Just like they did at Comic-Con last year, fans of The Big Bang Theory packed a ballroom today to hear cast members like Johnny Galecki muse that his character Leonard has "gotten more girls than ever" while Jim Parsons promised to leave his Emmy out "for friends to play with" should he win one in September. Executive producer Chuck Lorre thanked the fans and said "they were part of the conversation" every day in the writers room. "We ask, how will this play at Comic-Con?"
Lorre cryptically teased the new season, saying "things will change this year" and reveled in the fact that the show recently earned a two-year pickup. "People out there got what we were doing," he said. Fellow exec producer Bill Prady thinks fans connect to the show because "it plays like a sci-fi. Fans are connected to the characters."
In fact, one fan asked when Parsons' Sheldon will get a girlfriend (apparently, fan sites hint at — or beg for — an inevitable love connection between Sheldon and Kaley Cuoco's Penny). Alas, Lorre said since Sheldon's love is for science, a romance is not in the cards: "He's opted out."

“He’s opted out” for now, for sure. We don’t want Sheldon/Penny now, give it a few years and Sheldon will be diagnosing his systems of love!!!!
It not not a coincidence that whenever “Sheldon” and “Romance” comes up, so does the name “Penny.”
This season, yeah, probably no romance for Sheldon now, but I would not want. It would be too soon and he needs some character growth. But give it a season or two, it will happen.
I wonder how things will change this upcoming season? I hope that they will get Penny/Leonard out of their system, so that the show can move onto bigger and better things….
I wish they’d bring back the red head gal who was involved with Leonard. She’s a good actress and they made a fun onscreen couple.
Sheldon is far too neurotic and oblivious and self centered, which is what makes him funny. Have him as the instigator for all things Penny or Leonard and hilarity will ensue.

I’m waiting for a drunken mistake by Penny with Wolowitz. That could be milked for comedy gold for WEEKS.
Actually started watching episodes from Big Band recently and was pleasantly surprised. I’ve known, and have been at times, the characters in the show. Nice.
They won’t be changing the formula very much, Penny and Leonard will make some progress in the romance department and Sheldon will stay the same. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Love this show!
Best Sitcom on TV…PERIOD!!!!!
It’s just like on Family Matters when everyone said that Steve Urkel would never end up with Laura– but he did and the series jumped the shark as a result.
I think Penny and Sheldon will happen, but it should be in the last season at the earliest.
I’m definitely not shipping Penny and Sheldon. Their relationship has evolved to a level of brother-sister comfort, and I like it that way. If I’m shipping Penny with anyone, it’s Leonard, but I don’t think this show necessarily needs a ship to drive it, so I’m fine if no one hooks up with anyone!
I agree with Leia. I like the brotherly-sisterly relationship that has developed between Penny and Sheldon. Those two are so funny together. I think Leonard and Penny are cute, but I don’t care if they get together or not.
I think a romance between Sheldon and Penny would be great … there’s no pretense whatsoever and they’re already friends … they’d be good for one another. She’d humanize him and he’d bring order to her life.
Chuck Lorre’s diligence in making good scripts happen, and go to production, keeps him at #1 Smartest Man In The Industry…Who else has so many hit pieces..during a lifetime..Rosanne should have given him everything he wanted and more, their loss..Stars need to shine wherever they are…
