'New Moon' trailer tease: New angle on Taylor Lautner's biceps, abs

What? No sense burying the lead in the lead when you can put it in the headline. Summit Entertainment has released a 14-second tease for the new Twilight Saga: New Moon trailer that will debut in front of the studio’s latest film, Bandslam, in theaters Friday. Watch it below. Personally, we think they should have just gone ahead and freeze-framed on Taylor Lautner’s naked torso for the full 14 seconds, then flashed the film’s logo with a Lost-style boom. [Insert screams]

ShePop: 'Hawthorne' renewed for strong, sassy ladies everywhere

Filed under: Television and tagged: ,

HawthoRNe-pinkett-smith_lIf you were injured in TV land, you could rest assured these days that not only would there be about 5 trillion doctors on hand to treat you (some quirkily brilliant, others too obsessed with their sex lives to notice you); there would also be a growing number of Strong Lady Nurses. And that’ll continue for the near future. TNT’s Hawthorne, a.k.a. Jada Pinkett Smith, will be sticking around for at least another 10-episode season, the network just announced. Showtime’s Nurse Jackie will also be back, for another 13. (This may bode well for NBC’s fall entry, Mercy, depending on exactly how many nurses TV audiences can stomach.) READ FULL STORY »

Teen Choice Awards: Pole dancing, 'Twilight' butt-kissing, and censorship

The Teen Choice Awards are a loud, fascinating beast. We’ve already presented your winners list, topped by Twilight, which took home 11 surfboards. (Or, left them in the parking lot. Who knows?) We’ve discussed Miley Cyrus’ use of a stripper pole during her performance (which we’re less surprised about now that we’ve seen her present the Ultimate Choice Award to her “hero,” Britney Spears) and, of course, Kathy Griffin taking Bristol Palin’s ex Levi Johnston as her date. All that’s left to debate — besides whether teens actually still use the words “twit” (winner Ellen DeGeneres) and “parental unit” (winner Billy Ray Cyrus), since I do — is whether Fox was right to cut from the telecast Dane Cook’s joke telling Vanessa Hudgens “Girl, you gots to keep your clothes on! Phones are for phone calls, girl!” One the one hand, Hudgens, as you can see in the clip below, didn’t exactly laugh at the shout-out. The newly leaked photos are said to be old, so presumably, she has learned her lesson, and the punchline itself is stale. On the other, Cook was presenting Choice Hottie to Megan Fox and Robert Pattinson (who sucked up in his acceptance speech, ”The hottest teens to me are the Twilight fans”), so he was kinda on topic. I’m pretty sure teens who voted Chelsea Lately their Choice TV Late Night Show have heard much worse. And on a night when we’re celebrating Choice Movie Hissy Fit (Miley Cyrus, for Hannah Montana The Movie) and Choice Celebrity Baby (Honor Marie Warren, daughter of Jessica Alba and Cash Warren, in an upset!) maybe it’s okay to keep it real for, like, a second.

Sneak peek at VH1's Antonio Sabato Jr. dating show: Questions?

Filed under: Television and tagged: , ,

Antonio Sabato Jr. —  former Calvin Klein underwear model, Janet Jackson video starGeneral Hospital heartthrob, and Celebrity Circus winner — is looking for love. Obviously, he turned to VH1, which set him up with the essentials — ladies, cameras, hot tub, helicopter —  in Hawaii. The result, My Antonio, debuts Sunday at 10 p.m. ET. This afternoon, Sabato will stop by PopWatch HQ for a chat. So, watch the sneak peek below of the first full episode (it’s not like you’re working), and submit your burning questions. They can be general — what is the worst thing those dimples have let him get away with, besides dismissing one woman moments after meeting her because he’s not attracted to her feet and making the others climb a mountain in short dresses to get to him? — or specific: Did he know that his ex-wife would come on the show to try to win him back? Is he fully naked when he serves as the nude model for the ladies’ art class? Exactly how frightened of his mother need we be?

Summer TV Survival Tip: 'The Comeback' DVD now on sale for $11.99

We sat down with Bandslam and Web Therapy star Lisa Kudrow yesterday (look for her EW Pop Culture Personality Test on Friday), and naturally, the subject eventually turned to that beloved TV show of hers. We speak, of course, of Friends The Comeback. Like Kudrow, we’re thinking it’s time to revisit that short-lived HBO series on DVD: Her brilliant performance as Valerie Cherish, a sitcom has-been getting a second chance at fame, earned the show a spot on our list of the 100 New TV Classics, so there’s less guilt than tuning in for Big Brother After Dark. And “The Complete First Only Season” DVD is now on sale on Amazon for $11.99, which is cheaper than going out for mojitos with Slezak and hearing him quote from it.

