Arby’s says it is, but I need more proof. Here’s something different: Wes Anderson has made a stop-motion animated film for kids. Fantastic Mr. Fox, based on the classic children’s novel by Roald Dahl (hey, throw his name into the trailer!) features voices from Bill Murray, Meryl Streep, Owen Wilson, and George Clooney. My first impressions: (1) The “special kids have uniquely colored eyes” motif is very Happy Feet; (2) I want a track of Meryl Streep telling me I’m different and “there’s something very fantastic about that” for the Chill The F Out playlist on my iPod; (3) Wes Anderson has outfitted Mr. Fox in a tan corduroy suit so that he looks exactly like Wes Anderson.
Does the trailer knock your (tube) socks off (your head)?

I was a big fan of the book when I was younger, and I’m a huge fan of Wes Anderson. It looks like they certainly take some liberties, but I’m definitely looking forward to it.
the talent he casted to voice the roles is amazing: michael gambon, angelica huston, jason schwartzman, adrien brody and the ones already mentioned! I’m excited.
I’m excited by the voice talent, too, but was anyone else sort of taken out of it by George Clooney? His voice feels almost out of place in the Wes Anderson universe…
i agree. george clooney can ruin almost anything
So cool! I was surprised by the choice of Wes Anderson as director but he managed to keep his very distinct visual and writing style intact for this. I’m incredibly impressed and am very much looking forward to it.
Also, here’s to a return to stop-motion animation as well! Very smart and stunning choice.
Wes Anderson can do no wrong in my eyes. I am not a huge fan of everything he does (Darjeeling) but I see the good in it and the amazing details. This is something new and exciting — especially for those who love Dahl, stop animation, and FOXES! Love foxes. George Clooney’s voice is so distinctly George Clooney though — kind wish they’d cast a less-recogniseable voice … it could be distracting.
It’s a shame they had to Americanise such a British book, but the rough-edged animation has a certain charm to it.
Don’t forget, animals from England don’t speak with English accents… everyone knows that!
LOL
Actually there was a study recently that suggested animals mimic the regional accents of their owners – so the bark of a Jack Russell from London apparently sounds different from the same breed of dog raised in Liverpool, for example. (To other canines, of course.) Interesting idea…
But more seriously, as someone who read and loved the book as a kid, hearing this is like a child today watching a Harry Potter movie in which Harry is now from New York. Just doesn’t feel right…
Americains goodies, English baddies….Thats origional! Mr Dhal’s grave is on spin cycle. Its a simple story which should have been told simply. The film maker should have concentrated on the English charm, not jazz it up into another yank ego fest. The voice of the fox should be ENGLISH…not cloony’s drooling
I agree with Izziebee and Henning Fog. I actually don’t like George Clooney doing Mr. Fox’s voice because it IS too distracting. I wish they wouldn’t hype the voice actors in animated movies.
Yeah, I too am not a fan of Clooney as Mr. Fox. Super distracting, and not actually a good casting choice. Also not digging the stilted, awkward stop-motion animation. Wes Anderson has made some cool films, but the jury is still out on this one for me.
Is the jury still out because you haven’t actually seen it yet?
I thought this trailer was amazing! If anything, Clooney’s voice here is a great addition. I love this book and I hope the movie is awesome. There were some shots where the characters looked incredibly real to me!
Great continuity with the Futura font!
Jason Schwatrzman is definitely voicing the fox with the tube sock. Color me excited!
This movie oozes with personality and charm. This is what “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” should have been made like, instead of just another second-rate cgi Pixar knock-off.
i just go see this movie because george clooney is there with his voice, so stop to say george could be distracting, he is the reason to see the movie.
“The Fantastic Mr. Fox” (yes, there’s a “The” in the original title) was one of my favorite Dahl books as a child. This movie does look like it’s taken many liberties with the book, but I love the look of it. It is rather funny that Wes Anderson movies have now become so quirky that they’ve exceeded the quirkiness threshold of reality itself and now must apparently be filmed in animation instead.
Is it wrong for me to think Meryl Streep sounds kind of hot in this movie?! Very distracting indeed. Looking forward to it!
