Chris Harrison blogs 'The Bachelorette': episode 10

Chris-Harrison-ext_l You'll have to bear with me. As some of my Twitter friends already know, I attempted to type this week's blog on my iPhone while attending an AYSO coaches meeting. There's two hours of my life I'll never get back. But at least I now know not to yell at kids, leave trash, or bring dogs on school property. Contrary to some comments, I still read most if not all of your comments. Some have mentioned that I've gotten away from talking about behind-the-scenes stuff. I'll try to do better about that. I've also noticed a lot of anger in the air. Look, I realize these are tough economic times. I also realize our government is attempting to spend more money than our children's children's children will ever be able to pay back but let's remember what a very famous man once said: "All you need is love." And that's what this show is all about. Take away the guys crying on banisters, oil rubdowns (Wow, I felt a little uncomfortable watching that one myself), rumors and lies…this show comes down to one simple word: LOVE. You can all speculate and talk about Jillian's choices and character but bottom line is next Monday night you will all see firsthand if she found what she was so desperately looking for. I also read that many of you are up in arms over who we have or haven't chosen as our next Bachelor. Relax people, I can tell you with one hundred percent certainty that we have not picked our next bachelor. In fact, I'd love to continue to hear your comments on who you would like to see in that role and why. Oh, Amy, sorry that this new blog picture isn't much better. I have to agree, it looks like I'm wearing my dad's suit. Still not sure how those pics get chosen to be on the blog. I'm going to ask my friend Gilles Marini if he'll let me use one of his shirtless photos from now on.

Let's talk about this week's special, "Men Tell All." I will be honest, I didn't expect a whole lot from these guys. First of all, guys rarely hold grudges for very long, and this show is shot eight weeks after the taping has concluded. Secondly, guys are like goldfish. Sure we get mad but two seconds later we're distracted and we forget and move on. This wasn't the case with this group of guys. This show got out of hand in a hurry. I mean, come on. Did anybody ever expect Jake to throw out an "F" bomb? Because the guys were so good, we had to edit the show a bit more than we expected. We planned on showing some other fluff stuff, like a cute piece about former bachelors and bachelorettes who got together for a "reunion" in Vegas. The taping started with about 20 minutes of the guys ganging up on Jake. I'll admit I do understand where the guys are coming from here but what I don't get is how worked up they get about it. Who cares if he comes off as "Mr. Perfect." I don't recall asking any of them to marry him.

One thing you didn't see was after Jake, the guys spent about 20 minutes crushing Juan. This I found hysterical. Basically, what it all boiled down to was Juan wasn't like them, didn't act like them, drink like them, dress like them, or talk like them. This was just more than these guys could handle and they let Juan have it in the house and on the show. It was truly like stepping back into high school all over again. Only this time, instead of wanting to be like the cool kids, I just really felt sorry for them. As my wife put it best, it's shocking many of them are still single.

I do want to talk a bit about David. Enough was said about this ridiculous "man code" on the special, so I'm done with that. I have to say I was very happy and a little impressed that he apologized to Jillian about the way he acted. Although it was a very heartfelt, sincere apology, the problem is to this day he still doesn't understand what he did wrong. He doesn't get that you just don't treat women like that and you certainly don't put them in that position. There were so many times during the taping where I found myself trying to teach these boys life lessons. Damn you guys for that. Look I had a great time in the frat house back in college too, but it's time to stop worrying about who's doing shots and maybe worry about being a decent human being. Damn you for making me get on a soap box. I'm going to fake a shot and continue.

There is one other major (rather very minor) event we saved you from ever seeing on TV. When I was saying goodbye to Jillian, Brian, who stripped down on night one, was going to do a funny striptease but he had on a Canadian flag thong. Brian's striptease was so long and so pathetic we had to cut it out. Believe me when I tell you you're all better off.

Before I wrap up my thoughts on this episode I have to once again deal with Wes. It is my hope that these will be my final words, as in the end he didn't really amount to much on this show or in Jillian's life. I saw in last week's comments that Wes declined coming on the show but then asked to be on only to be turned down. That is all true, but as usual with rumors too much of the truth has been left out. Wes did originally decline coming on the show. At the eleventh hour he had a change of heart and wanted to be on the show. Why the change of heart? With Wes there's always a scheme and it didn't take long to figure it out. Wes had called several of the guys (I'll let you guess who) to make sure they would back him up if he came back and only then did he call and ask to be back on the show. My opinion was I've heard enough B.S. to last me a lifetime with this guy. He doesn't matter in the grand scheme of Jillian's life so there's no reason to put up with any more of his Texas sayings and shenanigans (love that word). On the other hand I was very sorry Reid couldn't make it. He's a great guy who I enjoyed getting to know this season. Jillian also loved him and I hope to be able to bring him back on the "After the Final Rose" special next week so we can get his side of the story.

