Last night, So You Think You Can Dance reminded us it’ll be ON AGAIN, STARTING IN ONE WEEK! with a $#@%ing delightful clip show of The 15 Best Routines Ever. (Compare them to PopWatch’s own 15 Greatest Routines)
We’ve seen them all before, and the only original footage was Uncle Nige standing alone on the stage and shouting, so I know this shouldn’t have been a huge deal. But hello! It just was. I kept getting the pricklies after seeing some of my favorite moments — and ones I’d forgotten — in HD instead of a tiny YouTube screen. I feel I can’t even explain this in words, so after the jump, behold my very random (Mia’s old hair!) and highly subjective 15 Most Goosebumpy Screengrabs of the So You Think You Can Dance Special. I’m not ready for Season 6 yet. I wish there was a bit of a lull to be honest. But I will still be watching it every minute – it’s a can’t miss show for me!
I can’t wait! I wish I had seen that special. I would’ve loved to have seen my favorite dances again!
I can’t believe they picked Brandon and Jeanette’s Disco routine over the Wade Robeson Ruby Blue number! That was handsdown for me the best dance of the season.
I absolutely agree!! But I also realized that the selections were just as much about showcasing the choreographers as they were about truly picking the best dances. Wade was already represented by the awesome Jamie/Hok flower and hummingbird dance, whereas Doriana Sanchez would’ve been left out in the cold. Same reason we were given Shane Sparks’ hip hop routine. Good routine? Absolutely! But I can think of countless dances that could’ve beaten that out for a top 15 slot. I would’ve rather just watched a show where they gave us the dances that they truly thought were the top 15 dances “of all time” rather than feeling the need to cater to everyone’s egos.
It wasn’t really the Top 15 overall, it was the top 3 from each season, plus Nigel’s favorite (the “Cancer Dance”). It was fun for me as a latecomer to see some of the excellent earlier routines I missed.
You read my mind! The disco was great, but in my mind couldn’t compare.
Actually, my take on it was that Wade’s number kinda required that Staircase or at least something to break up the stage that they just don’t have at the Kodak.
They were the original performances, they weren’t done again for this show. So it wouldn’t matter about the staircase and the Kodak theatre.
Ever since TV swithed to digital I DO NOT GET FOX! I’m sitting here crying over screen shots because three weeks into last season I lost the ability to watch my favorite show ever. It’s a conspiracy, Fox is doing a fall season just to torment me!
Have you re-scanned your channels? My Fox affiliate took forever to switch over.
So what where the greatest 15 best routines that Fox showed last night?

We are only at the top 16 in so you think you can dance CANADA, so there is going to be way too much to watch come next week!

Yeah, it’s going to be dance overload with the Canadian and U.S. versions running at the same time. Thankfully they manage to keep the Canadian results show to half an hour!
And speaking of the Canadian version – who saw Mary Murphy on it this week? She looked as if she’d been sipping from Paula Abdul’s cup. She seemed hopped up on something! (Moreso than usual, that is!)
I can’t wait!! Even though I didn’t agree with all of Nigel’s picks, it was so much fun to see them all again. The Allison and Ivan number brought tears to my eyes it was so lovely. There were so many others I would have liked to see – can we do a top 50 next time?
I’m so glad that they showed Katee and Joshua’s dance to Hometown Glory-a seriously overlooked piece!!! And I totally agree with that Janette and Brandon’s Ruby Blue dance should have been picked way over their disco

This special reminded me of something we need more of this season: SHANE SPARKS! More Shane, less NapTab.
I have to disagree! The routines I saw from the previous seasons were so much better than what he did in season 5. It’s like he doesn’t want to put too much efort into the choregraphy since he started America’s Best Dance Crew.

The best dance in SYTYCD history was Joshua and Katee’s “No Air” dance! WTF a lot of people hated the breast cancer routine Nigel!!!

