I absolutely LOVED this show as a kid, but I hadn’t seen it in years. Those clips brought back some great memories. I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Lye’s passing, but I hope his family can take some small comfort in knowing he will live on in our memories of his wonderful work.
Wow, I also didn’t realize he was that old. 1924?? I had no idea.
I loved that show growing up. I have a 9-year-old daughter now and, at one time, I had to explain to her that the whole Nickelodeon slime trademark (from the insignia to the slime awards) originated with YCDTOT. The show’s presence is still felt throughout the Nickelodeon programming.
Awwww… how terribly sad. Loved his goofy delivery.
I was just thinking about this show the other day. Les must have been a hard-working guy; he was in just about every sketch. RIP, Barth.
I loved this show when I was a kid. From the first season with Moose and Lisa and Kevin through the later ones with Alanis and Alastair. “Barth, these hamburgers taste like horse meat!” RIP Mr. Lye.
Such a great and unheralded character actor. Barth was like my babysitter after school when I was young, this is just too sad that “I don’t know” what to say really.
Good Lord I loved that show!
I loved that show! He will be missed.
Me and my dad loved this show so much that he dressed up like the slob Father (Senator Prevert) for Halloween – and he was the elementary school principal.hehe
Gonna miss you, Barth er I mean Les.
Did he ever finish his “memoir” about the show?
Oh man, I love YCDTOTV when I was a kid. Sad to hear of Les’ passing. He was always hilarious (even if Barth creeped me out). Maybe now they’ll manufacture more DVD sets (since I never was able to buy one).
You Can’t Do That On Television was one of my favorite shows as a kid, but they’re still hilarious and witty even today. Les Lye was the glue that held the show together. I hope he knew how much he contributed to my childhood and how many funny bones he tickled.
They shot YCDTOTV about a mile from my childhood home. It was my dream to be an actor on the show. Never happened but I came close. Sorry I never got to work with you, Les. RIP
OMG!!! i can’t believe it! i love this show, sad news
They definitely need to release the show on DVD so we can watch it all over again.
And make sure to release UFO Kidnapped! Les in a dramatic role! Great stuff!
