I do not understand the point of the article wanting to prove at any rate the asumption: Oh Meryl Streep has never done a truly great film. I supppose it depends on what we define as a great film or a classic film or a great classic film. Just a few thoughts on Meryl Streep whom I respect and admire. First, I do consider her as a great actress, without doubt she has proved that in various parts and several of her performances can be considered a “great”. I also consider films like “Out of Africa”, “The bridges of Madison County” and “The hours” as great films. I do not necessarily approuve all of Streep’s choices as an actress but she deserves our respect at the very least for her achievemnts. Do I consider her the greatest actress ever? Or the greatest actress of our times? I would say that she can be safely considered as the finest actress in films today. On a more general view, I consider Vanessa Redgrave as the finest actress of our times (mostly for her stage work though and the amazing TV films she made like “Playing for time” or “Second serve”). She just seems to go further and deeper in her parts and she is simply heartbreaking and so truthful. Now, the greatest film actress ever? I would say without hesitating, Greta Garbo. No one has given a deeper or more complex performance in films than Garbo in “Camille” (may film critics or directors like Mike Nichols or the great Maria Callas and other artists agree with this). And contrary to popular belief she has worked with some truly great film directors like Mauritz Stiller, Pabst, Victor Seastrom, Lubitsch, Cukor, Feyder and Mamoulian). Also have great admiration for Bette Davis, Simone Signoret; Katharine Hepburn and Vivien Leigh. They combined great screen presence, magic and managed to make films that remain classic. Back to Streep. To me her most moving performance was in “The bridges in Maddison county”. She was utterly believable and compelling in this. Nothing to do with the accents or what we say character work etc. A true cinematic achievemnt in a marvellous film.

Well, you may seem right, but i happen to disagree? I think Sophie’s Choice is a masterpiece, and what about Doubt? I think it’s a very good movie. Well i dont know, i end this by asking you, whats even a masterpiece? What if my opinion on a masterpiece is different than yours?

The Devil Wears Prada is the movie that me like Meryl. Doubt is the movie that convinced me she is one of the greatest actresses of our time.
