'Big Brother 11': Who will take Chima's place in the jury house?'

Tagged:

Big Brother fans who are hungry for additional details on Chima Simone’s surprise departure on Aug. 15 will finally get their wishes granted in tonight’s heavily touted episode. Indeed, CBS has been making hay out of her much talked-about ouster by continually promoting the episode, first during the PGA Championship on Sunday and then throughout its Monday comedy lineup (sample spot: “Chima unraveled…and was expelled from the Big Brother house! See what happened on a can’t miss episode!”) Fans technically don’t have to wait until tonight’s episode to get the story behind her eviction; multiple fansites that subscribe to the 24/7 feed have documented Chima’s final acts of defiance, including her throwing a mic in the pool. But even with that real-time info, house followers will want to see how the network depicts her final hours in the house tonight.

For now, insiders at CBS are mum about the contents of tonight's episode, other than confirming that destruction of property (as in the microphone) is what ultimately prompted her ouster. Sadly, Simone isn't talking: Though she gave an email interview to Examiner.com, CBS appears to have put a halt to any further talks since she remains under contract with CBS and is apparently not permitted to talk to the media. (If you're keeping score, Simone was the third house guest in Big Brother's history to get evicted by the producers. The first was BB2's Justin, who held a knife to a woman's throat, and the second was BB4's Scott, who was increasingly uncooperative and threw a chair. BB 9's Neil was taken out of the house, but it was due to a personal emergency.)

The lingering question now is how Big Brother fills Chima's spot in the jury house; without her, there will be six votes for the winner instead of seven, leaving open the possibility of a draw. Though there are plenty of fans who think Ronnie could make a triumphant return, the prevailing theory is that the producers will give America the potentially tie-breaking seventh vote. But is it fair to give viewers even more power over the final outcome, after they were already responsible for a major flip in the house? In his post-eviction EW interview, Jessie made a convincing argument that he played the game fair and square by shrewdly aligning with the stronger side of the house, but America undermined his legitimate strategy by handing Jeff the Coup d'Etat. (And how did Jeff earn such a privilege? By being hot and popular, of course). The Coup d'Etat enabled Jeff to overrule Chima's nominations and put Jessie and Natalie up, instead; Jessie went home on a 4-3 vote.

What do you think? Should America be allowed to influence the game twice in the same season? Or should an evictee get the chance to fill the coveted spot in the jury house?

If America can vote can Canada vote as well?

    • Doremifah Solatido

Who cares what Canada thinks, eh?

      • Mel

Not funny! I’m so sick of Canadian viewers getting shafted when it comes to voting on their favourite shows. We can’t even watch our fav shows online b/c the networks and Hulu blocks us. Your comment is simply ignorant!

      • N

        get your own shows then.

      • canuck1975

Ironic how someone named “N” is telling us to get our own shows… doesn’t it seem the N network is full of Canadian shows? First You Can’t Do That On TV and now Degrassi? Heh.

      • Jason

Spell favorite the American way and maybe we will accommodate. Loser.

      • GoddessLu

Can appreciate your frustration however the same goes for us–I wanted to watch Canadian Project Runway during the lengthy litigation of the American show and I was blocked from that by Canadian TV. If it opens one way, it should open the other. Eh?

      • B

It is actually not the Networks fault for the blockage, but rather the CRTC and FCC that block the networks. Because they want their own stations to be able to get advertising revenue from the online views, then our networks don’t put them on their site, because they won’t pay. And frankly folks, let’s grow up and not call each other names, I mean come on.

      • readb4uwrite

I care. I am a disabled American Vet and Canada is the best. They live longer, healthier, and richer lives. They keep improving while we keep spending billions to control oil fields which we know is obsolete

      • teresa

Didn’t Big Brother originate in England? So it’s not really an American show to begin with….

      • sassy2009

Fine. We’ll just take back our Can. writers actors and comedians and be on our way then. Come on Samantha Bee, Michael Cera and Ellen Paige, Jim Carey, Mike Myers, Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, huge pools of writers from South Park, The Simpsons, Jon Stewart, 30 Rock etc. Nice snotty attitude to have. We’ll just leave you David Frum then.

