'True Blood': Sookie + Eric = sexytimes

This is the opening scene from last night’s True Blood:

I usually hate those “it was aaaaaall a dream” moments, but I knew from the first second here that this was part of Sookie’s new Eric-oriented, recurring erotic daydreams. Poor Sookie, with the constant, vivid fantasies. That must be awful. (You knew it was part of Sookie’s imagination from the get-go, right? Or were you fooled?)

This does raise one nagging question for me, though: Why does Eric’s blood have apparently different effects on Sookie and Lafayette? Consuming a little of Eric’s blood has made Sookie a complete but accidental and unwilling horndog for him — so why hasn’t Lafayette joined Team Eric, too? Is he having Eric daydreams we don’t get to see, or does this magical fantasy bond only work when the vampire has the hots for the human? How come the people who do V aren’t erotilinked to those vampire sources? Am I over-thinking all this? And am I the only one growing increasingly concerned about blood-borne illnesses? Viral hemorrhagic fevers are real, people!

I’m thinking that the whole “he was tortured and watched Eric brutally murder someone in front of him” thing may have turned Lafayette off the erotic daydreams. But don’t count him out yet–he did offer to become Eric’s go-go boy after all.

    • crispy

I was kinda disappointed the go-go boy suggestion didn’t pan out.

      • Snarf

        Me too!

      • orville

Oh me too! I think Lafayette would make an excellent vampire boy-toy. Just think how much more fabulous and flamboyant he’d be as a vampire!

      • LaFaLover

Lafayette would make an AWESOME vampire. One, surely, to be reckoned with!

    • ME

Eric isn’t Gay. Far from it. He loves his women, but in the books he does experiment. The Sookie/Eric romance is HOT Stuff and I can’t wait to see it play out on screen…as a matter fact I’m still waiting for it to play out in the books. Charlaine Harris is such a tease.

      • DEB

Read Book 4, “Dead to the World;” and the latest, “Dead and Gone.”

      • Delon

When you live as long as a vampire does labels like hetero, homo, bi or whatever must become meaningless. They are mortal human traits. As a vampire you’d be an omnisexual being.

      • katbee

Didn’t you see the way Godric looked at Eric’s lips when they had the brief “on the roof” talk in the hotel room? These two had a history of more than father, brother, son.

      • ME

I’ve read Dead to the World and Dead and Gone so I know what you mean. Sookie/Eric both have some intense Sex scenes. I just meant I’m waiting on the next book to see if she’s actually going to be with Eric, Bill, or Quinn. Sookie and Eric still havent dated exclusively yet.

      • ME

I did notice the way Godric/Eric were looking at each other. lol. I can DEFINITELY tell they might’ve had some romanctic entanglements…to put it delicately. I also agree about vampires being omnisexual. I know there’s a part in Club Dead when Eric spends the night with a male vampire.

      • Lynsi

yea read the latest book it ramps up the eric and sookie thing. book 4 just tended to frustrate me. I am a firm team Eric supporter

      • Lynsi

alos with the books I think you are leaving out a person that sookie could be with “Sam” if you read the last book you should know what i mean by this

  • Elizabeth

Is it one of those “how it is in the books vs. the how it is in the show’ instances? If the show were ‘by the book’ the whole Lafayette angle wouldn’t be an issue.
But kudos Margaret for asking all the questions.

  • Heather

I’m gonna assume that the vampire has to intend for the attraction to result. Who knows. I don’t really care as long as we get more Sookie/Eric. Preferably more Sookie/naked-Eric.

    • Taylor

Heather, I totally agree with the more Sookie/NAKED Eric :)

      • Mel

        Sookie/NAKED Eric Oh yes!!!!!!

    • bren

yes!! I am so in love with Eric/Sookie more naked time would be A++

    • ME

Yes there has to already be some kind of sexual attraction or emotional relationship there for the blood to have that affect. I was reading an interview from Charlaine Harris and she explained why the blood affects people differently.

    • Sabrinatee

How about just All Naked Eric All The Time (I can do without TV!Sookie)? Sigh. I wish Godric hadn’t immolated himself.

