Must List: We pick 'Batman: Arkham Asylum,' you pick...?

Categories: Must List, Videogames

At EW.com, we’re often accused of beating products and properties to death. If it’s not too much Megan Fox, it’s too much Mad Men or District 9; it’s always something that we smother with simply too much attention. But hello, there’s a reason for that: Some stuff is simply fantastic! Prepare to hate me for suggesting videogame Batman: Arkham Asylum, which hits stores this week to RAVE reviews, as our latest Must. While making the best Batman game ever wasn’t so huge a challenge, the Asylum team did one better and simply made a great GAME — combining elements of stealth, action, and platform genres — one that’s in serious contention for “Game of the Year” honors. Bat-tastic!

As they’re wont to do, the tables now turn and we hand over YOUR chance to nominate (and defend; defense is key) a must-watch/play/read/check out/do entry from the world of popular culture. Don’t forget your e-mail address, in case we decide to use your submission in the magazine! Deadline is Thursday, Aug. 27 at noon ET.

Muse’s brand new song “Uprising” has a rock meets synth vibe and a powerful flip-off-the-establishment message (even if Glenn Beck totally misinterprets it).

My Pick is Jeff from Big Brother Hotness incarnate.

Weezer’s single “If you’re wondering if I want you to (I want you to)” Don’t be scared off by the long title, one listen in and you won’t be wondering whether or not you want to again.

Radiohead- Special Collectors’ Editions- relive the most innovative and chameleonic band at work today through listens to their instant classics reissued as special editions.

Bored to Death Full Trailer- Call me a sucker for shows with talent like Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson, and Zach Galifianakis attached, but I’m looking forward to these unconventional PI’s. Sucker.

My HUGE Must this week is Elvis Costello’s new album, “Secret, Profane, & Sugarcane.” An exploration of Americana music, it goes to show that the further back in time he travels musically, the more he advances it. Truly sophisticated–it hasn’t left my stereo since I got it.

I’m grooving on the new season of Eureka on Syfy, as well as the new series Warehouse 13. Eureka continues as a solid scifi character piece and Warehouse 13 is a great addition to the “the truth is out there” genre. Besides, it has Saul Rubinek. How can it not be good?

Not only does Batman have the best superhero movie under his belt (TDK), now it’s the best superhero video game ever!

Kathryn Hahn! This suggestion might be a week and a half-ish late, but I just saw The Goods this past weekend and she ran off with the show. This, following her hilariously randy performance in Step Brothers, makes her my newest comic crush. She is awesome, awesome, awesome.

Tarantino’s INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS is the best movie of the year by far, and so is Christoph Waltz’s peformance as Hans Landa.

The new (or actually old) unused trailer of HALLOWEEN II, which leaked this week made me much more excited for the movie. Maybe it is because of Moody Blues’ “Nights in White Satin”

-Catching Fire, by Suzanne Collins. I stayed up all night to read the Hunger Games, and can’t wait to see what happens next.
-”The Uprising” by Muse. Those boys from Devon can rock.

EW, I assume that by mentioning Megan Fox and Mad Men you are trying to avoid someone bringing up your greatest and most fiendish idolatry? Too late! Lay off the Twilight.

I was going to say Eureka. I see it’s already on this list. But what I’m really lovin about Eureka is the Carter/Tess relationship. I always wanted Carter and Allison to find each other but Carter and Tess is a nice change of pace. I’m loving them.

I am not one of those people who loses my mind over a cutesy picture of squirrels or kittens or puppies – - – Funniest thing I saw this week was a book called F. U., PENGUIN! which is an irreverent take on this trend of going gaga over cute animal photos (esp on the internet). Gotta love it.

Perchance I am an old fart like the author himself but I eagerly look forward to the vintage comic genius of classic Carl Reiner in his upcoming “Just Dessers: A Novellah” which is a book I am buying myself for my upcoming birthday (it’s about a new york writer who gets an email directly from God). Let it be known the man is a national treasure.

Forget Batman. It’s all about Wolfenstein. I played it at my brother’s (yea, for HOURS) for the first time the same weekend I saw Inglorious Bastards so it was like a perfect WWII theme going. Spectacular graphics and the sound design rocks.

they might be giants, how do i love you, let me count the ways. you MUST check out their divine new video for “let’s take a ride in an electric car” or it might just be called “electric car” — with fine guest vocals from robin goldwasser. the guys sing during the chorus, and as the scrumptious animation chugs along, the horns kick in, and it’s a visual and aural treat that i didn’t even know i was missing. going to see them on tour this fall and can’t wait to sing along if they play this one!
