Brad Pitt talks up gay marriage in 'Parade'

brad-pitt_lBrad Pitt’s mug graces this weekend’s issue of Parade magazine. The biggest news off the accompanying interview will no doubt concern the sex he and partner Angelina Jolie may or may not be having in the “secret stone grotto” of his pool, but I was just as interested to see Pitt once again speak up in support of gay marriage. He reaffirms his 2006 promise not to get legally wed until everyone can and says, “They say gay marriage ruins families and hurts kids. Well, I’ve had the privilege of seeing my gay friends being parents and watching their kids grow up in a loving environment.” He goes on to say, “Would it bother me if a child of mine turns out to be gay? No, not one bit.” Pitt’s been pretty consistent in his views on this, and he’s even put his money where his mouth is when it counted — during the Prop 8 battle in California last year, he ponied up $100,000 to fight the gay marriage ban at a time when precious few celebs, gay or straight, had offered up as much. Still, I’m always surprised and pleased when I read about Pitt’s support. The Brangelina road show can be exhausting sometimes, but it’s no small thing when one of the biggest, heartthrob-iest movie stars in the world takes a stand. What do you think? Do you like that Pitt’s willing to take a controversial position? Does it make you think better of him or worse?

It’d probably sound better if he hadn’t already been married once before.

    • Sandy

      Yeah, it would, wouldn’t it?

They’ve both been married before! I admire that they are taking a public stance on this issue (and donated money to anti-Prop 8 work), but it ends up sounding like an excuse for not getting married again.

As a Christian who has had several gay family members, including one who died of AIDS at 38 yrs old and 95 lbs it’s a VERY controversial issue to me!

The fact that you claim that being for gay marriage is a controversial position sickens me.

The fact that enough people in California – CALIFORNIA – voted to ban gay marriage proves that it is, in fact, a controversial position. Why can’t you fathom that some people have different beliefs/opinions than you?

    • Chris

It is controversial. The country is split over it. Whether you believe marriage is for everybody regardless if gender, or if you believe its solely between a man and a woman, it is hard to refute that there is a line in the sand, and the two sides are adamant in their beliefs. Doesn’t get more controversial than that.

I’m not a big Pitt fan. Him and Angelina, to me, are mediocre at best. But this kinda thing warms my heart.

Any celebrity who is willing to put their money where the mouth is, definitely earns some acclaim. Everybody has an opinion on this or that, but to support a cause out of his own pocket is a step up.

It’s a nice excuse why he doesn’t marry her.

Beautiful on the outside, beautiful on the inside.

I didn’t know in all those years that they both were married to other people and the twenty times he’s been engaged that gay marriage was legal then.

Just an excuse to not have to marry the woman he left and cheated on his wife with.

I hate how everyone thinks the two of them are so great. He cheated on his wife and she made out with her brother. Not to mention the fact that they collect kids. I don’t give a rat’s butt if they get married or not, and it certainly is not going to influence my opinion on gay marriage.

I love what Brad said and I totally agree with him.

    Worse, far worse

    long live Brad Pitt!!!

  • Jen

He’s just copying off of Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend. They claimed the same thing before it became the “cool” thing to say.

  • Sina

He looks so old now. Glad he got rid of the Chin-a-nator

  • coco

oh please he doesnt care about gay marriage. he’s killing two birds with one stone- boosting his political cred with the hollywood set and coming up with a clever excuse to why he wont marry his girlfriend.
    dude makes me sick.
