When I was coordinating the Must List, there would be an almost weekly deluge of suggestions for “Otalia” for the Reader’s Choice. Never heard of them? Then obviously you aren’t a Guiding Light fan. “Otalia” is the nickname for the characters Olivia Spencer and Natalia Rivera, two single moms who surprised themselves by falling in love, and consequently capturing a fervent online fanbase. As the venerable soap opera winds down to its final episode on Sept. 18, the NY Times ran a piece yesterday that may cheer up some viewers. Crystal Chappell, the longtime soap star who plays Olivia, will be launching a Web series called Venice in November in which she’ll star as gay woman in Venice Beach, Calif. Jessica Leccia, the actress who plays Natalia, has agreed to appear, and Chappell promises that their characters will do something that’s been avoided on Guiding Light so far: actually kiss. What do you think Otalia-ites? Are you going to be tuning in?

Gave up on GL after the no kiss double standard became apparent. Can’t wait for Venice
Crystal Chappell is very smart and very aware of what her fans want. Venice will be a major success, I am certain.
I think it’s absurd that Olivia and Natalia had a two year courtshipt that generated a huge fan reaction and lots of good press but they aren’t going to be allowed to share a mutual, romantic kiss. No surprise that CBS got an “F” rating from GLAAD. Still, I’m looking forward to seeing Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia in “Venice” because at least there they won’t be censored by homophobes.
Two other characters kissing is not the same as having the two long suffering characters of Natalia and Olivia finally seal their love with a kiss. All good
love stories have to have a kiss. It shouldn’t matter the gender of the lovers. I’ll still watch Venice though because it’s gonna be good. I’m hoping it will show current daytime dramas how is should be done and what generates buzz.
Will definitely be tuning in! Once I heard Leccia was on-board, there was no way I’d miss this!
I am a long time GL fan who has loved Otalia. I anxiously await Venice.
I’m delighted to see how much positive publicity this not even aired yet web series is receiving. Given the talent behind the scenes, in addition to that on the screen it’s sure to be a success!
Crystal Chappell and her production company are following the new media wave thats the most promising thing to happen in a long time. I’ll be watching, most definitely!
Yes we will be tuning into anything Crystal Chappel and Jessica Leccia decide to venture into. They gave us so much to be thankful for, we will certainly certainly return the favor. FUCBS FUP&G
love the dedication of both Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia (coming back quickly after maternity leave to wrap up this storyline). The Otalia storyline has had its highs and lows but the chemistry of CC and JL continue to pull me in till the end. i cannot wait till Venice because I know it will be entertaining
I’m in! It’s Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia for fans-sake!
Crystal Chappell and Jessica Leccia’s storyline on GL got me to watch a soap again, Venice will surely be one not to miss.
Of course I’m gonna tune in – it’s Crystal & Jessica! Bravo to Crystal, Jessica, Kimmy & Hope for taking such good care of the fans. You ladies ROCK!!
When is it suppose to start airing?
My guess is it will start airing on Sept 18
