'The Real Housewives of Atlanta' recap: NeNe and Co. are back!

Real-Atlanta-Nene_lBravo learned fast in season 1 that the real star of Atlanta was NeNe. So season 2 appropriately opened in her new house — so much for those off-season foreclosure rumors. Her best friend Dwight, a man straight out of the dearly departed E. Lynn Harris oeuvre, dropped by to help fabulous up her new digs. NeNe has a cute new haircut (pictured), but Dwight had fake eyelashes and a fur coat. He won that fight! Dwight did not approve of NeNe’s clam-digger drapes or silk plants or karaoke machine room. Dwight made love to a champagne bottle and crawled across NeNe’s media room. Careful NeNe — that kitty cat is a scene stealer. Alliances shifted during  the off season. NeNe and Sheree now dig eachother. The bigger surprise is that I dig Sheree. Her bum ex-husband stopped paying her house payments so Sheree and her two kids were kicked to the curb. They were forced to move to a more modest mansion (think Dina’s rather than Teresa’s) and eat regular people dinner together. It was actually kind of cute. And when Sheree tucked the kids in, they didn’t even look frightened of her. Hallelujah, it’s time for an independence party. Sheree was picturing a helicopter and a Cleopatra entrance with lots of shiny met holding her chariot. Sweeeeeet Six! Teen! Turned out that her party planner Anthony was insane.

I admire Sheree’s decision to switch back and forth between cool and Cleveland. I’d like to know who this Pakookie character is. Anthony needs to go nigh nigh. Sheree won that fight!

Kim, who now that I think about it sort of resembles one of NeNe’s silk plants, was back with Rose the psychic. Big Poppa is out of the picture. He was indiscreet! (Baby, you went on a hometown reality show.) Kim decides it’s time to support herself, what with her being a modern single woman. So she spent an hour at beauty school, looking for the on button of a curling iron. (The curling iron won!) Her dream is to bring wigs to the white folks. Actually, her dream is to hire some people to do it for her. In the meantime, I’d need nothing more from Season 2 if Bravo would just coax her to let us see her once without her wig. I’m picturing Diane Keaton in Marvin’s Room.

Lisa and Ed were back. I’m starting to think that Ed is a cooler, beefier version of New York’s Simon. The man likes to hang around. I appreciate how goo goo he is for his wife. Ed is hot for another baby. And I do think there should be another child as cute as EJ in this world. But the couple is boring, even when they have their hands all over one another. I like to look at Lisa’s hair and her cute little outfits, but that’s about all I ever expect to get from her.

Her friend Kandi, the new Housewife, intrigued me. [Bad Housewives faux conversation: "I got a million things going on," said Kandi, while picking from a board of cheese. "Mmmmm, like me," said Lisa.] She’s a former member of Xscape (???) and Grammy-winning songwriter for groups like Destiny’s Child and TLC. (Quick break to do “Chasing Waterfalls” dance—alas Kandi didn’t write it.) There was a moving scene where Kandi described coming from a long line of single mothers and how she’s sad to pass that legacy onto her 6-year-old daughter Riley. (Riley rules by the way.) I’m nervous about Kandi’s fiance, who comes to the table with six kids. Kandi’s mom is nervous too. Meanwhile, Kandi convinced Lisa to join her onstage for something called the Pocketbook Monologues. Pocketbook here being a cute nickname for the vagina. To really sell one of these monologues, you have to go dirty. “You don’t want to be the goody two shoes vagina because then you have no story,” explained Kandi. Sorry DeShawn! Hope the decision was mutual not to return for Season 2.

Scenes for the upcoming season promised lots of drama. Let’s all buffer ourselves with a quick zen moment, and keep our fingers crossed that Kim never gets it in her lacquered little head to put a country spin on this.

What did you Housewives fans think? Is Kandi a good addition to the mix? Have you too come around to Sheree’s side? Why is Kim so gross?

That episode was outrageous, but entertaining. Sheree’s inner-Cleveland is ferosh!!!

  • BBR

    Karen,
Sheree is a grown woman (recently kick out of her mansion) and has decided to throw a party which she will kick off by making her enterance in a helicopter!?! Is there no recession in Atlanta and where is your judgement on this??!! Come on! :(

  • Anon

Nthing was funnier than NeNe and Dwight- “I love a good crawl. Crawl baby. This is how you decorate a house” LMAO

    • Juju

That was the best part of the show…LOL!

  • CC

    Ne Ne rules!

  • lavern

I think NeNe better watch out for Sheree. She has an agenda and is trying to clean up her image and steal all of NeNe’s attention. She is very manipulative. Don’t fall for it NeNe! Remember how she did it to Kim. It’s easy to make Kim look like the messy one because people don’t like her. I think that Kim is a better friend then Sheree.

    • Barry Chicago

Sherree is a hooker. She’s done nothing to earn the lifestyle she think she deserves, other than getting some guy to marry her. Too bad it backfired on her.

      • monica

Preach it Barry!!! My thoughts exactly!

  • peaches

Khandi is boring. I would have preferred seeing Deshawn. Big mistake Bravo!!

    • Brian

I like Khandi and look forward to seeing her this season. At least she’s accomplished something. The other women rely totally on men to finance them.

