VH1 fiiiiinally decided to heed our call and revive its Divas franchise. And today, they announced some of the divas that will be in the September show: Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, and Miley Cyrus. I hope they do a tribute performance like this:
Okay, I'm torn. On the one hand, I enthusiastically enjoy half this line up. On the other…are these artists really Diva level? Like, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Gloria, Aretha, Patti–caliber Diva? Hmm. That said, the Divas concerts have always included a combo of icons and current stars — musically speaking, Patti LaBelle is in a different category than Jessica Simpson or Ashanti, but they've all performed under the Diva banner.
And now, a few people on our wish list for the rest of the line up, and this is just spitballing without any attachment to logistics or reasoning, diva style: Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Dolly Parton, Barbra Streisand, Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera, Allison Krauss. And I would also like return performances from Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, and Mariah Carey.
Okay, PopWatchers, something tells me you're going to have some good suggestions on this. Who do you want to see on the 2009 Divas stage?
Absolutely, positively no Miley. She’s not talented.
Miley is not diva quality. Really, she’s not Disney Channel quality either but we have to deal with it with her because she has a famous daddy.

That’s the most ridiculous line-up of “divas” I have ever seen. None of those artists have proven to have the longevity or record sales of a diva. I’d like to see some women with more experience under their belts join the show – even Christina Aguilera qualifies as a diva more than the rest of them. At least she has a decade of pop stardom under her belt. Definitely would love to see Mariah and Whitney make an appearance, and a duet of Kelly Clarkson and Leone Lewis singing “A Moment Like This” would be cool since they’ve both recorded it.
First 3 ladies are great choices…but Miley stands out like a sore thumb. She’s gonna struggle in this.
Divas? Puh-Lease. The Diva’s are Aretha, Patti, Gladys, Whitney, Gloria, Barbara, Dolly, Mariah and Tina. Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys and Christina Aguilera, if they keep on their current path will one day join them as Divas’, as for the the rest of them…Get real!
Fantasia needs to be added to the lineup. She has incredible stage presence and can truly belt. Did no one else see her on the UNCF tribute to Patti Labelle and Aretha Franklin? Hello, VH1, pimp your newest addition to Celebreality and put Fantasia on the list. This show would blow up!
I dont understand why Gloria is allowed to be a “diva” and yet nobody has mentioned Madonna… if anybody is a “diva” its her… and uh how bout Annie Lennox too???

This is the 2009 edition of Divas: this is what is plastered on our airwaves. Just for the love of god: No GaGa.
I’d love to see: Pink or Lily Allen too. Mariah and Whitney might show up, depending how close this is slated to the release of their albums.
And if any of you think Madge would lower herself to this, keep on dreamin’ folks. She’s beyond this and America anymore. We’re beneath her.

Kelly, Kelly, Kelly! I can’t wait to see her perform. I would love to see Kelly sing so powerfully that her voice shatters petite “diva” Miley into little pieces.