      • Jennifer

Sassy, I think we’ll live. Although, I suspect those people prefer their careers in the US to what Canada has to offer. I can think of several US actors you can have while we’re at it.

    • Mike

      retard

      • teresa

Using the “R” is completely ignorant.

    • Sean

If CBS does this and has on-line voting, then yes, Canadians viewers can probably vote. I voted for the coup de’tat.

  • Gus

I wish the contestants and producers and EW would stop saying “America has spoken” or “America gave the power..” or “American may get the final vote”. The number of people who watch this show and the number of people who call in is a small minority and it’s silly to think “america” is watching this show or gives a hoot what happens on it.

    • Dude

Right on Gus. I was thinking this myself Sunday night during the broadcast after Natalie said something to the effect of “America is stupid” to award Jeff the Coup d’Etat power. The word “viewers” would be more accurate than “America.”

      • mommahello

If Nat was charming, we would have voted for her. Being an all around nice person, not bitchy, was his strategy, so he EARNED the CDT. It wasnt handed to him. It is part of BB interaction w/viewers.

    • Sun

Hey Gus, you know what I wish? I wish the comment sections of entertainment blogs didn’t attract sourpuss nitpickers. Look up my man, even Canada wants in on this!! Sheesh.

      • Mel

        Here Here!!!!

      • Mike

        THANK YOU…

      • Gus

I like the show I just think it’s funny. I enjoy the feedback though, I definately am a sourpuss nitpicker!

      • nitpicking the nitpicker

If you’re going to nitpick, at least spell correctly. There is no a in definitely!

  • Lynn

America should get to vote which evictee gets another chance

    • K

Does anyone remember Big Brother 1? The house would vote on who they wanted put up one at a time then the two with the most votes went on the block and the viewers got to vote one out. I liked it better that way. And sorry Canada but I cant pick up any of your shows why do Canadians always think the world revolves around them?

      • Jill

I remember season 1 and I remember picking up my phone and voting every week. We voted for the “underdog” Eddie to win. (he was missing a leg if I recall) So yes i think America could be the tie breaker. If it comes down to it, past seasons it has been kinda 1 sided in the votes, so our would not matter..

      • DanB2666

The problem with America voting is the bias that comes into play. Its not a true America vote it is a viewer vote, and the viewers who vote are the same ones that make sure American Idol gets its way. Viewers are easily manipulated as the shows are editted to give you good and bad guys. If viewers voted on Survivor you would never have the winners that have come out of that show. Viewers make bad choices!

      • Sarah

You think that Canadians think the world revolves around them. Wow, that is the most hypocritical thing I have ever heard. Americans are by far the most self-absorbed country in the world!

      • Zach

DanB266, I disagree, because the people who will actually vote the most will be the ones who follow the live feeds. So they will know who has played the best game, who has lied, etc. It will probably be a fair outcome unless it comes down to Jeff or Jordan vs. Russell or Michele, in which case Jeff or Jordan will probably win due to popularity even if the other player is equally/more deserving. But in any other scenario America will probably still side with its favorite, but that’s because the favorite is actually a better player, played a better game, has more integrity, didn’t lie as much, etc.!

      • ND

Sarah – Sorry you feel that way, but it is not true.

The vast majority of Americans are very caring people.

I think that is true of every country – most of the people are good, fair, and well-intended – unless their circumstances have forced them to fight for survival.

      • Lucky

DanB2666 – I agree with, Zach. Those who would vote the most would be those that have BB Live Feeds, or those that can even see BB After Dark on Showtime2. Watching episodes doesn’t even justify these people, but if you see them in Live Feeds you can pretty much figure these people out and who you’d want to win. I think BB viewers should be the 7th vote in the Jury House. If it came down to Jordan vs Jeff, I’m going to vote for Jeff, because he actually made a move to shake the house up, Jordan is just riding on his coattails. If it came down to Jordan vs Michele, I’d vote for Jordan, only because Michele in my eyes is an awful game player. I actually wouldn’t mind Russ winning it either, and I know he has lied, but I think he’s a great competitor and he isn’t as hated as much as Michele is, Michele is way worse then Russ, Michele reminds me of Ronnie. I know everyone lies in the house, but Michele is a big fat liar, and is such a manipulator.