As you heard Jillian say at the end of the show, she's as happy as she's ever been. I can't wait for all of you to watch the end of this season. I'll be interested to read your comments next Wednesday (that's after the "After the Final Rose" special). I leave you this week with the thoughts from one of your own:

Oh Chris, you know your doing something right when all of these people, good or bad, are here leaving comments! It blows my mind why people comment if they dont even like the show. Guess they have nothing better to do! Anyway, I just want to know if this is going to be the most dramatic bachelorette finale EVER?! Love the show Chris, I also think your hilarious!

Sarah, the answer is yes… this will be the most dramatic finale EVER!!!!!

You never said who voted you off when the guys had a chance to vote a guy they wanted off the show! Was it Reid?
Reid is shown in the commercial for the finale. Why did the show change his voice in the commercial shown Sunday? What prior engagement did he have?

  • lls

Great job Chris, you kept me laughing the whole time and are a refreshing dose of reality. You have a skill for saying what all of us watching wish we could. However, you might want to consider that most people watching have seen the past eps so maybe fewer video montages, more hearing the men “tell all.” Also, what was with that tie?

  • Lin

Chris, a guy with girlfriends at home, who still thinks he is in the frat house, who likes to call people turds and enjoys farting in public and getting quite junk – please tell me you saved Jillian from him!!

  • Maria Pia Zubiate

    Hey Chris!!
this man tell all was probably my favorite one :) … the part i loved the most was when Michael Stagliano spoke to Jillian!! what a sweet heart!!
BUt i have a question.. like you said in your blog that you had clips of the “reunion” of the past bachelors and bachelorettes… are we gonna be able to see that sometime or see it online??
    thank you!

  • Lin

If he isn’t Jillian’s F1, Reid for Bachelor!! He was a diamond in the rough!!!
Chris, did you mean anything by saying Reid had a “previous engagement”?

  • ella

My hope has been restored! I wasn’t going to watch next week, but now I have to. If Jillian turns Reid down again; I will lead the crusade for him to be the next Bachelor. He is funny, clever, adorable, sincere…if only I was single. He’s got it all!!!

  • MT

So excited for the finale. I hope she picks Reid.

  • KChochy

Well Chris, you didn’t fool me. Reid was not ‘busy.’ He obviously just has an important role to play in the finale.

  • Astro

Does your comment about wanting to hear what people say after the AFR instead of after the FRC mean that we are going to be getting another trainwreck like last year?
Not again! Sigh . . . This crap is getting old.

  • Katie

Love Michael and Mike! Missed seeing Reid! Jesse looked hot. Dave is a clueless idiot and in need of serious professional help. The rest of the guys…meh! Great job Jillian weeding out the keepers!
Please no Jake as the next bachelor…he may be nice but he’s boring!
Jill…you’re the best! Love you and hope you found what you were looking for…..if not, you made some friends for life I suspect! Cheers.

  • MT

So excited for the finale. Jillian is so adorable, and if she ends up with Reid, it will be up there with the Mer/Ian finale.

  • Reidforbrains

I hope Reid comes back and steals Jillian away. Why does it even make sense that you show Jillian being afraid of letting someone go that she was falling for only to be turned down again. I can’t take it! He better be the next Bachelor if he’s not in Jillian’s heart

  • Karen

I love that Wes was not there. He makes my skin crawl. Would not want his CD if they gave it to me for free.

  • Joanne

Chris – Thank you for always being the voice of reason in a very goofy situation. Few comments – too much Man Code Dave…not enough Stagliano. Weird that Jesse made it to the final five and uttered only two or three sentences. Jillian was very impressive – glad she acknowledged poor broken hearted Michael. Where did you find these women in the audience, a needlepoint convention? They screamed their heads off for fake Jake? Last thing we needed to see on our TV, but okay. Was it true it too eight hours to tape? What I wouldn’t give to throw a few cocktails in you and get the real scoop. Who did you really like? Who couldn’t you stand? Seems to me the producers are now backing over Ed with bus. He must have done something wrong – loved him, but dude cannot hold his beverages. In the words of one Jillian Harris – “let’s get this sh-t done”

Hi Chris I’m a fellow tv host living in LA, a Canadian, too, so loving this season. There is one shot in the previews for next week where Ed and Jillian are kissing under the waterfall, and they are so locked onto each other, well, it said it all… Looking forward to the finale, but then what??!! You do a fantastic job on the show. The men tell all frightened me-boys, boys boys.

