The only DVD I own is Twilight. I don’t think any other movie is worth having. Like the books you need to have them all. So I am planning on buying all the movies of the saga.

I went into a store today to buy Watchmen. But when I saw the high price, I hesitated. And when I saw that the retailer called that high price a “sale price”, I felt insulted. BluRays need to be $15 to $20, tops, or it feels like a rip-off.

I love DVD’s & I’m a major movie buff. I have lot’s them, but the past year or 2 I have been more selective about which ones I buy new. Most of mine are used–much more cost-friendly. I’ll always buy certain movies new (i.e “Harry Potter,” “Twilight,” “The Dark Knight,” Wes Anderson movies). I did buy “The Rocker” without having seen it & was glad I did. But, even though I really want to see “Rachel Getting Married,” I think that will be a rental.
I’ve been a lot more selevtive about TV on DVD, as well. For example, I use to buy “That 70′s Show,” but the last few season weren’t great, so maybe I don’t need them. The last few box sets I bought: “True Blood,” Moonlight,” & “The Pretneder” (good, but not as good as I remember.)
Today, I bought the 2nd season of “House,” because after watching the past couple seasons on TV & the 1st season, which I got for super cheap on Black Friday, I’m addicted to that show.

I only buy films that I know I will watch over and over (or those that star my favorites, regardless of merit). Since the number of quality films has become increasingly smaller over the years, Netflix has become my saving grace. It’s an inexpensive way to catch up on TV shows I may have missed (or that aren’t avalaible on Hulu) and see movies that I would otherwise not waste my time/money on.

I will buy dvd sets of TV shows I love. I have all (available) seasons of SATC, 30 Rock, Mad Men and Weeds. But now that I have to buy the new seasons in blu-ray, it will be a while before I can do that.

I only buy movies I really love. Ones I can watch over and over again. Same with TV shows. And I usually wait to buy them until they are on sale. Like Across the Universe. I waited and bought it for 5 bucks.
Maybe companies need to stop backing Blu-Ray so much. I’m sure it looks nice, but it’s just way too expensive. $20 is considered a sale in Blu-Ray. No thank you. But, over the past year, I’ve seen a big increase in ads for Blu-Ray. Bad idea.

It’s gotta be something I know I’ll watch again and again. I had never bought a movie for myself, only for my kids, until we got a blu-ray last fall. Now I’ve bought The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Wall-e, The 5th Element and Pan’s Labrynth.
