Blake Lewis' new single embraces sadness with a bumpin' beat

Slezak is currently super-busy sweet-talking season 7 Idol Brooke White into performing liiiiiiiiiive! in front of our mailboxes. (Seriously, that is happening right now.) So it's up to me to announce that Blake Lewis' lead single from the superbly titled Heartbreak on Vinyl, "Sad Song," is available on iTunes. You can preview it below. In the spirit of Slezak, "Ch-ch-check it out! Ponies!" Or something.

Pretty good. I generally dig anything with a dance beat that makes me feel like I'm bopping through space at a downward slope of about 185 degrees. Nothing drastic, just a slight tilt. I'm in no hurry to touch down. Your trajectory may vary.

What's with Blake's invasion of the season 6 "battlefield" territory? Jordin Sparks might have to unleash her smoke machine on him. Better go get your armor, sir!

    Love it. It’s very ’80s-tastic, much like ADD was.

    Why does all of his marketing material look like it belongs on the cover of a Trapper Keeper?

    I just happened to read on another entertainment site that today is Blake Lewis’ birthday – so this seems like a great way to celebrate that!

    Very good production. His voice sounds good, even if it’s somewhat buried in techno gadgetry, you know it’s him. Hook and melody are ok but overall a leap above most of the other Idol contestant productions.

    Crispy – VERY FUNNY BECAUSE IT DOES LOOK LIKE TRAPPER KEEPER ART WORK!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I heard “Sad Song” yesterday morning, and it’s been stuck in my head since. LOVE it. Buy the new single to celebrate his birthday!

    I know that Blake loooves his little electro-pop composition box, but this song will not be played on the radio. Sorry. I don’t get why he doesn’t do more songs like that Keane performance on Idol.. that was my favorite. Or even Maroon 5 or the 311 style–something where you can hear his voice more, different instruments, a true pop song.

    Yay on Brooke!! Make it happen Slezak.
    More season 7ers

    hmmm…it reminds me of Erasure

    I love Blake, but I hope that he has more than 80′s remix on his 2nd album. I’d like to hear something that hits harder and less synth. At least he didn’t go down the autotune road…yet.

    I don’t know !! It dosen’t sound like his kind of song|||

    I’m liking this song, I gotta say.
    Is there going to be a new Idolatry with Brooke White? If so, I am pumped.

    This is a nice change from much of what’s heard on the radio today. Why not give it some air time? Go, Blake!

    I lived through the 80′s once already thank you very much. It’s one thing to “borrow” from another era it’s another thing to just rehash old crap. This song is a hot mess and not in a good way.