  • Laura

People who say that women are bitcher and hold a grudge longer than men clearly hasn’t met this group of guys. What was that all about?!?! Chris, I loved your comment when they were harrassing Juan, “Why does it matter if he faked a shot?” You know it’s dramatic season when the foot fetish guy is the tamest thing on the show! Love the way you kept them in line Chris, here’s hoping Jilly finds her man.

  • tammy

chris, the last 2 seconds of the preview got me excited. But your blog makes me sad. Doesn’t look good for Reid when he comes back. Won’t be watching.

  • Karen

    Michael for the next bachelor.

  • Reidforbrains

And Chris why are you acting like Reid isn’t on the show next week? This is awful! You people are cruel…why do I love this show?

  • Mandy

Did your wife really say that she is shocked that many of these guys are still single? The way you write about them, it seems that it would be shocking if they were in relationships!
Please no Jake for the Bachelor. I’m afraid he would be a basket case at every elimination because he’d have to hurt someone’s feelings.
I’m guessing that ABC is thinking of Reid (just in case Jill turns him down, which I think will happen). He’ll be very appealing when he appears to get his heart broken twice. However, I would really like Michael. He and his twin would be so funny and he seems like a really nice guy.

  • Robin

Chris, I’m addicted to the show. I only have one thing to say… You have to have a great sense of humor to put up with all of the BS people seem to like to put you through!!

  • Laura

Please, do NOT pick Jake for the next bachelor. Boring. Either Ed or Kypton (whoever J doesn’t pick) or the breakdancer!

  • sharon

Not a bad show Chris, considering how lame these tell all shows tend to be. Entirely too much Jake and Dave but overall good enough that I watched the whole way through.
Can hardly wait to see Jilly choose Ed next week. They are such a good pair. Wish you had shown more of Ed’s fun moments on tv (other than drinking and farting – he must have really ticked off TPTB the way you’re trying to discredit him). Ed’s a very funny guy in real life and I hope he and Jillian are having the last laugh.

  • Andie

Chris – are you a conservative?!? I think I may like you even more now.

  • melissa

I’m embarrased to say, but I don’t know what I will do with myself when this is all over! All my friends can’t stop talking about the drama drama drama! It will be hard to find as decent a human being as Jillian again for the bachelor/bachelorette. She is so warm, loving, humble, kind and compassionate. She embodies all that makes someone truly “good”. I will miss watching her adventure. I am hoping so much for that happy ending, but know that whether she is with someone or not, she will be happy. Pretty dramatic tell all. Chris do you really believe David’s apology was heart felt? I’m surprised he even had one…..a heart that is. Can’t wait to tune in….hope it’s Reid and if not he should definitley be the next bachelor…..NOT Jake. I will say it again, Please not Jake. That guy gives me the creeps. I think he suffers from dillusions of grandure. In the words of Chandler Bing….Could he BE anymore perfect? Perfectly slimy….eeeeeeewwwwwwwwwww.

  • Alendra

Thanks Chris! I hope Jilly picks no one, if she doesn’t pick Reid! I’d love for Kip, Jesse, or Michael (with his twin) as the next Bachelor; but please NO Jake! (No ED either)! :)

    Thoughts:
There was not enough Michael on the MTA. Just because he wasn’t controversial doesn’t mean he shouldn’t have had an interview.
I still want to believe Jake is a genuine guy. I didn’t know so many of the guys were against him. He never claimed to be perfect, he just reiterated what other people have said about him.
My question is…why would Wes even CARE who’s on his side? He doesn’t strike me as the kind of person who cares what people think of him.
Jesse was kind of a jerk in this episode. He seemed to only have negative things to say about people.
In the end, I think Jillian will choose Ed. But I guess you could say I just don’t “get” it with those two. Ed always seems so blank and boring and like he’s devoid of any emotion. How could there be such a strong connection between them?
The suit is fine, Chris, it’s the spray tan that went wrong! Kidding, kidding.

  • Joc

Aww Chris, you seemed so protective of Jillian tonight. I loved the way you kept those meatheads in line. (Not that she really needs the help; she’s a feisty one.) You also have very good taste. You’re right – Reid is a stand-up person; I hope he comes to ATFR as Jilly’s fiancee. He’s perfect for her. We, his legion of fans, hope she realized that.
