That’s right, the Associated Press reports that Mr. Sulu himself, George Takei, will boldly go where no gay man has gone before: The Newlywed Game. An upcoming celebrity edition of the venerable game show (now on GSN) will feature the Star Trek legend and gay-rights activist answering blush-worthy questions with his partner of 22 years, Brad Altman. While no fewer than five iterations of The Newlywed Game have been on the air since the show premiered in 1967, none has ever featured a same-sex couple — presumably due to a show rule allowing only couples with legal marriage licenses. But Takei and Altman were married last September in Los Angeles, granting them all the same benefits as a traditional couple, including the right to mildly humiliate yourself by dishing about “making whoopee” on national television.
Anybody else excited to watch this?
Fun fact: Takei and Altman aren’t actually the first same-sex couple to play The Newlywed Game on TV— they’re just the first couple to appear on the show itself. Don’t believe me? Check out the Ellen clip from March of this year after the jump to watch Ms. DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, try their own luck at the game. And yes, they do talk about whoopee…Whoopi Goldberg, that is.

Let’s hope they get asked, “What’s the most unusual place you’ve ever made whoopie?”
@crispy: Best. Comment EVER!
LOVE this.
Takei is hilarious. Did you see him in the Jimmy Kimmel skit featuring Kathy Griffin as Kate Gosselin?
Since when does 22 years together reperesent a newlywed?
They’ve been together 22 years, but they’ve only been married for a year.
They’d have a pretty big advantage. If i was in the house, I would never vote for “Sulu” to leave. Curious who the other celebrity couples will be. Can’t think of any other celebrities likely to go on-air. Hope they won’t be “reality stars!” I really like the normal Newlywed Show, it’s a lot more entertaining than the old studio shows.
Oh. Re-read story, looks like it will be the old style gameshow. I enjoy the eight (or so) couples in the house much more.
I will call all of the advertizers on the newly wed show and tell them I will never buy a thing from them again if these gays get on that idiotic show Thank You Kelly
Please do. These days, most advertisers don’t want bigots like you buying their products.
Keep your hate at home and I hope you are not breeding little hate-mongers!
But … when is it going to air??
It airs tonight at 6 PM ET.