  • j

maybe we are suppose to start seeing that sookie is not such an innocent bystander in all this, and that the dreams are half blood side effect and half actual attraction.

    • Amy Leigh

I completely agree with this. This definitely isn’t all about Eric’s blood as much as I’m sure Bill hopes that it is.

      • ZoZo

When Bill explained the blood thing I got a little frustrated that he was saying the only reason Sookie is attracted to Eric now was because of the blood as book wise she was always attracted to him.
        Still, I’m not complaining… I’m really enjoying the Sookie/Eric dreams! :D

OH and with Bill saying that it impliments Bill, saying the only reason she is attracted to him was because of his blood too. I mean Bill was suggesting Sookie to take his blood (that the Rattrays took) the first night they met!

    • Celia

She’s definitely NOT an innocent bystander at all. Nowhere near. She’s right smack in the middle of everything. She might even be the cause of everything that happens.

  • Javs

I’m not convinced that Sookie’s new infatuation with Eric is due solely to the blood she ingested, despite what Bill warned. As other fans have noted, if vamp blood = sexual attraction to that vamp, is Sookie’s relationship with Bill be due to the blood she ingested from him, then? Or is Sookie possibly channeling what Eric wants (for them to “get together”) with her own twist? Or has the blood fed an ongoing, subtle attraction? Could that be why Lafayette might not be having any of these dream sessions?

    • tnsmoke

Sookie’s “fantasies” about Eric are at nightime when both Bill and Eric are in rest mode, so, Eric wouldn’t even be awake to instigate the fantasies, so, am thinking Sookie has been awakened sexually by Bill (she was a virgin) and is now subconsiously wondering what sex is like with aother man she is attracted to. If I were her I would wonder “is it vampire great sex or just great Bill sex?”

      • ErinN

LOL. Well Eric is known to be the best there is when it comes to sex. This is said in both books and show. Bill said it to Sookie at Fangtasia. I believe him too. *sigh

      • Silky

They are in rest mode during the day, not night.

  • Kate

Well…I think it has something to do with the feelings between one or the other being more authentic (and here it is because, as those of us who read the books know, Eric is growing to love Sookie and he knew a little something about her before he met her), but it might have something to do with Sookie’s blood too and I won’t go into that because while the first isn’t much of a spoiler (since anyone who watched Friends can see that between Eric and Sookie), the other part seems to maybe be a longer term storyline.

    • ginny

      This

  • Jessie

Maybe because Bill told her she “might” start feeling attraction to Eric because of the blood, the part of her that was already Eric can roam more freely. So I think these fantasies are half blood related and half Sookie’s already manifesting lust for Eric :-)

    • Vicki

I was thinking the same thing. Bill planted that idea in her head… otherwise maybe it wouldn’t be such a big part of her subconscious. Then again, who knows?

  • Samantha

Drinking vampire blood affects each individual differently. Lafayette just wanted to feel healthy again. Bill mentioning the sexual attraction probably gave Sookie the nudge to have the sexual fantasies (which she doesn’t have in the books after taking Eric’s blood).

    • Laury

The amount of blood makes a difference, too. Lafayette was drinking as much as he possibly could. Sookie was trying her best to spit all of Eric’s blood out, but she probably ingested a drop or two anyway.

      • fen

I luv the post where people are thinking outside the box! I haven’t read the books but I warned a lot of viewers during season one that Bill was not the goody goody thât we want to believe him to be. Bill always seemed sneaky with a hidden agenda for Sookie!

    • Laury, cont.

As you probably recall, Lafayette was getting a little greedy with the blood. Perhaps there are side affects of **too much** blood — like post-traumatic stress. Now that Lafayette has recovered from the unpleasant side effects of Eric’s blood, perhaps we will see that Lafayette is on Team Eric. I’d be delighted if HBO showed us Lafayette’s new Eric-oriented, recurring erotic daydreams.

      • cheflittle15

This would explain why Jason can do a drop of “V” and completely trip out while Sookie drank lots of blood from Bill and swallowed a lot of Longshadows, but only felt stronger and “enhanced”.

      • Ameya

I really doubt the blood had anything to do with the PTSD.. that was pure situational, that would have happened to anyone chained in a basement & watching people die, waiting for your turn.

