'Harry Potter': Your favorite Daniel Radcliffe talk show appearance?

The only thing bad about Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opening Wednesday is that Daniel Radcliffe won’t have a reason to hit the talk show circuit. I resisted him for as long as I could, then yesterday, binged on the following clips online. Which TV talk show appearance has been your favorite? (If I missed one, link me!)

NBC’s Today: The reason this clip got embedded is because Daniel is at his most handsome in this purple button-down shirt — and because the Today set and wand graphic/sound effect kill me. Also, he gets so excited talking about his ping pong skills and how he cheats at Monopoly.

Live with Regis and Kelly: Oh, Reege, only you could get away with a question like, “So where does this film take place? What’s going on?” But, at least he makes up for it with the brilliant, “What kind of woman fascinates you at this age?” Daniel says he’s looking for someone who’s funny, intelligent, and slightly mad and eccentric. Of course, when he mentions that the media has made much of his interest in older women, Kelly leans in to ask “How old?” (Daniel says, “I should be so lucky, Kelly.” So smooth.) Turns out Dan’s open to Helen Mirren, who, naturally, Regis confuses with Halle Berry (???).

CBS’ Late Show With David Letterman: Don’t you love someone even more the second after they make David Letterman laugh? Here, Daniel scores by revealing that he’s not exactly Mr. Clean in his bachelor pad, ergo he’s asked for a hand-held vacuum cleaner for his upcoming birthday. (Letterman gifts him a Dust Buster.) He also proves his comedic timing by answering “No,” when Dave asks him if he’s college-minded, like Emma Watson. (Click here for the full appearance.)

MTV’s It’s On with Alexa Chung: It’s trivia time! If Dan had a magical wand, he would use it for something selfish, like to make himself a “brilliant driver of really fast cars” because he doesn’t have a license. He did no manscaping for Equus. His ideal date would be a cricket match. Though people would like to hear that he’s spent his Potter paychecks on “cars or heroin,” he opted for artwork. He’s notoriously thrifty. Part 2 shows just what a good sport he is, as he puts on various spectacles and other accessories to become Kanye West Potter, Michael Phelps Potter, Sarah Palin Potter, Porn Star Potter (he does look good in a mustache) and Lauren Conrad Potter. This exchange is, quite possibly, the sexiest thing I’ve ever heard:

Daniel: Who’s that?

Alexa: That’s Lauren Conrad.

Daniel: Again, who’s that?

CBS’ The Early Show: The most serious interview of the press tour. Maggie Rodriguez asks him if a guy his age, 19, even thinks about marriage and children. “I’m really excited about the idea of having kids. I’m not gonna do it for a while,” he says, “but it’s been interesting for me because a lot of people on the Potter set have had kids recently, and to see the difference it’s made in their lives. They are so much more tired than they were before, but they’re a lot happier. The joy in these people. They have been changed in a kind of amazing way. And also I do love kids. I think kids are so much cooler than adults to talk to ’cause they’re just honest and they don’t care what they say, and I find it hilariously funny.” You’ve all read about his interview with a terrified 11-year-old reporter from Scholastic News at Half-Blood Prince’s New York premiere, right? Adorable. (Thanks to PopWatcher Cassie Wentlandt from Madison, WI, for making sure I saw it.)

Now, time to vote. Which of Daniel’s Half-Blood Prince appearances has been your favorite? And again, write-ins (with links!) are welcome.

He is just adorable. A bit manic. But still adorable

Hands down, Alexa Chung. It was insightful and FUN. Daniel Radcliffe in Kanye West sunglasses? How can you top that?

  • LisaMama

I love that he was slightly amused and befuddled at the Today show wand graphics and sound effects — taking it all in stride but clearly realizing how ridiculous they were, just like the audience. Love him, and Emma and Rupert. All different, but all great in their own way.

My favorite by far is his appearnace on Live at the Actor’s Studio:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoxQnqrZSRM
See “not down the mine” at about 2:40 and 5:15
And Napoleon starting at about 6:40
    Napoleon Napolean, LOL.

I loved the Today show appearance! When he starts talking about how they had to force clothes on him to film the movies, I just die laughing…

  • salon

I think it’s a tie between Letterman and the Today show. I have a feeling Meredith Viera was a bit smitten with him by the end of that interview, but the way he laughed at the “come to Jesus meeting” remark was just so infectious. And I agree, his reaction to the wand sound effects was priceless.
I also loved how on his appearance on Letterman the way he off-handedly mentions to Dave that he keeps an English tutor on hand, “just to teach me the language” which got another Dave guffaw. His appearances on Conan O’Brien are the best, though.