  • Marie

Sheree did win that fight didn’t she. I may not have like her much last season, but I’ve got to give credit where credit is due..Sheree won that fight.
Did anyone watch the “live” aftershow on Bravo at midnight (eastern standard time)? At first I thought it was taped, but no….it was live. Thank you Bravo for starting that, can’t wait to see it next week.
So far, I’m not sure about Khandi. In the previews, when NeNe called Khandi a little “hood”, I was almost in agreement with that. But we’ll see, I’ll give Khandi some time.

    • monica

Yes she did win that fight, but should there have been a fight in the first place? I mean really, should she she even be worried about having an “independence” party? She needs to grow up.

  • amye

I heard that Bravo felt DeShawn was too boring. She was probably the most sane & sweetest housewife ever and hence Bravo has no need for her in their trashy series.

    • peaches

DeShawn was sweet but a total snooze. Her lame fundraiser, her inane conversations with her staff, her baby voice all totally boring. Kandi is fierce and can hold her own! Can’t wait to see more of her!

  • udwi

Sheree is fake, NeNe better watch her back, side, and front with old girl! I love NeNe realness but she looks for approval to feel validated too much by those skanky broads . Now Kandi is a nice addition to the show but she really needs to pay attention to her daughter and Mom Hell I like children too but I don’t want to deal with them at times, besides how many baby-mamas is in this picture what do home-boy do for a living besides making babiessss! Also Sheree should just host parties for a living since that all she really knows how to do and I glad she move out of that depressing looking house it was old and ugly and had raggedy-worn carpet in it!

  • wakeforce

Peaches, darling. Did you see the sneak preview. Kandi brings the drama in coming weeks. The last five minutes of the show was well worth the wait! Kim is this show’s Danielle!

  • KIWI

I LOVE THE SHOW ESPECIALLY NE NE SHE IS THE BOMB BUT SHEREE SOMETHIME TRY A LITTLE TO HARD AND TO KHANDI IM GLAD YOUR ABOUT TO GET MARRIED IF YOU FOUND A GOOD MAN WITH 6KIDS AND LOVE YOU AND YOUR CHILD EQUAL I WOULD GET MARRIED TO JUST BECAUSE HE HAVE 6KIDS DOSENT MEAN HE ISNT ANY GOOD! HOPE MOMS COME AROUND IT WILL WRK OUT FOR THE BEST.

    • confidential

Kiwi: Why the need for the all caps?

  • Gina

The new episode confused me. It was stated that NENE was evicted from her house. Kim was lost her house. Sharee got forclosed on and got no money from the settlement. so how are they paying for all there new things this season. Nene’s new house? sharees house? I mean I know things are cheap in atlanta and you can get a mansion for 500,000 but i dont get how their paying the bills. And kim dosent even WORK! And they all hate kim?!?! Nene said on the new episode she talks shit about her but i mean come on! Nene is known on the show for talking shit. So please dont try and fool the audience by convincing us that she dosent talk shit about kim. cause we have all seen it on season 1. So whats the big deal if kim talks about Nene? Overall im not buying all the bull from the new episode.

    • Sarry

Where in the ATL can you get a mansion for 500K? No where I’ve seen. Gina girl, get me in touch with your realtor! ;)

  • Marsha

DeShawn, I think you got out just in time. These women are crazy!! Sheree wants this party to be all about her? So what else is new. She wants everything to be all about her, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Bravo, you have sunk to a new low.

  • 904Diva

I know that whatever the name of that party planning place was, they should be OUT OF BUSINESS! What kind of people argue with a paying client!!!

    • Brynn

As if Sherree can pay for anything. Bravo was totally arranging that party. Sherree is broke! She deserved to get kicked out of that office. That dude was hilarious – “I’m a top level executive!” and then starts screaming. Awesome.

    • nic

Thats where things get funny. On the live show the party planner let it be known that they were throwing the party for free! So that is why he got so angry so fast! she was acting as if she paid for it.

  • Jayma

Am I the only one floored about Anthony’s (Party planner)unprofessionalism?? He just ruined any chances of me using his company for any events. He was horrible and no matter the “diva ish” attitude Sheree had, its a business and he needed to put his tail between his legs and suck it up! Totally turned off by him and the company.

    • CoCo

I think his business will be just fine without your support, Jayma. He’s probably an actor hired by Bravo anyway. Nothing about this trash is “real.”

      • Jayma

You are probably right CoCo, but none-the-less, I was still turned off and real or fake, would not use them.

    • Juju

He got on a radio show this morning and said that we obviously didn’t see the 6 days of drama between him and Sheree. However, I do agree with you. Professionalism at all times is a MUST.

      • Jayma

Juju, I heard him too. Saying how Bravo was their client, not Sheree and how he said what the entire staff wanted to say. But he is defending his actions because he was wrong. Calling her the “B” word and her mom. Very immature and just strange for a company to have him as one of their “top level executives”. Is that the type of ppl they promote? Gross! But like you said “Professionalism at all times is a MUST”. Clearly Anthony missed that “top level executive” class…but based on his behavior, they probably don’t have it at this company.

    • Eric

That scene was SO staged! Watch it again and see how many times Anthony glances right at the camera, rather self-consciously.
