I can only echo what nearly everyone here said .. the film was indeed subpar with all of its vital omissions and weird additions (the Burrow going up in flames?) and changes (Harry just standing there watching Dumbledore be killed). What could they have been thinking? I can’t imagine, but I am extremely disappointed.

The only major problem I had with the movie was how the major fight scene at the end was totally skipped. Why did all of those death eaters have to get into the castle if all they were going to do was watch Dumbledore die? Besides that part, I was very impressed with the movie. I hope that the last battle isn’t skipped, too.

I love the books and the movies, but this particular adaptation left me, well, nonplussed. No Gaunts, no big time w/the pensieve, weak kiss moment, stuff in the movie that wasn’t even in the book, death eaters flying around NOT on brooms and not apparating, too much teen angst and snogging and too little of Harry becoming a man and learning the back story on Tom Riddle. WAY botched ending. Harry would NOT have just stood by and done nothing and then snape matter-of-factly saying he’s the HBP, like he was naming off a grocery list. Horrible. Don’t get me wrong: I actually liked the movie, but it paled in comparison to the book. It doesn’t help that HBP was my fave book of the series.

This was a terrible movie, even without the book. The acting was crap from most every actor in the movie, which probably wasn’t helped by Yates’ inability to direct with any competence. There was no suspense, in anyway, fashion or form. The fact that we knew exactly what Draco was up to before we got to the end, well, what was the point. For those people out there telling the Potter fans to take the movie for what it is… You are all ignorant! These aren’t your average books that just barely made the best sellers list any are being turned into movies. This is the highest selling series of all time, and we the readers made it so. Therefore, the movies should satisfy us first, since we out-number the non-readers by a great margin. Now, it isn’t as if the source material JK wrote needs to be changed to make a great film. Chris Columbus knew this and that’s why his are so well loved. Her novels had so many payoffs, you were rewarded for paying attention. Unfortunately, she seems to have sold out, or has no say due to the contract she signed with WB. Had CC continued directing the films, the actual story would be told and not this lame “Twilight-esque” teen drama. The fact that the magic has been left out of the movies and subplots have dominated the main plots, there is no hope for this series of films. One can only hope for someone with the passion PJ showed for LOTR decides to remake these films in the near future.

I thought that the whole point of this book was to set up the Horcrux story for the final book. Now, Harry has no idea what any of the other Horcruxes are. The story of the Horcruxes was also really interesting (especially the Gaunts). Also, I thought that the battle was one of my favorite parts in this book that they left out. Oh AND they forgot to include McGonagall being stunned AND Dumbledore’s funeral, one of the only parts in the series where Harry cries.

The movies irritate me SO much. I pretty much grew up reading Harry Potter. The Harry Potter books have always and still remain one of the biggest loves of my life. GREAT storytelling and something that I will remember and keep with my for the rest of my life. I hope they remake these movies years from now with people who remain LOYAL to the story and its characters. David Yates is not a storyteller. He is a crook and a murderer for what he did to Harry Potter. Emma Watson, although a lovely girl, never once embraced Hermione’s true essence. After putting up with 5 movies that left me near tears (of anger) I just stopped watching. I haven’t seen movie 6 or either of the last ones. When I found out that David Yates signed on for the remaining movies I wanted to tear my hair out. If I hadn’t read any of the books before watching the movies, I’m sure I would have loved the movies.
