Patricia Heaton makes Regis Philbin work harder than he has in years!

Some people look at Patricia Heaton’s appearance on the 10th anniversary edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and think she embarrassed herself by taking nearly five minutes to answer the following math question:

If a euro is worth $1.50, five euros is worth what?

A. Thirty quarters

B. Fifty dimes

C. Seventy nickels

D. Ninety pennies

I say congrats to Heaton for making host Regis Philbin work for a good 45 seconds as he finally talks her through the math. Seriously, the man looks exhausted. Worth every penny.

    Republicans can’t do Math

    • bsure

      Ha ha, sweet!

      • Joel

You guys are idiots. And Im not even a Republican. Lets see. I guess with your logic, women can’t do math, actors from Everybody Loves Raymond can’t do math, white people can’t do math, red heads can’t do math and people who wear green can’t do math.

      • steve

No, just Republicans. They can’t do math, or civics, or science, or social studies, or….

OK, they CAN do P.E. Some of them.

        But that’s about it.

  • hc

yea, I don’t think Democrats get it either, though. They think debt = growth! Weird, right?!

  • Louise

I feel for her. I get math anxiety. My boss occasionally asks me a math question and my brain freezes.

    • Amanda

I do too! I panic just when someone hands me the check and I have to do the tip. It’s not that I can’t do it, but doing it in my head isn’t easy for me, and when I start to panic that people will notice how long it’s taking me, it makes it nearly impossible. Honestly, I’m not stupid, but math is just not my subject!

  • Mark

And, apparently, Joels can’t do comedy.

    • Joel

Ummm. Mark. Who said I was doing comedy? It makes no sense to attack her for anything other than the fact that she looked stupid. Why claim that “all republicans” are idiots. Its just low. Obviously though, you wont care. Lets see, maybe Ill use your line of thinking….if all republicans are idiots….then all guys named Mark are a-holes.

Joel, you really should see a doctor about having the very large stick removed from your rectum. Seriously.

One person said, in a very obvious, over-the-top joke, that “Republicans can’t do math”, and you knee-jerk spout off, calling people idiots.

I type four more words about your apparent lack of a sense of humor, and you go off again, and resort to name calling, once again.

Oh, sweet internet, you just keep on giving.

  • Anna

I’m sorry, but that’s just embarrassing! As a math teacher who has witnessed countless “math anxiety” situations, this is just taking it to another level. Maybe it would’ve been bearable to watch if she wasn’t so incredibly annoying.

The truth be telling, you have to firstly figure out that a dollar half is six 25cents or quaters and then just do mulitply the six by the five dollar in questions to get 30 quaters. I thing if I has to do this in front of people with lighting and camera and such things, i would be nerves too.

  • Anthony

Seriously, I’ve seen people with much easier questions take longer. So she couldn’t figure out the answer, that doesn’t make her an idiot. But, the people who are making fun of someone because there not as smart as we think, they are the idiots. This is an idiot, a woman was asked who lives as 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and she had no clue but she was then asked how lives in a sponge under the sea and she knew the answer to that was Spongebob. It’s very sad when Americans don’t know the presidents address but they know more about cartoons. If you knew anything about Patricia Heaton you would then know she is actually a very smart person but sometimes smart people don’t know answers to everything and under pressure on TV with everyone watching makes it alot harder.

    • Jennie

Dude…it was a simple math question. Stop being an apologist. Kids learn how to count money in kindergarten. This question was easier than “Who lives in Grant’s tomb?”

  • mark in nyc

it was painful to watch, she did embarass herself.
ALl the work she has had done makes her look horrible, I didn’t even recognize her at first.

  • Officer Farva

To truly test her math skills, ask her how old the earth is. Or better yet, ask her what she was thinking when she did the anti- Michael J. Fox stem cell ad.

  • theo

Ha! Aw, I love Patricia. I can’t do math either, plus the pressure of the situation would’ve had it taking about 30 minutes if it were me.

  • Snarf

Maybe she should set aside some of those thousands she’s spent on faceflifts and plastic surgery and hoire a math tutor. Just a thought…

    • robbie

Snarf- and you can hire a spelling and/or a typing tutor.

  • fancypants

i thought she looked like a true idiot. i’m not good at math and was doing an excercise dvd while watching the show and was able to see thst the answer was A after like 1 minute. all you need to know is basic US curreny and how to multiply 1.50 and 5! goodness!

  • t3hdow

Eeesh. That was dreadful to watch.
I’m pretty good with counting numbers, but even I had to stop and think with this question. The $7.50 total was easy to figure out, but I constantly double checked ‘A’ to make sure the amounts matched. The question’s more abstract than most people would hear when dealing with counting, even for individuals who’re adept at math.
So I won’t trash Patricia H., especially when she finally figured out the answer after getting through her huge dose of anxiety (with a little help from Regis).
