In case you’ve been living under a rock in J.D. Salinger’s yard, zombies are like the bacon of pop culture: They make everything better. Even, apparently, Jane Austen. But with apologies to Shaun of the Dead and World War Z, the best piece of zombie fiction of the past 10 years has been The Walking Dead, an ongoing comic book series written by Robert Kirkman. Following police officer Rick Grimes, who wakes up in the hospital after a zombie apocalypse, Walking Dead is a harrowing look and what humans will do to each other in the harsh face of armageddon. It is, as they say, about character.
So it’s totally fitting that The Walking Dead will likely end up on AMC, the network that made its bones by placing vivid characters in richly imagined worlds with shows like Mad Men and Breaking Bad. (Which is why I forgive them for thinking that K-9 and The Toy qualify as American Movie Classics.) And with Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist) at the helm — a man who knows from both character and horror — it seems like such rich material is in good hands.
Is a man-vs.-zombie TV series something you’d tune in for, or does it not pop your cork?

sounds awesome,
if this is like Mad Men meets science fiction with great characters than I’m there
Here it comes….NERDGASM!!! Ah, that felt amazing.
If they stay true to the material then yes, this will be an amazing show. I really hope that they can pull something like this off, the graphic novel is insanely violent, sexual and has a huge amount of coarse language. If they stay true then it will be amazing.
I will totally watch that. It sounds great.
No. Walking Dead started strong, then faded into a meandering morass of extreme violence instead of horror. Best piece of published zombie fiction: Day-By-Day Armageddon.
is this live-action or animated?
I’d rather watch Zombies on tv than Vampires on Tv. After Buffy, vampires has become so 2002. Last time I checked it was 2009.
so you are in fact saying that vampires are 2000and late?
This is amazing. I cannot wait to watch this.
this is absolutely Sexy news!
Kirkman is the best writer in comics today. “Invincible” is brilliant, the only comic I read anymore. I could not have picked a better person to helm an adaption of “The Walking Dead”. (Romero should do his own stuff.)
are you suggesting that Robert Kirkman is adapting “The Walking Dead”? The man writes the damn comic! Maybe you should read TWO comics: Invincible and The Walking Dead
Do want.
BEST NEWS OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!
In case you’ve been living under a rock in J.D. Salinger’s yard, zombies are like the bacon of pop culture: They make everything better.
That’s the best damn line I’ve read in a long time.
Having read all of Walking Dead so far I am really excited to see this come to tv. All i can hope for is they either keep it faithful to the comic or do some spinoff that doesn’t cheapen what the comic has made so awesome a story with.
As long as it sticks to “realistic” scenarios, (ie., infection, military control, plausible scenarios if the circumstances permit such a ridiculous idea,) I would watch it. If it ends up being something to do with demons, voodoo, or spontaneous reanimation, then absolutely not.
Who’s going to play The Mayor? Can Rick keep his hand on the t.v. version? I’m psyched, best comic ever!
I would give my right arm to be on the show. The Walking Dead is one of my favorite comics of all time. If I can’t be in it, I would settle for watching it.
Given that it is network television, we will have to deal some censorship.
However, given the credentials of those involved as of now, this looks promising.
I’m stoked!
amc has had some pretty cool shows like breaking bad so i am so f n excited being a zombie junkie check out the mini series made in britian called dead set only 5 episodes but if it is anything like that then its going to be great
ABSO-FRIGGIN-LUTELY. I will be there with bells on.
Please let this happen, The walking dead is one of my most favorite comics of all time. i syill find myself hating the wait for the next one to come out. I like all of Frank Darabont’s work and I think he will do this justice givin enough of a budget.
