'Bachelorette' rumors: Do you stay invested after the show stops airing?

the-bachelorette-finale_lWith all the interest in the steady stream of rumors about Ed Swiderski’s alleged lack of commitment to Bachelorette Jillian Harris (we have NO idea if they’re true, so we’ll send you here to read about them), we’re curious as to how many viewers actually stay invested in the Bachelor/Bachelorette couples after their season ends. I watched every episode of Jillian’s “journey,” texted my sister updates throughout the finale because my eight-month-old niece refused to fall asleep that night, live-blogged the After the Final Rose special, and I couldn’t care less. Partly because I expect every couple to fail and partly because they’re off my TV, so they’re no longer entertainment. Michael Slezak, however, does care. About Ed and Jillian, anyway. “The weird thing is, I have never cared if the ‘couple’ makes it after the show…It’d be like caring what happens to my Diet Coke can after I toss it in the recycle bin! But somehow Ed and Jillian…I got sucked in, and while that is hella embarrassing, I am now stuck hoping that the rumors are false and they get their (insert vomiting sound here) fairytale ending!”

To care or not to care, that is the question…

I’m not sending them a wedding present or condolences either way, but I am interested. What I am MORE interested in however is who in their right mind ends up marrying Wes.

Like you Mandi, I expect every reality couple to fail so I don’t feel invested. I would say I’m quasi interested though and do read the updates.

PS. I thought Ed was hiding something all along due to his shifty-eyed demeanor so I’m not surprised to hear the latest.

what i’m interested in is why people think this kind of idiotic show is interesting in the first place! no. wait. i get why anyone watches the first time- out of curiosity and what not, but what keeps you interested enough to not only continuously watch it, but also to blog about it?

Schadenfreude keeps me interested and also, it’s interesting to see the fake nature of the show revealed with its plotlines turn out to be lies. Wes allegedly being there with a girlfriend at home was turned into a HUGE story but it turns out Ed had at least 2 girls at home. And 1 of those girls is the reason he left, not work like the show told us.

At this point it’s kind of interesting just to see what it’s going to take for Jillian to stop being in denial about Ed. Maybe it’s just a matter of the contract ending.

I think it’s more about saving face than a contractual thing being as Jason and Melissa ended things early.

I cared but after the rumors kept coming I remembered not to care. I heard the rumors before the show ended but refused to give it a thought until confirmed. Then it started bugging me so I decided then not to care because this show doesn’t normally work in bringing soulmates together. I actually thought Ed and Jill were soulmates.

I care to see if they get married or not. Now that these rumors came out, I feel like they will break up since the truth ALWAYS comes out and why would those 2 girls lie about being with Ed?

I never watch the show, so I am never invested at any point. I can’t believe this show is still on the air. If you want real-life reality show love matches, you can’t beat Survivor and The Biggest Loser. They have produced more couples than the Bachelor and Bachelorette combined.

I hate to admit it, but I, like Slezak (who I LOVE to read/watch for all things AI) do care ab this couple and will be absurdly bummed out if Ed is a liar. I guess I also came to really like Jillian and will feel so terrible for her if this doesnt happen. Ed deserves to have all his nose hairs picked out one by one if he deliberately cheated Jillian.
