on the new season of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. “I’ve had my tear ducts removed,” the sensitive handyman-host jokes to EW. “I saw myself crying so much on television that I went to a doctor in L.A. and had them taken out.” Just kidding. Pennington says he’ll probably be crying again when he watches the show on Sunday nights just like the rest of us sitting at home on the couch. He says: “It’s the families’ stories. You can’t help it.”
The new season kicks off Sunday night on ABC with Ty and the gang helping a firefighter’s family in Wisconsin. Actress Patricia Heaton lends a hand and Five For Fighting performs in the two-part episode (7 and 8 p.m. ET). For the season premiere’s makeover, Ty’s not just taking on a kid’s room or a special hangout, but the main living room. “We’re switching it up this season, I’m taking on bigger rooms than before,” the carpenter/design team leader says. He won’t reveal too much about the room’s look other than to note: “I recycled a bunch of stuff.”
One thing that isn’t likely to change this season is the ol’ bus used during the big reveal…and we had to confess to Ty that we’re getting tired of the “Move That Bus” chant. Ty defends the bus — “moving the bus is symbolic, it’s moving forward” — but then adds with a laugh that he could send the bus “on vacation” if we came up with a great alternative. He says: “I could use any new slogan, as long as it’s having a laugh.”
How about…Here’s a Kleenex! PopWatchers, post your “Move That Bus” replacement catchphrases in the comments.

I’m just hoping that they’ll give people homes that they can actually afford after the show! How many houses have gone into foreclosure because they gave low-income families million dollar properties?
I completely agree; the upkeep must also be astronomical. But I guess small, simple homes don’t make for good TV…
I’m not sure about the details, but I know that they often go out of their way to build “green” houses that end up vastly lowering power bills. They also often pay off a mortgage…so the family’s previous mortgage budget can go to something more practical.
Actually, ABC does not pay the mortgage. Once in a blue moon someone will make a monetary contribution to help offset it. A quick Google search shows many of these homes now in foreclosure. Also, while they may be more efficient, a 20,000 square foot home still costs more than a 2,000 square foot home.
What about “here’s your house”!! I love the show and in particular I like that fellow from London – cor blimey mate! Excellent!!!!
i agree. i think sometimes the show goes overboard with giving the homeowners tons of stuff. they’re obviously grateful, but what happened to simple? they probably don’t need half the stuff that’s given. that’s why i don’t really watch the show anymore. the new homes are over the top, even though they do look nice.
I hate this show. They should put Ty Pennington in a wooden box and throw him in the ocean along with his bullhorn. That would bring a tear of joy to my eye.
Oh yeah, catch phrase: “Help! Get me out of this box Williams family!”
I cannot stand Ty either. Dude, you’re in your 40s (or 50s??), it’s time to wake up and realize you aren’t some young surfer dude.
I’ve never been able to make it through more than 10 minutes of “Extreme Hangover: Home Edition”……
Stop hating on this show! It may be cheesy, pandering, and slightly exploitative, but at the end of the day it’s a positive show. I’d much rather see Ty Pennington running around making a fool of himself if it’s going to help someone than most of the negativity that’s on TV these days in both reality tv and the news.
Sabrina, I agree with you. Every time I watch the show it brings me to tears. It is great to see a positive show instead of most of the shows that are on, with all of the violence and negativity.
Sabrina & Tina I so agree w/you both. Good clean shows are hard to find. I know a family who needs this to happen for them. How do I suggest their family? I love the whole team, contractors and vol’s.
Truth is,
Ty Pennington is an alcoholic scam artist. The show makes him out to be a great caring sensitive handyman. In reality, he maybe spends a total of 15 minutes working, if that. They came to our town. It was the contractors, and volunteers that gave SO much to the family to build their house in TWO DAYS. Where was Ty? In his bus, or in the hotel, or worse yet, hanging out at the worst bar in our town, drinking. He walks around films his little segments, does his “Ty to the rescue” where he doesn’t actually fix anything, or tell the contractors what needs to be done, and then he goes back to his bus. The house in our case wasn’t actually built in our community, but the next town over…and he got all our contractors and hotel owners to donate to something that wasn’t even in our community…businesses weren’t asked if they would donate, it was…”We need x dollars.” They are pushy scam artists.

I have written to the show about 3 times and I have not heard any reply at all from them.Does TY PENNINGTON ever answer any of the simple things that don’t require a house built? Just someone giving a generous donation to help this striving family to pay off some of their debts that have occured with their jobs cutting back their hours?thanks Loretta Butler HAMPTON GA.
