Men doing Meryl Streep monologues for 'Streep Tease': What's your Meryl monologue of choice?

Categories: Stage/Theater

“Some of the most beautiful, painful, thought-provoking, funny, emotionally resonant monologues in film history have been delivered by the incomparable, two-time Oscar winner, Meryl Streep. Tonight, they’ll be delivered by…men.” File this under ideas we wish we would have thought of (for a Slezak video series). The all-male company will perform choice scenes from Streep’s movies at LA’s bang.™ comedy theater on Sept. 5. Were I a man and someone who doesn’t get performance anxiety when asked to do a voice for The Doll Bachelor, I would take on the eulogy she delivers in Out of Africa (embedded below). It’s all about the shaking hand over the grave and the silent walk off stage. Chills if done correctly; laughter if done poorly. Either way, enjoyable.

I’d have to go with Streep’s mini-monologue to Anne Hathaway in “The Devil Wears Prada” after her character ridicules the obsession over picking the right skirt and Streep lays into her in the most calm, borderling chilling way about how people don’t even realize the way fashion affects their lives.

Also, it’d be extra funny to hear a guy deliver this.

I would definitely go with her cerulean speech to Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada. To think otherwise you’d be blithely unaware.

I love when she was on the witness stand in A Cry in the Dark. “We’re talking about my baby daughter… not some object!”

  • Andy F

I second Cry in the Dark. With accent, as all these performances should be.

  • Luddite

That weepy kitchen monologue from The Hours, complete with rubber gloves.

I would also go with the thrashing she gave Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada for not knowing her “stuff” …..hehehehe! I love evil Meryl.

“The Winner Takes It All” from “Mamma Mia”. All Pierce Brosnan gets is reaction shots through the whole thing and he does a good job, but Meryl kills it. Just kills it. Awesome.

The monologue where she tells Stinko how she had to choose between her children in Sofie’s Choice. That movie kills me every time.

i would definitely choose between the “cerulean monologue” of TDWP and the “breakdown scene” in The Hours.