      • sassy2009

Because it does. We just talk to you now because you have the best president ever! Didn’t want to talk to you when Bush was mangling things.

    • dano

Not a bad idea in theory, but the problem is the original 4 evictees weren’t sequested (right BB?) & the prospective returnee would bring back knowledge that isn’t supposed to be allowed inside the house.

      • Zach

Dano, true, but then letting America vote is letting the knowledge of everything come into play anyway.

      • Tina

I watched the BB after Dark on Thursday and Michelle looks like she has a crush on Jeff. And for those who might plan Jeff on that showmance, well Jordan keeps saying she is too young to be in a relationship so if things go south, blame her. I think Michelle wants Jeff, but I don’t see him liking her that way. I am also surprise how vulgar they talk on BB after dark. Jeff cusses up a storm and last night they talked about Kevin and his sex life. Woohoo.

  • Dezi

My husband and I were talking about this exact same subject yesterday. I think it would be more than fair to let America play the tie-breaker. Right now we do not have control over who will make it to the final two, so I think it would be perfectly logical to make us the tie-breaker.

  • Mavis

Most people who subscribe to the feeds do not know what happened. The feeds were mostly fishes for her tirade before being outed from the house. Some of the events were shown: like throwing the mic in the hot tub and her racially loaded comments to Russell. But most of the regular feed watchers only figured out that Chima left because when the feeds finally returned, Jordan made a comment along the lines of “I can’t believe she left”. Also Jessie was voted out with a 3-2 vote. Jeff and Chima were not allowed to vote (along with nominees Natalie & Jessie). So the only eligible voters were Lydia, Kevin, Jordan, Russell, and Michelle.

    • Trish

Your right Mavis. Why doesn’t Natalie and Lydia realize that Kevin had to be the swing vote? That is where their anger should be focused on, not Jeff. He just nominated, he didn’t vote. But to the question asked above, I think America should be given the deciding vote, if it comes down to that. I do not want someone that has been voted off coming back in. IMO Jeff should win. Tonight he was a true gentleman and let Jordan win HOH. He kept his cool when Lydia acted like a total B**ch. The only time he showed real anger was when he felt Lydia being violent towards Jordan. Jeff doesn’t play dirty, but he does play the game and he should win, he will get my vote if he is there and we can vote!

  • Wojo

The 7th vote should be determined by whether the Chenbot’s baby comes out as a human or a robot. One houseguest picks human, and the other picks robot. In the likely case of a hybrid-baby, the baby itself with its advanced intellect will cast the final vote.

    • jexx

My robot overlords tell me that I agree with this method. (Help!…gurgle…REDACTED)

    • Jennifer

That is the least funny comment I have read this week.

      • KateySue

I think it’s funny. And by the way we would totally stay in Canada but there is only 12 people here so it’s hard to become a movie star that way. America rocks besides – we didn’t even have aluminum pop cans growing up until the 80′s – only in the ‘states. That’s how cool you guys were (are!)….i’m sure the shortest building in New York is like the tallest building in Canada…..but we have our moments and our stars – keep shining, everyone!

    • alonso

LOL so funny…. and julie is a sport on the whole chenbot thing.. she would laugh at this too.

    • mommahello

An ignorant thought, take it back!

  • Barbara

America should not vote a previous house guest should be brought back to continue in the game

  • Al

I don’t think Jeff got the vote because he was hot. I think he got it because he was definitely an underdog and America loves the underdog. Why give the power to people who are already “running” the house. Where’s the fun in that? It was given to someone who could shake up the house and did.

    • Jackie

I absolutely agree with you Al.

      • Kathy

I agree as well. Plus Jeff seems like a nice guy. Jessie is rather an arrogant ass who thought he was just going to breeze through to the end on what he believes to be his looks….creepy must be in this season!

    • KH

AGREED! He’s also one of the few people who doesn’t have a nasty attitude. A loveable underdog!

