'Twilight Saga: New Moon': Let's see the Volturi already!

Categories: New Moon, Twilight, Waiting

Christopher-Heyerdahl_l Just reading this Sci Fi Wire interview with Christopher Heyerdahl, who'll play Volturi member Marcus in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and I realized my patience for seeing an official image of that coven is wearing increasingly thin. "Everyone looks gorgeous and deliciously lifeless," Heyerdahl says. Release the Volturi tease now, Summit! (Or, at least at Comic-Con.)

As for Heyerdahl (Supernatural, SanctuaryStargate: Atlantis), I like where his head is at for his role:

"Here's how I approach him. When Marcus is brought in, he's there against his will. He and his love tried to leave an awfully long time ago. Through a series of tragic circumstances, the love of his life was killed, and he's now being forced to stay and use his powers for the betterment of the Volturi. He's not exactly there, waking up and looking forward to eternity. When Edward and Bella come walking in, his ability to sense the power of their connection is something that wakes him up, brings him back from the boredom of that eternal life and sparks something in him that brings Marcus as close to excitement as he can get. That idea has to be contained and expressed as little as possible to his rather power-hungry captain-in-arms, Aro, which makes for a rather interesting conflict. You might not know it, but Marcus is pretty darn excited by this love that he witnesses. At the same time, it causes him great pain with the memory of what he had and lost. It was very complex to play, especially when you are doing it with so few lines. It will be interesting to see how it is cut together."

What do you think of Heyedahl's take? And more importantly, are you ready to see an official Volturi image already?

what i am ready for is for twilight to go away

  • Katie

I’m ready for EW to get over its juvenile Twilight fixation.
You see one Italian mafia vampire, you’ve seen ‘em all. Just picture the actors in a coma with a little makeup on, and you’re there.

  • whyamIhere

Wow, the twilight haters are the first to post! And why do you read about something you don’t like-are you masochistic? I don’t read about American Idol-never watched it. So if you don’t like it and don’t read it or watch the movie, then why would you come here? But, I agree with Mandi, lets see something we haven’t seen yet-bring on the evil!

    • Jennifer

Personally not a Twilight hater….more a feeling of indiference. Regardless, I understand the above. When EW reports excessively on Twilight, they therefore do not report on other items. I think the EW coverage is excessive and would like to see some more variety.

Also why do you all want soooo many spoilers?

  • Carrie

It’s a shame that some sour people have to rain on everyone else’s parade. If you’re not interested in “Twilight”, why click on an article about the upcoming movie? I avoid things I don’t like…Anyway, I really like Heyerdahl’s take on the character. It shows that he did his research because all of that stuff about Marcus isn’t in the books. He’s a very talented actor and I’m glad they gave him the role. I’m also waiting for an image of the Volturi. Why is it taking so long? Filming is over. We got to see an official image of the wolf pack, which was fine. Now, I’d like to see what the Volturi look like.

I agree completely with the other comments. Please EW, stop giving this heap of crap franchise all this attention. Those WAY too many covers might have sold – but trust me, those are not your regular subscribers/readers.

  • kristie

when I read these crap books, I really did not get all that about Marcus. I mean, reading what this guy has to say about the character is amazing. How did he get all that from reading those crap books???

  • PeterBilt The Nature Boy

Its just overkill. i understand liking something and then a hater(like myself in this instance) comes along and wishes it would go away. But seriously EW, lets try and give something else its due for once. Oh and quit sweatin Amy Adams too!!!!!

  • Silv

I add my 2 cents’ worth to the haters – if you don’t want to read about it, don’t – and why then do you waste your time posting?
Mandi, I’m with you – and I like Heyerdahl’s take on this too. New Moon can’t get here soon enough!

  • jess20

Ok I totally agree with Carrie! If people don’t like Twilight, then stop talking about it for a change and pick up some new hobbies. I can’t stand those who only want to put down the interests of others instead of finding some of their own!

  • jess20

Ok I totally agree with Carrie! I don’t know why people who don’t like Twilight keep bashing it. If you don’t like it stop talking about it already! I don’t understand why some people insist on putting the interests of others down instead of finding some of their own.

  • Jane

I have to give the guy credit for attempting to flesh out a character that is, like most secondary characters (and a few primary characters), window dressing. At this point, I’d rather see few more CGI-type clips so I can feel better about that awful wolf animation. Like someone else said, the Volturi probably aren’t much to look at, just the actors in pale makeup and contacts.

  • PeterBilt The Nature Boy

Hey, lets make one thing clear….PeterBilt looooves everyone. So like what you wanna like ladies and dudes.

  • Emily O.

I’m impressed by his thoroughness in researching his character. An interesting take on it and should be awesome.

