Happy Birthday to you/
Happy Birthday to you/
Happy Birthday, dear Nigel/
Happy Birthday to yooooouuuuu!
Thank goodness Nigel is only 60 once! I don’t think any of us could cope with the partying twice! Nigel held his 60th birthday in Lake Las Vegas. It was a three-day extravaganza involving karaoke, golf, sunset cruises, gambling, dinner and dancing, and culminating in a giant conga line that included Mary, Adam, Mia, Wade, Tabitha, Napoleon, Tyce, and yours truly circling the lake at 2.30 in the morning! As I’ve said before, I can’t dance, but I do…. What I lack in talent I more than make up for in enthusiasm! The music played till morning, the champagne flowed continuously, and it’s fair to say a good time was had by all! Mr. Lythgoe certainly knows how to throw a great party!
And the good news doesn’t end there. The show has been nominated for five Emmys this week. Tyce, Mia, Wade, and our very own Dmitry are all up for the choreography award. I love the fact that a past dancer from the show has been on this incredible journey, from dancer, to choreographer, to Emmy nominee… dreams can come true! It just goes to show what an incredible platform and opportunity this show is for our dancers. The makeup team has also been nominated for an Emmy. They’re led by Amy Strozzi, who also does my makeup. She’s incredibly talented and passionate about the show, but more importantly she taught me how to properly use the Americanism “AWESOME”! Good luck to all!
Highlights this week for me: Travis’ routine for Jason and Jeanine- heartstoppingly beautiful! And bless him, he was sooooo nervous! It’s great to see past contestants come back to the show; it really does feel like a family. Ade’s solo:The back flip thoroughly deserved the standing ovation he received!
Evan and Kayla’s ballroom: Despite being vertically challenged and falling during rehearsals, the twosome performed brilliantly. Evan also brought in cookies from his grandma. I don’t think I’m exaggerating, but they were a little slice of heaven.
The results show was a showstopper!!!! The opening number was a Geisha piece by Wade and Amanda Robson set to a Janet Jackson track. Visually it was absolutely stunning, a work of art. Melissa was just beautiful as the Japanese queen, ethereal, graceful, and dominant!
The Black Eyed Peas raised the studio roof when they performed their No. 1 single. They’re one band who always looks like they’re having the best time — in a way you just can’t fake. They’ve been great supporters of the show since the very beginning and it was lovely having them back.
Then it was over to America. For the first time this season, the viewers were in complete control. The judges can no longer decide who stays and who goes, it’s all down to you!
We had to say goodbye to Kupono and Randi. I’ll always remember Kupono’s kindness and smile and I’ll continue to worship at his alter of fashion. Love his unique style! Randi was so self-deprecatingly funny and worked so hard, and let’s not forget her other asset, the one Mia Michaels created a dance around! I can’t wait to see them both on tour…
Don’t miss next week! Ellen is coming onto the judging panel, which should be hilarious! And Thursday is our 100th show, featuring some classic SYTYCD routines, appearances from star choreographers, and, of course, Katie Holmes pays homage to old-school Hollywood. Stop reading…and start setting your DVR!!!!!

i love u Cat!! I cannot read this blog without a huge smile on my face. and Congrats to the show for the Emmy nods, very well deserved for all
YOU deserved an Emmy nomination!
I love you, Cat. You’re a great host, so genuine and warm. But next blog, let’s get some behind the scenes juicyness!
Love you Cat, but I think you meant Tabitha and Napoleon instead of Wade in that list of this year’s Emmy nominations. Although I can’t blame you for the mistake–Wade has won the category for his SYTYCD dances twice before!
Cat, you absolutely deserve an Emmy nod yourself. I find it absolutely atrocious that you have not been recognized. Your humor, empathy, and style far outshine any who have been nominated before.
I also agree that Cat should be nominated for an award. She has a hard job …. telling the dancers they are the ones who are leaving. I agree she is always gracious.
Cat, you are so adorable and funny! I would like to hear more behind the scenes. Maybe like tell us more about what the dancers are like. Also, I wonder if there are any relationships blossoming between contestants. Because Jason and Jeanine were totally making out at the end of their number!!!! I want the lowdown lol
Cat, I think you are the best reality host on television and I was also disappointed that you did not get an Emmy nod. You show so much respect and love for the dancers. Love the kind words about Evan. He is my favorite SYTYCD dancer ever.
I just wanted to add my voice to the chorus who wish we could sing your praises into the Emmy recognition you deserve. Your love of the show and, more importantly, the dancers on it – shown both during the broadcasts and your interactions with them off-show – has been a huge part of what’s brought this dance family into the living rooms of so many people who otherwise wouldn’t know a Paso Doble from a Demi Plie (mine included). Though gotta say – that parody (… SHUT UP!) – HILARIOUS. Thank you for being such a devoted professional and enchanting guide for the show.
i think the show itself should be nominated for an emmy in the best reality competition category! sorry to see ade in the bottom four, but hopefully this near loss will get his fans speeddialing! check out my review here:

Love you Cat! I’d also like to chime in and say you (and the show) are very much deserving of Emmy nods. BUT I think you miswrote in your blog. Wade Robson isn’t nominated this year, Napoleon and Tabitha are!
It’s really astounding that this show, doesn’t receive nominations for best reality show (or host), while the vastly inferior American Idol does consistently. An outrage! I’m starting a campaign for next year’s Emmys now.
Oh Cat, since you brougt the subject…. You were totally robbed on the Emmys! You really should be nominated (and winner) of the reality host category!
Also SYTYCD should also be nominated for best reality!
Love youuu!!
xx
You were robbed, Cat!
You are a great host. from playandsearch.com
happy birthday to you, Cat