I don’t think there’s *too* much to how much, but it definitely affects people differently. Perhaps it’s first effect is healing, but then if there is blood where there is nothing to heal it has getting-high or erotic effects..

      • Javabooknut

Blood also has different affects whether bottled like V or direct from the source. How long V is bottled effects efficacy and it can drive one crazy as well.

  • andinut

Maybe Lafayette IS having these dreams ;)

Although he has other things on his mind – like Tara!

  • Jennifer

In the books, Sookie is drawn towards Eric because he is in love with her – they reflect each others’ feelings.

    • ME

Exactly. She keeps saying she feels really happy whenever she sees him (even when she’s pissed at him), but I think it’s because ERic is really happy when he sees her and Sookie just feels what he’s feeling.

      • Javabooknut

But that comes later in the books after they’ve had a lot more of each others blood and the connection becomes more permanent.

    • Diana

I COMPLETELY agree! I personally feel that Eric and Sookie are, grand in the scheme of things, “meant for each other” or belong to each other. That’s why their blood bond is so strong with such little blood. MUCH stronger than Bill and Sookie’s. The dreams she’s having are ones that Bill said she MIGHT have. This suggestion causes her to unleash her hidden desires for Eric in a form of these tender, touching dreams. Eric is Sookie’s match. Bill’s blood NEVER effects Sookie like Eric’s does and she drank more of it!

      • Jen

Eric is a lot older than bill so his blood is stronger

  • Josie

I think it’s the fact that there are underlying feelings between Sookie and Eric. Plus she was in no need of healing, where Lafayette was so that might give them different reactions to his blood. They also got the blood directly from Eric. The V that people are using as a drug is older, less fresh which I would assume makes a difference.

  • Debi

Don’t really care what it is.. as long as we get to see more of “naked” Eric!!!

    • d~

      I agree!!

  • Patricia

Even though I’m big fan of the books, I think much of what Alan Ball has done with the show is genius – until this non-book twist. Saying the blood makes her sexually interested in someone means that Sookie HAS NO CHOICE. Yes, it will plays in nicely to the whole Bill’s real plan, but it’s just plan lazy!!!

  • vja

is this going to occur, ad nauseam, week after week? It’s old already … and why isn’t Bill picking up on this?
Here’s a spoiler for next season … Sookie’s in bed with me … just when I make my move … she wakes up and realize it was a nightmare. Ooh, I said too much.

  • lilbooth02

I don’t have time to read if your questions were answered so here we go.
    1. V affects people differently because it is not fresh from the source, both on the show and in the books. And a true blood bond can not be formed until both parties exchanged blood at least three times and it works best if they exchange at the same time kind of like in Book 7. Speaking of the books who knows if this rule still stands in TB, but it did last year when the show was being plugged (Making of).
So as of right now the connection between E/S is tiny and Bill’s and Sookie’s bond was strengthened last night by his taking her blood to heal. Oh and vampires giving blood is extremely rare. Book Eric would not have given Laffy his blood. Sookie was the only human Book E could remember giving blood to after Pam and we all know Pam got a lot of his blood…..
    2. TB has spent so much time on the Maryann story line the vampires and their “mythology” has been ignored if not lost in the shuffle. After a promising beginning to Laffy’s story it has completely fallen flat. So we never got a chance beyond the couch humping to see the affects E’s blood had on Laffy, which was a big tease in itself and I am still trying to figure out how E watching TV looking bored was homoerotic. Bill and Jason’s hug? Now I saw the tension there.
    3. Yes I knew it was a dream but I was wishing it wan’t. Or at the very least it was dream about a memory….*sigh*
4.Vampire blood is a healing agent in itself so almost all diseases are a moot point (except the HepD which is harmless to humans but they can be carriers. In the books the only known disease know to affect vampires was Sino-AIDS)
I know I answered these out of order but it was in the order I remembered them. Sorry if I got all “pagey/bookie” on you.

    • Lins

      Yes, this!
Your first point about ‘fresh from the source’ is why I think the blood bond is formed. Of course, it is in the books… and so far it would seem to be upheld in the show too (although we really only have Sookie for reference there).
