Sure for mindless movies that keep a frat boy entertained, 1984 was at the top of the heap.
But without a doubt the best year for movies ever, was 1979. While 1984 was great for the goofball comedy and teen angst movie, 1979 had everything, and it had it in spades.
Dark War movies – The Deer Hunter, Apocalypse Now
Goof ball comedies – The Jerk, 1941, Meatballs, Life of Brian, Manhattan, The In-Laws, Frisco Kid
Oscar-worthy dramas – Kramer vs Kramer, Electric Horseman, Norma Rae, China Syndrome, Onion Field, And Justice For All
Horror Movies – Alien, Amityville Horror, Dawn of the Dead
Sports Movies – North Dallas Forty, Rocky 2, Breaking Away, The Fish that saved Pittsburgh
Family Movies – The Muppet Movie, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, The Black Hole, The Black Stallion
Musical – Hair, All That Jazz, La Cage Aux Folles
Romantic Comedy – 10, Main Event
So bad they’e good – Buck Rogers, The Fish that saved Pittsburgh, The Warriors
It even had one the greatest Indie flicks of all time – Being There
That year simply can’t be beat…
*Police Academy* and who can forget when the nerds fought back in Revenge Of The Nerds? Horror flicks Elm Street and Children Of The Corn were great! The worst is probably Sixteen Candles, Savage Streets, and Amadeus(sorry) but yeah great year for movies!
