'Twilight': Meet Australian actor Xavier Samuel, cast as Riley in 'Eclipse'

Categories: Casting, Eclipse, News, Twilight

Xavier_Samuel_lDirector David Slade has cast his first new role in Eclipse, the third film in the Twilight series. Summit confirms that Australian actor Xavier Samuel has been tapped to play Riley, Victoria's favorite recruit in her army of newly-turned, strong-but-inept vampires built to aid her mission of murdering Bella. Unknown in the States, Samuel has costarred in the layered Aussie surfing film Newcastle. (Watch the trailer; he's dark-haired, Clash T-shirt wearing Fergus). Below, a clip from the movie in which Samuel enters at :46. After the jump, a shirtless scene. (What?) And a couple of trailers for another film called Further We Search.

What do you think of Samuel's casting? I buy him as a college student who would fall prey to Victoria…

I didn’t watch the clips (yet) but from the picture he is exactly how I pictured Riley.

  • Michelle

That guy is a dead ringer for how I pictured Riley in my head! Sweet!

  • Jennifer

    Exactly how I pictured him

Im diggin David Slade more & more, this is a wonderful choice for Riley, pretty much exactly how I pictured him, maybe just a bit blonder, but thats what hair and make up is for.
Im way too excited for New Moon & I think its gonna knock it outta the park, but now Im getting way to excited for Eclipse, please Summit, I cant take all this excitment, Im gonna explode!

He was also in this amazing Australian movie called September that also starred Mia Wasikowski, the new Alice in Wonderland.

  • Leslie

This is how I pictured Riley :],but a little blonder, but this will do.

  • Kalie

I can see him playing Riley. All they have to do is give him blonde hair. Another good casting choice.

  • Stella Hemloch

Excellent choice! Exactly how I pictured him too when I was reading Eclipse. I can’t wait for New Moon…but I really can’t wait for Eclipse – it was by far my favourite of the four.

You know what I find amazing? All the casting that’s been done so far just seems so spot on in terms of looks. They’ve all been exactly how I pictured them when reading. This is no exception.

  • Stranger Than Emily

I’m surprised no one said this (unless no one thinks this) but man is he HOT! Wow. Two hot guys in one movie. Can’t hardly wait! :D

I wouldn’t say ALL the casting has been spot on, although Edward’s part was accurately cast. But I honestly pictured Jacob looking a bit better, Mike having the spiky blond hair, Jessica, Eric, Mike and Bella looked a lot better than I would have imagined, Carlisle wasn’t as attractive as Stephenie Meyer had written him to be. I think Alice was probably the most off. Her counterpart has dark brown hair when it’s supposed to be black, and she doesn’t have the high ringing voice, laugh, and energetic personality that Alice is supposed to have. I’m not complaining about the cast, and I know this comment is super long considering what it’s about, but these are things I couldn’t help but notice during the movie (esp. Alice). Good cast, just some of the people don’t match their character’s descriptions the way they were written.

the only casting that throws me WAY off is rosalie…i mean the actress in real life has DARK hair. i hate that she’s not a natural blonde or closer to it. it looks very off. other than that, good casting.

In response to Stranger than family’s comment, I thought Alice was the most perfectly cast. Ashley Greene’s portrayal was spot on. And she does have black hair in New Moon, so you can blame the original hair color on the costume people. Casting for Rosalie was horrible. Not much we cna do about it now.

Look out for Xavier Samuel as a lead in an upcoming independent Australian feature called “Drowning”. Should be beautiful.
