My personal forecast for tomorrow morning: 25 percent chance of going for an early-morning run; 75 percent chance of consuming a bowl of Wheat Chex; 100 percent chance of freaking out when the Emmy nominations are announced on live TV around 8:40 a.m.We've already discussed our wish-list for nominees in five areas — Best Comedy; Lead Actor/Actress in a Comedy; Supporting Actor/Actress in a Comedy; Lead Actor/Actress in a Drama; and Supporting Actor/Actress in a Drama (see links below!) — and now we've got one more category to dish: Best Drama Series. I've got two longshots I'll be rooting for tomorrow:
Battlestar Galactica: Like Charlie Brown going trick-or-treating, every year I expect a nomination for BSG, and every year I get a rock. This year I want some damn candy for a groundbreaking sci-fi series that, even in its least successful moments, strived for greatness, and in its best ones actually achieved it.
Southland: NBC's limited-run midseason replacement may not have scored huge ratings — and it's getting unceremoniously dumped into a Friday-night slot next season — but its first-rate ensemble cast did such nuanced, beautiful work, and its unflinching look at the daily struggles of police work in Los Angeles was so much more affecting than any other cop show on TV, that (with apologies to my colleague Mandi Bierly) I can't help but root for Southland getting a surprise nod over such Emmy stalwarts as, say, Boston Legal.
Which drama series will you be rooting for when Emmy nominations drop tomorrow? Do share your picks — and your reasons why — in the comments section below. And remember, if your faves don't get any Emmy love, they could still qualify for an EWwy! Here are my picks:
Mad Men – Love the 1960’s setting!
BSG – It is so NOT SciFi!
Life – Loved the on-going backstory mystery with each case.
The Closer – Love the group dynamics of the squad
Lost – Can’t stop watching…I need to know how this is going to end!
Friday Night Lights! Awesome show that needs all the help it can get.
Like its two lead actors, “Friday Night Lights” should NOT be a longshot, but since it’s never been nominated in this category, I have to throw the name out there.
However, I would be thoroughly delighted if the Academy stopped pretending like “The Shield” existed after its buzzy first season and give it a best drama nomination for a stunningly-brilliant final season.
I vote for Breaking Bad, Mad Men, True Blood and, of course, LOST. Since I can’t think of any other 1-hr dramas for which I personally, compulsively, set my DVR, the last pick is up for grabs. I’ll give you BSG.
the usual crab will be nominated: Grey’s Anatonym, Lost, House. But hoping for:
Life on Mars (gone too soon)
The Closer
Dexter
Mad Men
NCIS (a procedual show with
worthy character interact
& development)
24 (still kick butt action &
drama)
Lost and FNL.
Lost and FNL.
Like I said, I’m still hoping for a “Return of the King” moment for BSG. “Haha folks, we know it’s awesome, we were just waiting for the end so we could celebrate its awesomosity.”
Friday Night Lights! This show is one of the best dramas on television. The acting, the directing, the writing-or improvising. All top notch, and it’s a shame it has never been recognized.
Also, Breaking Bad. This season was incredible.
LOST
FNL, Lost, Dexter… Thats all I wanna see on that list… and unless those 3 win in a tie, I wont be happy
FNL, Lost and Dexter. If they dont win in a 3 way tie, ill still be pissed
1) BSG
2) Lost
3) Breaking Bad
4) Friday Night Lights
Period. End of story.
Dexter
NOT House
True Blood
Would love to see Southland
24 (Great past season)

24 & True Blood
Damages.
1) Battlestar Galactica
2) Mad Men
3) Lost
4) True Blood
5) Gossip Girl
Damages – Great ensemble of actors, complex characters, intriguing plot, brilliant method of storytelling…
I’m starting to think el Slezak is a fan of that Southland show…
I only concern myself with BSG and Southland. The others, well, let the Gods have them. So Say We All!
Here’s my dream list:
1 – Lost
2 – Dexter
3 – Battlestar Galactica
4 – Damages
5 – Boston Legal
BSG
The Shield
Mad Men
Breaking Bad
FNL
I’ve gone mad for In Treatment! Gabriel Byrne is amazing.
Mad Men
In Treatment
Breaking Bad
FNL
Battlestar Galactica
Southland was pretty good. But wasn’t it only like 6 episodes?
BSG deserves some acting nods. But the finale was so lazy, it should be disqualified from Best Drama contention.
LOST. as long as they’re nominated, i’ll be a happy camper
No BSG. The final season was a big old letdown.
The dramas that deserve the nods are…
Big Love
Lost
Mad Men
NCIS
The Shield
Or can we go back in time and posthumously nominate The Wire? Can we just nominate The Wire every year?
Supernatural!!!
LOST
Dexter
Battlestar Galactica
True Blood
Medium
Gossip Girl
Wish List:
Mad Men
Lost
Damages
TrueBlood
Dexter