Anyone else obsessed with The Comeback? And who's up for a summer viewing party? Say yes, folks! Because, as we know, "People like Valerie Cherish! And they don't want to see her brutalized!"

Quote of the Day: Warren Zevon edition

“If I leave you it doesn’t mean I love you any less / Keep me in your heart for awhile.” — Warren Zevon in “Keep Me In Your Heart”

Despite mixed feelings about Funny People, I thought this song was a superb choice.

'New Moon' trailer will play in front of 'Bandslam' -- will you see it?

For years now, Hollywood has played a deft bait-and-switch game of announcing that the new trailer for an upcoming Must See Movie would play in front of another film from the same studio that, quite frankly, could maybe do with a box-office boost. So Summit Entertainment’s announcement today that it will put the brand spankin’ new preview for The Twilight Saga: New Moon in front of Summit flick Bandslam when it opens this weekend should shock nobody, especially considering just how crowded this coming weekend will be at the box-office: You’ve got District 9 pulling in the sci-fi fans (and the just plain awesome movie fans), The Time Traveler’s Wife pulling in the romantic weepy movie fans and fans of the romantic weepy novel it’s based on, and Ponyo pulling in the family film fans and the Hayao Miyazaki animation fans, not to mention moviegoers who’ve yet to devour Julie & Julia or subject themselves to G.I. Joe. Sure, Bandslam‘s got HSM queen bee Vanessa Hudgens in its corner, but against this onslaught of cinema competition, the flick could do with a ticket sales booster shot courtesy Taylor Lautner’s abs.

But will it work? You tell me, PopWatchers: Are you enough of a die-hard Twihard that you’ll buy a ticket to Bandslam just to see the new New Moon trailer? Or are you content to just watch it online? I assume if you read this far, those two questions should cover you, but just in case: Or were you already planning on checking out Bandslam, and are now concerned that your theater will be overrun by screaming members of Team Jacob? (Just for kicks, I’ve embedded the New Moon teaser below.)

John Hughes doc 'Don't You Forget About Me' finds distributor

Filed under: News, Television and tagged: , ,

John Hughes died Thursday afternoon, and by midday Friday, the producers of ‘Don’t You Forget About Me,’ a documentary about the director and his influence on Hollywood, had found a distributor in Alliance Films International. Matt Austin and Kari Hollend discuss what happened last week in this CNN video, and their trailer for the film appears below.

Matt and Kari actually interviewed me for the project, back in November 2006. I don’t expect to be in the final cut, as this was my very first time on-camera (aw!) and I’m pretty sure I couldn’t stop rambling about how the girl in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off who lazily blew an enormous gum bubble in class was, like, a totally realistic depiction of high school. (Wait, never mind. This is a brilliant observation and should definitely appear in the film.) Anyway, I loved how they set up that particular shoot in the middle of a small NYC art gallery to give it a Bueller/Dream Academy vibe. Let’s hope that if the producers never did track down Hughes himself, they’ll get enough funding to include plenty of footage of the director from on-set interviews, etc.

'Community' pilot now on Facebook: I'm a fan

Filed under: Television and tagged: ,

One of my most anticipated TV shows of the new season, Community, is now online! NBC is previewing the pilot of the Joel McHale-led comedy on Facebook. Yes, Facebook.

You have to become a fan of the show to watch the pilot, but fret not. Oh, sure, I’m guessing NBC’s Internet robots live off the glow of my personal information, and find strength by studying my Facebook profile — the better to sell information to advertisers, my pretty — but allow this McHale/John Oliver completist to declare this sacrifice worth it. It won’t be there forever, though — the preview ends in a few days.

Here’s a clip:

I am all over this show like a hobo on a ham sandwich. What about you, PopWatchers? Are you willing to additionally commercialize your Facebook page — Margaret is now a fan of Community! — to see a pilot before it airs on TV?

'Shark Tank': Plush pie head cuter than you'd think

pie_mascot_shark_tankLast night’s premiere of ABC’s ‘Shark Tank’ barely held my attention — I spent the better part of the hour daydreaming that Barbara Corcoran, the short-haired lady judge (excuse me, entrepreneur) was Annie Lennox instead. The show did, however, do a great service to humanity by bestowing upon us this adorable Pie Guy within the first four minutes. He’s the mascot for Mr. Tod’s Pie Factory, and officially my new favorite TV character. Say hello to my little friend.