  • Jennifer

His interview with a Daily 10 correspondent was pretty funny too, he is awesome!

  • Lulu

I agree with Salon, the Conan interviews are the best! He sounds smart, adorable, interesting…talking how he wanted a car just like Hunter Thompson in Fear and Loathing was great, Conan was really impressed by him…

  • Ailene

Loved the Alexa Chung one for being so weird and funny, but the serious tone of tge CBS one was good too. I love seeing Dan in any kind of interview.

  • poetsrockinapoeticway

I think it’s charming he wants kids. It is a good idea (smart) to wait..maybe a little bit of poetry on the matter, Dan..P.S. You are someone I cannot really say anything about…I have only just started getting to “know” you..which is to my benefit I assure you. Have a lovely day.

You didn’t even include his Inside the Actor’s Studio with James Lipton? Are you crazy?

  • Sir Andrew

    Today show. Definitely.

  • Diane Mikulovsky

The Actor’s Studio is my very favorite!

  • Winona

A tie between Today Show and Letterman for me – and who the heck is Alexa Chung, nevermind Lauren Conrad!

  • LauraBC

I loved the Alexa Chung one solely for the hilarious get-ups. Dave because he gave him a dustbuster and the Today show with Meredith.

  • Sarah

Definitely with Alexa Chung, the costumes were hilarious

  • Michelle

my favorite is the actors studio one though

Dan (and Rupert) on the Australian show Rove. Take a look, Dan is so funny and cute!

  • piterD

Yep, spelled wrong. If they watch the comments then it’ll probably get fixed now that it’s been pointed out. Something about those two pictures together tickles me. http://piterdorf.mynewblog.com

  • Addie

Neither of these are from this film, but I always loved the Live! With Regis and Kelly from the second film where Regis wished him a Happy Thanksgiving (which I found funny because Dan is British) and the Conan where NBC had just merged with Universal and Conan had had a lever installed on the side of his desk so that anytime he pulled it, clips of Walker, Texas Ranger would show. Dan, no more than 13, timidly asked at the end of the show if he could pull it.

  • Jessica S.

Best Radcliffe interview? “Inside the Actor’s Studio”. He was funny, charming, self-deprecating, kind, informative, and a joy to listen to. If only all young actors were as well-spoken and witty as he is. His stuff with Conan is usually great, too.

  • shdrew

I love this Today show clip (yes, purple is DEFINITELY a good color on him and his hair look awesome). But I’m with Jessica – my favorite interview this year with Dan Radcliffe was the Inside the Actors Studio show he did. He was incredibly interesting, funny, and gracious, and Equus looked like a really awesome play. Made me wish I could have afforded the ticket and plane ride to see it!

  • Kiki

Out of this round of interviews, I would pick Alexa Chung’s, followed by the Today Show – that laugh at Meredith’s comment was priceless. Rove, parts 1 and 2 were great also. But his best? Inside the Actors Studio…and Ellen, for the tongue work and her quip afterward. Dan is the best!

  • KVL

Can I please interview his parents? I would love to raise my kids to be this impressive. The Scholastic News interview, seriously?

  • summer

Alexa’s interviews, easy. What a fantastic idea to have him try on wigs and different eyeglasses- truly brilliant and Dan was such a sport. Loved that little dance move he does. Second would be the Meredith Viera interview- he was absolutely a doll there. Too bad he couldn’t be on Conan again this round.

  • Sara

I vote for Alexa’s interview, because it has one of the most brilliantly witty lines ever, thanks to his quick sense of humor.
Dan dressed as Palin Potter: “I can see Hogwarts from my house!”.
But all of them have hilarious moments, not only the tv ones, I’ve read a few interviews in magazines and papers in the last weeks and they are all great to read.

  • Patrick

I won’t vote because something I really missed during this promotion was an appearance on Conan O’Brian’s show. His interviews with Conan are always a classic.
Hope the timing is good for the next film promotion and he can make it.
And you all have to watch Half Blood Prince. His scene with the lucky potion is HILARIOUS, Radcliffe stole the complete movie with that scene.

  • allen yill

French media has just released a headline ‘Emma Watson Photo Scandal’ and it’s not from London. They’re safe and censored http://ow.ly/hwJG

  • Darlene

I vote for the Today Show, he does look great in the shirt, but it was something about his demeanor. He was so comfortable with Meredith, she did a fantastic job! Second would be Alexa Chung especially for the goofy disguises.
