I’ll stick with 1939
I think last year was a great year for movies, with great movies like Doubt, Baby Mama, Iron Man, Narnia, Indiana Jones, Hellboy II, Mamma Mia, Wanted, Henry Poole is Here, The Family That Preys, The House Bunny, Ghost Town, Australia, etc
1993!
1.Jurassic Park Uni.
2 Mrs. Doubtfire
3 The Fugitive
4 The Firm
5 Sleepless in Seattle
6 Indecent Proposal
7 In the Line of Fire
8 The Pelican Brief
9 Schindler’s List
10 Cliffhanger
I thjink movie making is syclical in nature – every few years there seems to be a lot of exceptional films.
Look at 2000…
Reqreium for a Dream
Gladiator
X-Men
Traffic
Billy Elliot
Almost Famous
Charlies Angels
Pitch Black
Unbreakable
Snatch
The Gift
Shadow of the Vampire
1984 was good, but 1986 was better!
Top Gun
Crocodile Dundee
Platoon
Star Trek 4
Back to School
Aliens
Pretty in Pink
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Three Amigos
Children of a Lesser G-d
Hoosiers
Police Academy 3 and Soul Man too!!!
1999! No other year has pushed movie making so far, so quickly.
@Snarf:
Syclical? Do you talk on a “fone”
You can agree or disagree but for some reason I remember 1987 as being one of my favorite years for movies.I could not stay out of the theaters. Some of my favorite films were released that year, and they vary so much that I just had a ball in theaters that year.My list would include Fatal Attraction, No Way Out, Less Than Zero, The Lost Boys, The Hidden, Robocop, Hellraiser, etc.1997 was pretty good too.
Although 1984 is a good year, the classics (and classic stars) are much better. Are you going to say that Eddie Murphy was a better actor than Cary Grant? Or Jimmy Stewart? I didn’t think so.
Another great year in film was the year prior to 1939: 1938. You had “Holiday,” “Bringing Up Baby,” “You Can’t Take It With You,” “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” “Jezebel,” “Angels with Dirty Faces,” to name a few. But a question like this is subjective enough.
Another vote for 1999. Come on, if you’re using Bachelor Party to help make your case, it’s time to give up.
By the way, that list of great movies from 1939 is borrowed from TCM.
ESPN’s Sport’s Guy has been talking about this for the longest time!!! You guys might totally be MEFO!!
is the writer an idiot? did you run out of things to write about? do you honestly think the movies of ’84 stack up to ’39? perhaps you should written the greatest “popcorn” movies then perhaps you would have a case. otherwise, your premise is dead on arrival.
