Just off the heels of the VMAs’ buzzworthy red carpet and just as New York Fashion Week comes to a close, it seems like perfect timing for People’s rankings of the best dressed of the year. The list sticks to most of the usual suspects and my own perennial faves like Kate Winslet for best red carpet, Cameron Diaz for best jeans and Michele Obama for best accessible glamor, because really, what fashion roster doesn’t have the first lady on it these days?
But my favorite has to be best street chic winner Beyonce, who consistently wows us with her bold accessories and always put-together style. Another notable nod? Taylor Swift for best sparkle. Her glittery pieces, by designers like Kaufman Franco, who designed her VMAs stunner, and Naeem Khan, have turned this teen queen into a certified glamazon. Sure, everyone was talking about her Kanye debacle, but the country crooner’s gown was one of the most talked-about looks on the red carpet
People covers all the heavy hitters but three other lovely ladies came to mind when I was conjuring up my own list of the best dressed, like Leighton Meester, who has upped the couture factor with choices like the striped Louis Vuitton ruffle dress and Brian Atwood platforms (pictured) she wore to this year’s Teen Choice Awards. Such a fashion do!
Other faves? Two quiet fashionistas who made a roar on the red carpet recently: Rachel McAdams and Diane Kruger. For McAdams, The Time Traveler’s Wife press junkets were the perfect opportunity to show off her sexy, sophisticated style. Former model Kruger, on the other hand, is all about the structured edge, and as we saw from the red carpets of Inglourious Basterds, she was rockin’ it.

I think we should have the list of the best stylists instead. For a female celeb, to have all that money and to make the worst dressed list, that has to be a shame.

People magazine should stay out of fashion in that it is a celeb mag and serves celebs.
Diane Kruger probably should have won best red carpet, even if I am in love with Kate Winslet. To confidential, I also think some other magazines, ahem, should stay out of fashion because they really don’t know what they’re talking about.
Michele Obama – really?? Nothing against the lady peronsally – but lets be honest – stylish she isn’t!
I don’t know – I always thought she was quite elegant in her dress.
I thought Emma Watson looked fabulous at both her movie premieres this summer. She’s a budding fashionista for sure!
I agree with them on Kate Winslet. She rocked every red carpet she was on! But I also think Emma Watson looked amazing during the Harry Potter publicity. She has great style.
I would definitely add Emma Watson, but not Leighton Meester. Blair Waldorf dresses amazingly…Leighton, not so much.
I always think Diane Kruger looks messy and terrible. Fashion faves: the First Lady, Kerry Washington, Halle Berry, Cate Blanchett and Rachel Weisz.