    • DW

Granted Jesse is arrogant, but he usually backs it up with his actions. However Jeff is one of those guys who always gets what he wants because of his looks and his personality. Certainly not by his intelligence or ability (remember the spelling competition). I just think this show should be based on a contestant’s ability to play the game rather than a popularity vote, leave that to American Idol.

      • sassy2009

Some people are atrocious spellers and it isn’t always a sign of a lesser intelligence. I suspect it’s an innate ability like math skills. I know several lawyers that are terrible spellers – and no, there isn’t a joke in there1

      • Jennifer

It is ironic that you are criticizing someone’s spelling when you misspelled Jessie’s name despite it being correctly spelled multiple times in the article above. Do you bother reading what is written prior to posting your comments?

      • Kvivik

Ummm, am I the only one who has noticed the Jeff has thrown at least 3 competitions??? He threw the one HOH to let Jordan win, he threw another to let Michelle go up against Kevin to win her HOH, and he threw one of the Veto comps.
He is totally playing every other person in the house.

      • Jackie

Would those actions be posing? Because that’s basically all I remember him doing – that and sleeping. Jessie didn’t have to compete to get back on the show and he didn’t even have to earn the first HOH, it was just given to him. And his behaviour with Natalie and Lydia was pretty sickening (granted that was their fault too).

    • drew

jesse sucks and everyone wanted him gone —- natalie is the next most hated

  • Snsetblaze

I’d be curious to see how it would play out with 6 votes rather than give an ousted player a spot on the jury. It would likely be Jessie returning, not Ronnie. And if there is a tie – have the contestants build a fire. Oops wrong show.

    • Sean

But Jessie returning alone would not help the situation as he is already on the jury, therefore leaving at 6 jury members

      • I’dratherbefishing

You’re right. They really should bring someone in from a previous BB to decide the final vote, not let the viewers vote.

    • just a fan

      Great idea Snsetblaze.

      • Get a clue!

How is that a great idea? Jessie is ALREADY ON THE FLIPPIN’ JURY. GOD. Pay attention.

      • readb4uwrite

get a clue common r u that slow. Snsetblaze did not say that the jury would change n indicated they might have a tie. Reason 2 add someone back would be 4 BB schedule of upcoming planned events as in the dbl eviction

    • sassy2009

LOL. What if the two remaining players had to split it in the case of a tie? The one and only time it should happen. Or make the houseguests argue amongst themselves until they come to an agreement. Should only take 6 months or so…

      • mommahello

More like 6 yrs of carping and harping, lying and denying, lol!

  • labrat

I didn’t (can’t) watch the Jessie interview but did he also talk about how unfair it was that he was appointed the first HOH without earning it? That changed the game to his favor early on. But I’m sure that was okay with him. When Jeff was given the power there was no way to know who would be HOH and get POV and who would be nominated those 2 weeks. If Jessie had won any of those comps then he couldn’t have been put on the block by Jeff. America didn’t do it to Jessie. Jessie did it to Jessie by being over-confident and not thinking he had to worry about winning anything.

    • SH

If you watched the feeds, Jessie was worried the whole week that he was getting evicted. He couldn’t win POV because he wasn’t picked to play. So he couldn’t save himself even if he wanted to.

      • sprite

True…But maybe if Jessie had not played the game as if he was ENTITLED to win b/c in his view he got shafted last season (by none other then the viewers/voters), perhaps the outcome might have been different. He came in with a double advantage … he became the HOH in a clique that had the most members (and he proceeded to alienate 1/2 of said clique — both Russ and Jeff b/c they wouldn’t kiss his behind. He also had the distinct advantage of having played the game the previous season. He of all people should have known that BB loves twists that involve the audience voting … and they DO NOT vote for ego maniacs, who surround themselves with star struck, arrogant sycophants who feel entitled to bully not only other contestants but the producers. He knew that voters disliked him last season (and why) and could have adjusted accordingly. But he didn’t. Instead, he ignored anyone but those he felt were in his group and only attempted to play the game when he sensed he was in danger. Perhaps if spent less time sleeping and more time interacting with all the housemates he might still be in the house.

