how has no one nominated eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (a completely unique movie from a mastermind) or fight club?
the movie was amazing the first time but it keeps getting better and better everytime you watch it because you catch all the little things you missed the first time. Plus, one of kate winslets best performances. ALSO, visually and creatively so cool. The scene where joel reverts to being a kid while clem watches him and talks to his mother is hilarious and weird and amazing all at the same time.
1.Crash
2.Finding Nemo
3.Dark Knight
4.The Hangover
5.LOTR Triology
how has no one submitted either eternal sunshine of the spotless mind OR fight club.
Especially in the case of eternal sunshine it is just completely unique and creative but still emotionally raw and it gets better everytime you see it because of all the things you missed the first time. Plus, visually so cool.
In terms of foreign films, “City of God,” “Cache,” “The Devil’s Backbone,” and “The Lives of Others” are all worthy nominees.
5. The Incredibles- need at least one PIXAR on the list.
4. LOTR triology
3. O Brother Where Art Thou
2. Master and Commander
1. No Country for Old Men
Honorable Mention: Mystic River, Catch Me If You Can, History of Violence, Spirit Away
1. The Dark Knight
2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
3. Finding Nemo
I like a lot of those choices, especially The Dark Knight, Requiem for a Dream, Stardust (so underrated), and Moulin Rouge, but I have to throw Brokeback Mountain into the mix. I can’t turn that movie off…it’s beautifully made, beautifully acted, and any scene will suck me in. No matter how many times I’ve seen it, when Ennis finds that Jack kept his shirt, I tear up instantly.
When I think about it, there have been REALLY a lot of good movies this decade.
The Royal Tenenbaums
Children of Men
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
The Dark Knight
There Will Be Blood
and scores of others. Go Aughts!
In no particular order…
Pan’s Labrinth
Finding Nemo
Elf
The Dark Knight
The Departed
Shaun of the Dead
O Brother, Where Art Though?
-The Dark Knight
-Lord of the Rings the Return of the King (unless the whole trilogy is allowed…)
-Finding Nemo
BTW, Fight Club came out last century, 1999.
5. Moulin Rouge! – the second Nicole Kidman comes on screen.
4. Memento – that first gun shot
3. The Dark Knight – the “magic trick”
2. Chicago – Fosse a la Rob Marshall is present from the first time we hear “Come on babe…”
1. Almost Famous – almost any scene with Kate Hudson’s Penny Lane
HALF NELSON – the drug exchange
ONCE – the first time they play together
INTO THE WILD – when Chris leaves the old man
GHOST WORLD – Enid working at the movie theatre
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Royal Tenenbaums
1. In America – As many times as I’ve seen this, the sequences with the air conditioner and the carnival game still jangle my nerves.
2. Sideways – Miles and Maya’s revealing discussion about wine is probably the best dialogue I’ve heard all decade.
3. A Mighty Wind – “A Kiss At The End Of The Rainbow.” ‘Nuff said.
