The moment a grateful filmgoing nation has waited for is here — the first widely available look at James Cameron’s decades-in-the-making sci-fi wonderama, Avatar. I know there will be, like, two-plus more hours when it unspools this December, so this teaser barely scratches the surface of what the movie is actually about…but I’m kind of underwhelmed. There’s a definite Attack of the Clones vibe to the creatures — which feel like beasts from the sketchbook of an insanely talented 12-year-old — and the world, while expertly realized, just doesn’t carry the charge of the New. I feel like I’ve seen the same landscape on the side of at least one stoner’s van back when I was in high school (the dude who listened to a whole lot of Rush and Yes and quoted Tolkien to score with theater chicks).
It’s entirely possible that the director who gave us The Terminator and Aliens has a whole lot more up his sleeve; all I can say is, I hope so. Where do you come down on the Avatar teaser? Impressed or depressed?

Well most of us have to wait until friday to see the sneak peek. will let you know then
No you don’t, the trailer is on apple and a bunch of other sites.
i think he’s talking about the 15 minute sneek peak of the movie.
My six-year-old son, who tends to be VERY critical and is extremely hard to impress, just watched it. After it was over, he turned to me with saucer-sized eyes and said “We have to wait til December?!”. I think it looks great, and the fact that these are CGI creatures without the dreaded “dead eye” syndrome automatically elevates it a few notches. Add Sam Worthington to the mix, and you’ve got yourself a big ol’ thumbs-upsky from my neck of the woods.
Yep…seen it all before. I was disappointed. Of course I will still see it
Agreed. I wasn’t too impressed. Cameron himself even hyped it. Videogames look just as good. I’m not debating with anyone, I really just wasn’t impressed. I’ll see it… on DVD.
You’re seriously deluding yourself if you think any video game looks even remotely near this good.
I thought it looked amazing. The movement and facial expressions of the creatures looks like nothing we’ve ever seen before. People are too impossible to impress these days because of the constant bombardment from all media outlets. They’ve become spoiled children with no appreciation. Im just as excited to see this if not more so then the day I 1st started hearing about pre-production. James Cameron has made some of the best Sci-Fi movies EVER created and since he’s waited almost 17 years to make this movie I think he knows what he’s doing.
I’m very excited to see the film! Looks amazing!
I’ll be honest. I was pretty impressed. It looks visually flawless and the special effects are fantastic.
The hype ruined it as did the fanboys. Jesus, it looks great visually, I wish they would stop complaining
Agreed!
I think the teaser looked okay…I do hope the film has more to offer than just CGI. I hope their is a great story from a master storyteller like Cameron. I will be there opening night.
Looks amazing! All this complaining is annoying. We’re seeing it on a small computer screen. It was meant to be seen on the big screen, in 3-D. And the scenes from the teaser are fast and fleeting. We have to wait to see the whole film, with complete scenes.
Underwhelmed at the moment. We need to see some storyline. Looked neat, but not miles beyond anything we haven’t seen before.
Well duh, they dont want to spoil the movie to much, most movies trailers usualy fail, by showing all the good parts so if the movie sucked then the trailer was the only good part, read up the plot online and boom you got the storyline der. As for everything else, everything looks awesome, and i cant wait to watch it.
Blah — it’s all just CGI, CGI, CGI.
You sir, need to jump in a hole of spikes. Watch Trailer 2, which reveals much more story. I really want to see it more because of the 2nd trailer.
Hmm, when people saw the teaser trailer for the first Star Wars movie, some where underwhelm, thinking it was a 2001/planet of the apes knock off.. and look how that turned out. Now, I’m not saying AVATAR is gonna be the next star wars, but seriously, I would hold my judgement until I watch the ENTIRE movie.. and seriously EW, not everything has to be TWILIGHT
Haha, that comment is made of WIN.
Nah but seriously watch the teaser in 1080p HD. The thing looks INCREDIBLE.
Seeing 15 minutes of footage tomorrow(in 3D).
Looks like a million other videogames.
“I’m Blue! Bada de bada da-bada de-bada da!”
Did Slumdog Millionaire’s trailer look amazing? No. Was the film amazing? Yes. Did the trailer for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull looks great? Yes. Was the movie great? No. Point being, you can’t get a sense of a movie from the trailer. Sure, The Dark Knight had an incredible trailer and the film lived up to the hype. I think this film will rank somewhere in the neighborhood of The Dark Knight. I personally think it looks incredibly rich with detail and will entertain in 2D or 3D.
I listened to Rush and Yes and quoted Tolkien in high school and I didn’t score anybody.
looked good until the blue things popped on screen .. they look totally lame. i smell some battlefield earth.
i was impressed.
