Paula was the heart of the show. The contestants love her. While her critiques were rarely cogent, she did demonstrate a good eye for picking out talent. a lot of the people she championed early on (and that Simon did not like) wound up doing really well.
As long as the judging is biased and the show focuses more on judges than the singers, ratings will continue to decline. Comments four all four judges should not take longer than the measly 1-1/2 minute song performance we get to see. I don’t watch it to see the judges. Simon and Paula have been the most interesting people on the show. However, they are also the most biased people on the show. Why not show us more of the personality of ALL of the Idols rather than seeing repetitive inaccurate comments from the judges. I have no interest in a crayon show. I have no interest in seeing Kara choke Simon.

Fantastic! I couldn’t stand Paula. Everytime it was her turn to talk, I muted the sound on my TV. She’s terrible! Her and George Bush seem to be related for they speak like they have 4 packs of chewing gum crammed in their mouth, along with 3 Tablespoons of crunchy peanut butter. Bravo AA, I can relax my thumb now when I watch your next season.
And when I say “You Go Girl” – I mean that in the positive sense!
After re-watching this past season of AI, it seems Paula was the only one who truly GOT the epic run of Adam Lambert…which amazed me because I thought she was half asleep most of the time. She’s part of the show and if they lose her, it’s “Jump the Shark” time…
This is what happens when you blow your second chance (and third and fourth…)… you get dumped! I’m kinda surprised that she’s surprised.
I agree, SYTYCD judges panel should serve as a model for AI and all other competition-based shows. Thpanel is knowledgable, insightful, and harmonious, and the rotating chair has a surprise element. I won’t miss Paula but I will continue to be annoyed by “dawg” and “early aerosmith”. Simon is an AI staple and must remain.
They should change all the judges! All of them are getting on my nerves! Specially Randy and Simon (I’m not even counting Kara) and Paula was the only one barely lucid last season… We need new people! Bring Slezak and Baldwin for the pannel xD

Paula is endearingly annoying and Paula IS Americal Idol, just as Simon is. Randy is sort of a non-issue with me. He could stay or go, doesn’t matter. Kara is BORING and with Paula gone, she’s going to speak more and I can’t take that, so I’m done with AI. I fast forwarded a lot last season because of Kara. Kara’s presence left me cold. Simon will have to carry the show. When he goes, the show will be over. It’s already over for me.
Boo on Paula leaving! I’m not gonna watch because I can’t stand Kara and Randy is almost intolerable. She brought the crazy, in a good way.
Paula gone and Kara still there *sighs* at least my TiVo fast forward button will get 25% less wear and tear this year…
I like how all the articles say she is quitting, when they didn’t want her back. They refused all her demands for astronomical pay raises.
I’m sure with her gone, this will be Simon’s last season. Maybe season 10 will have no judges and focus more on contestants… but then I’m sure the producers will fix the whole thing just as well without the judges there.