What?! No Katie Holmes. She should have been there doing her Judy Garland tribute.
And if no Katie, then why show the same routines over and over? I mean, they just showed all the emmy routines a month ago. I would have liked to see some of the lesser-known routines. And more of season 1 since I did not watch it.

i do agree about S1. it wasn’t great, compared to the later seasons, but true sytycd fans won’t want to miss it–especially the jaymz/desiree (sp?) hip-hop routine, choreographed by shane sparks.
Actually, Season 1 is probably my favourite of all of the seasons. I just wish that Cat had hosted that season instead of Lauren Sanchez. The “Shake” hip-hop from Shayne was danced by Jamile and Destiny, and it’s in my Top 5 Routines of all of the seasons. I still go bananas when I see it!! Would’ve liked to have seen Blake and Ashle’s samba from S1, though. That’s also in my Top 5 of all time.
I think they should put out a DVD with some of the best routines. Top 25 or Top 30. I would certainly buy it! And it should include some solos too–as I’d love a Hok solo, and Brandon’s solo this season near the end.
I’d be happy to provide the routines they should choose! Last night’s 15 would be on it, but so would Wade Robeson’s Ruby Blue number as it was one of my favorite’s this season. And the Mia slamming door routine with Twitch & Katee, and the bed routine with Twitch & C? And the NapTab routine with Joshua & Katee where he’s going off to war. And I liked Brandon & Jeanette’s hip hop routine with the throne this year vs. the disco.
They should also have some of the group routines… Wouldn’t that be a great DVD??? I think it would be sold out fast!!
What, no Ramalama? That was one of the all time best routines! Maybe they didn’t want to overload season 2. I think it had the best routines of the 5 seasons.

I think the most obvious omission for me is “the door” danced by Twitch and Katee!
I was so suprised they didn’t show that routine! I kept expecting it, and when it didn’t come I was shocked. I loved that dance. I was disappointed they didn’t show one dance with Twitch in it.
Aw, it’s Ade. I wish he hadn’t gone so soon…I LOVED him! He was the strongest, manliest dancer when he was performing, it was amazing. And on a side note, where are his legs in that picture up there?!??
I wish they’d have a “Where are they now” SYTYCD show. Following up on winners and season favorites. I miss those guys and want to see how they are faring in the competitive “real world” of dance.
The more and more I listen to Nigel, the more and more I’m convinced that the internet rumor is true: Tyce Diorio has a HUGE file on Nigel and/or Fox. It’s the only explanation for his pimping.

Annie I totally agree with you! INstead of the breast cancer dance I would have loved to have seen Twitch and Kerrington’s dance for Jean Marc Generaux’s disabled daughter. That one was beautiful.
Some of the dances I agreed with, some of them not so much. I think Doriana Sanchez has a file on Nigel as well because I can’t stand her and she always pop’s up. :p
I do agree with it being way too earlier for a new round of SYTYCD because I already have 9 million shows on Thursday that I watch.. they should have waited for next summer… sigh.
I was waiting for that beautiful dance, too! Season 4 was the best! Also, it is going to be on Tues/Wed and only 1 hour each night. Talk about cram!
Thanks for including 2 pics of Mark, Annie! I was thrilled that they included two of his numbers. So well-deserved! I expected to see Jess and Will’s Adam & Eve, but I’m not complaining. Another “best of” show with solos and group routines would be fantastic!
I used to watch this all the time the first two seasons. Seeing it last night made me wonder why I stopped?
I wish the show had found a way to give fans a vote in the selection. Many of my faves were there but it didn’t seem right to not have a Donyelle and Benji routine, Mia’s “Dad in Heaven” piece or “No Air”. I also didn’t see a lot of ads for the show so I missed the first 20 minutes and had to catch the rest on YouTube (until the vids were taken down)
Fan Favorite show would rock. Also, would love to see the “where are you now” show.
I agree. They could do a special like this every month and not run out of great material. I hope they do do a “where are they now” special (and feature one of their best loved routines). It would never leave the DVR.