      • labrat

It’s true that he couldn’t play for POV but he was able to play for HOH. And he was also able to be friendly instead of antagonistic to the people outside of his group but he chose not to. He aligned himself with certain people and alienated himself from others because of his arrogance. Are we to think that if the tables were turned and Jeff had been HOH and nominated Natalie and Chima and Jessie had won the Coup D’Etat that he wouldn’t have used it? Come on. You know he would have and he would have put Jeff and Jordan up on the block. It’s a game that has winners and losers from week to week depending on what side of the house you’re on.

      • Trish

He didn’t get picked but he could have. They picked names from the bag, or picked house pick, it wasn’t like he didn’t have a chance. He already had his chance in season 10, why should he or any of the others that could have made it in here given a second shot? I liked Brian but I don’t think none of them should have been given a second chance. And for Jesse to get HOH without having to compete for it? How is that fair? I honestly believe that if it comeds down to Jeff or Jordan, Jeff or Michelle or even Jeff or Russell that Jesse would vote for Jeff. I think he got more respect for Jeff using that power, even if it was used on him. I think he admire him for that, he even said it was a good move, the best move he ever made and he said he would have done the same thing!

    • Leah

Thank you, Labrat, for being the voice of reason among morons. Also, there were also scenarios where it could be advantageous for Jeff not to use it. No one in America voted for who Jeff should put up.

      • Jill

yes but we all secretly hoped he would do just what he did!! HOORAY for Jeff! And good riddence Jessie and Chima!

    • dan oh

      good point

  • labrat

I also don’t think they could bring someone like Ronnie back because he has seen too much of the background scheming and private conversations through watching the show and/or live feeds since being out of the house. That would be very very wrong.

  • Aaron

Why shouldn’t America vote? BIG BROTHER was originally created as a series that America controlled, after all. It’s called BIG BROTHER for a reason. We’re always watching, and we should be allowed the influence. Even Allison Grodner stated before this season began that we would be having a way bigger influence than ever before.

Maybe Jesse and his cohorts shouldn’t have been such vile people in that house; everyone was up to win that Coup d’Etat, odds were fair for everyone.

    • Beth

If you remember the first BB had the viewing audience vote who went up on the block. There wasn’t any POV and the other houseguests would then vote who to evict so why can’t America be the deciding vote this year if it comes down to a tie?

    • GoddessLu

The 1st season of BB BLEW because American picked all the fun/interesting people out of the house (because we could see what was going on) and the show was lame-o in Season 1. We should not be able to decide a winner because we have a level of knowledge that the jury does not as to what goes on in the house. Not cool.

      • sprite

See…and I think that is exactly why viewers should be able to vote. We know who was playing the game, who used the best strategy and who just did nothing. BB is a social game that involves strategy, some intellect, some athleticism and some luck. Viewers are in the best position to evalute the results. In particular, those who get the live feeds. This season, the only person left that I don’t think deserves to win this season is Lydia. She is not playing the game at all. Everyone else, whether I personally like them or not, are. Some game play I enjoy more than others, but I can appreciate why certain people play the way they do and particularly, those that adapt well to surprises and changing circumstances.

  • Katie

Jeff didn’t get the vote b/c he is “hot” or “popular”, he got it because he is the only semi-likeable person in the house.

    • helen

I also like Kevin, but I agree that “hot” and “popular” were not why Jeff got the votes. “Tolerable” and “reasonably sane” are why he got the votes.

      • Al

And Kevin wouldn’t have had the b***s to do something to shake up the house. When those girls were having their Jesse wake, he sat quietly and rolled his eyes- he should have said to their faces what he said in the diary room- ridonkulous!

  • RayT

I say they simply kick Jessie off the jury and have a jury of five.

    • SH

      works for me

    • windy

I agree just get rid of Jessie all together…

    • dano

Will you doofuses get a brain. Jesse followed the rules & deserves a jury vote no matter how many people dislike him.

    • sassy2009

It wouldn’t surprise me if Lydia still has a meltdown and gets kicked out of the house. I’d rather she was the one instead of Jessie, just because he HAS played the game while she hasn’t.

  • Pat

America should get a shot as the seventh juror. Some of these tools need to know how they come off and have their egos deflated.