  • Kirsten

I love that Christopher is thinking about the complexities of his character. This makes me even more excited to see the Volturi onscreen. I love that even actors who play secondary characters are taking their roles seriously. It’ll make for a more well-rounded film.
I’m crossing my fingers for New Moon!

  • Brooke

Don’t sweat the haters, my fellow Twilighters.
Every franchise has haters, its just that, since EW writes A LOT of articles about Twilight, the Twi-haters have more of an opportunity to whine and complain.
Anyways, I’m beyond excited to see a Volturi promo pic!

  • Karen

He was great in Supernatural… very scary and creepy. :) Good choice in casting.

  • sara

wow, I can’t believe this article is already at the top of the “reader favorites” list. Just shows that we’re all dying to get some New Moon news. I agree with all of you in that I love Christopher’s take on Marcus, and I can’t wait to see a picture of the Volturi!

  • Megan

who the hell cares about twilight? Harry potter is waaaaaaaaay better, and robert p. is UGLY!! plus, he sprays his muscles on. Anyways, marcus was the best vultori, and he will be played well but new moon will still suck compared to harry potter

  • Kyle

Twilight lovers, please understand prior to reading this that this is MY opinion. If you feel differently, that is your right, but in the meantime, I feel that this is the best place to post this.
One major problem of the Twilight series that I share with many others is that the plot and characterization are minimal in this series. Even Bella and Edward are cardboard cutouts, blank slates whose only hint of characterization is their apparent infatuation with one another. If there is no hope for these two, then the smaller characters, such as Marcus, are just seat-fillers, observers who have little bearing on the tale.
The fact that Heyerdahl (who I’m a fan of, and I hope he has a great career) managed to extract this much from such a small role is amazing. But Meyer’s plot is so thin. If Marcus had, say, betrayed the Volturi and switched sides in Breaking Dawn or something like that, maybe things would be more fascinating. My girlfriend begged me to read them.

  • Kyle

    Sorry, ran out of space.
Anyways, the fact that the books are all over 400 pages and are filled with pointless information (Bella goes to a movie in New Moon? REALLY? That couldn’t be edited out?) is a major complaint of mine. Plus the fact that the books rely on wish-fulfillment and the second book romanticizes suicide. And Bella is a total Mary Sue.
If you want to read this, fine, if that’s what you want. But read other lit once in a while, and quit acting as though this series is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

  • Grudgingly Obsessed

Kyle – I completely agree with everything you said. Yet I found myself devouring the four books and googling more info on the series & movie after I finished reading. Very strange. I can’t imagine my husband, who loves watching rom-coms with me, having the patience to endure all the Twilight books, though. You are a good boyfriend!

  • annie

Whoa! Alistair from Supernatural is playing Marcus?! I can’t believe I’m just finding out now. LOL. Heyerdahl can definetly do creepy…

  • LaLoLa

I learned more about Marcus from this actor than when reading the Twilight series. sigh.

  • Kirsten

I have a B.A. in English literature, and I love the Twilight saga. I think that both Edward and Bella are fascinating characters. Edward, even before he met Bella, suppressed his natural instincts in order to be a good person. Even though the circumstances of his existence are beyond his control, he CHOOSES to not be a monster.
To me, the Twilight series is a beautiful story about an epic, eternal, unconditional love. It’s a story about sacrifice: about following your heart and giving up an easy option.
Also, it’s about the different kinds of love; some kinds of love are tame and controlled…whereas other kinds of love are unable to be constrained by the rules of society.
In addition, in my opinion, Bella IS a strong character who struggles to hold it together, even after she loses the love of her life, for the sake of her family and friends.
Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion. This is mine.
I love this series, and I can’t wait for this film.

  • Krystle

Kyle – When’s your book coming out? Stop knocking a series millions of people enjoy. If you don’t like it, which is apparent, don’t read it and more importantly stop reading articles related to Twilight. You’re obviously intrigued by the series enough to keep up with the latest news.

  • Andrea

    I totally agree, Krystle.
I think that the problem (right now) is that HP is coming out soon (tonight, LOL) and because of that, certain pretentious HP fans feel the need to bash Twilight, because of the number of articles written about it. I’ve been noticing that over the past few days. To be clear, I’m not in any way saying that ALL HP fans are like that (I’m an HP fan myself).

  • Brittany

I think that this is a wonderful interview. It’s clear that Christopher has really thought about how he wants to interpret his character. I’m looking forward to his portrayal of Marcus.

  • Abbey

i cant wait to see them! i wonder if they will be as delicate and dusty looking as i imagined.

  • Abbey

i cant wait to see the Volturi! i wonder if the will be as delicate and dusty looking as i remember!

  • Emma

It’s really, really sad when the actor playing Marcus gives the character more thought and personality than the author who originally created him.
