Granted, an audience moments away from seeing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on opening night at New York City's Ziegfeld is slightly excitable, but I believe the new Sherlock Holmes trailer would've warranted applause on any evening. It's those final seconds and the realization that Jude Law, as Dr. Watson, is going to keep up with Robert Downey Jr.'s singular take on Holmes punch-for-punch…
The Guy Ritchie-directed movie, which hits theaters on Christmas Day, is on Daniel Radcliffe's Must List. Is it on yours?
More 'Sherlock Holmes':
Robert Downey Jr.'s 'Sherlock Holmes': Can't it be December already?
Sherlock Holmes way hotter here than in my highbrow literary fantasies

are my eyes deceiving me?! is this a relevant post by Mandi Bierly??? say it aint so!
Why bother with doing Sherlock Holmes if you are just gonna make him Action Holmes? Depressing, really.
After the obligatory family thing, we’re hitting the theatre on the evening of the 25th to catch this. Can’t wait!
Wow… is this Sherlock Holmes or freaking James Bond. Looks horrible.
Very disappointed because this was one movie I was looking forward to.

Hopefully it’s more leaning towards comedy and mystery instead of action. And more McAdams in the trailer please.
Heck yeah, it’s on my list! I’ll be going with my whole family after dinner on Christmas night, all 20 of us!
It looks like it’s going to be good, and a lot of fun. I want to be excited about it, but I can’t completely get on board. I love Robert Downey Jr., but he’s making Holmes a smart alec. When in the books, the character is a heroin addict. He’s supposed to be kinda somber and tortured. This just feels like Downey Jr. doing his usual witty shtick like in Iron Man.
I hate that they’re doing this to the character!
I’m holding out hope under the assumption that they cut the trailer to look more action-y to appeal to a broader base. Hopefully, the movie itself won’t feel so National Treasure: Piccadilly Explosion.
“Robert Downey Jr.’s singular take on Holmes…”
You mean aside from the fact that he’s playing House, which is based on Holmes, with a British accent and amidst some explosions.
I’m not really sure what to make of this. It might be one of those movies that’s good only if you pretend it is completely original and not in any way based on Sherlock Holmes. I’m going to hope it’s actually an interesting and entertaining adaptation. To be honest, I’m more excited about Steven Moffat’s modern take on Holmes than this.
Why was Guy Ritchie allowed to do this with Sherlock Holmes? At best, Ritchie is second rate Tarantino copycat, at worst, he’s just a hack. The preview kind of looks fun if you don’t consider it a S.H. movie.
Not only does this movie look stupid, I can guarantee that it will be stupid. Guy Ritchie sucks, just plain sucks.
still a little bit iffy on this one. what’s with all the slo-mo fighting scenes? it’s trying to be quirky, but it falls just short.
I was expecting a darker version of S.H. Let’s remember who he is, I drug addict who was also insomniac. He wasn’t “well” but that’s what makes him so good. For those who don’t know, “House” is loosely based on the Holmes character.
But what we get… a James Bond look-a-like

Wow I guess people feel really strongly about SH and they should but I knew this would be something different and action packed and was just hoping they wouldn’t make it too “stupid-blockbustery” and it looks like they didn’t. Not a Ritchie fan but this I will definitely see. They had me at Rachel McAdams.
It has RDJ in it. I am so there.
Sometimes you just have to let art flow over you. Saw this at the HP movie tonight and I. Am. So. There. Get unstuffed, people, and let’s have some FUN.
Jude Law is in it, So I’m there.
Love the ending of the trailer, Now I want to see this more than ever.
The more I see it, the more it seems Robert Downey makes a terribly miscast Holmes. And all the fight scenes…? Well, I guess it’s still better than a Jerry Bruckheimer/Michael Bay version of Sherlock Holmes, but not by much.
Jude Law? Hell yeah.
I”M THERE SHIFT KEY FROZEN
I think many folks are missing the point. This is an “adaptation” of Sherlock Holmes based on a graphic novel by Lionel Wigram. It is not a verbatim retelling of Conan Doyle’s stories. And if one pays close attention to those stories, some might be surprised to realize that Holmes was a man of action. He did not sit around solving mysteries from his armchair at 221B Baker Street. He traveled often, went undercover, chased down suspects, etc. There are references to him being a boxer and using the martial art of baritsu as well. So this “adaptation” of Holmes is really not far from how Conan Doyle portrays the character himself. All the naysayers are just purists who can’t accept any other interpretation than their own.
I’ve been excited about this movie since I first heard Robert Downey Jr was staring. His involvment is what prompted me to read the stories which I have enjoyed immensely. So I am greatly looking forward to this present on Christmas Day.
Fantastic, I can’t wait!!!
Oh yeah I’ll be there on Xmas day. Watching this for Jude Law. He’s already amazing in the trailer. I saw him do Hamlet. This dude ROCKS!
Not looking forward to it after that trailer. I like my Holmes more quirky like Jeremy Brett’s portrayal of him. He was the quintessential Sherlock Holmes. His take on him still had action, but not this blatant attempt at corny humor. Thumbs down.
I have been looking forward to this movie since I heard about RDJ and Jude Law starring in it. I will be there with my family and friends the 25th. for sure!!!
I will definately be there on the 25th.
I can’t wait to see this!
I’m excited for Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes Film. I think it’s going to open up like gang busters on Christmas Day. He is only getting better with directing Films. Here’s too yea Guy!
I really don’t get the degenerate look they have for Holmes and the need to turn this into Fight Club.
Based on the trailer, the name of the characters will be the only thing this movie will have in common with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s creation.
It appears to be a complete travesty.
