Andy Rooney's '60 Minutes' piece yields key question: What is your favorite fruit?!

Andy Rooney fixed his sights last night on an issue plaguing our nation, one that haunts us and confuses us each and every day: What is the deal with fruit?

"I think we would eat more fruit if we knew it was going to be any good when we bought it," Rooney says because total confusion is definitely the reason American diets are so effed. There are lots of serious issues about fruit, starting with OMG WTF is a papaya?!, and including the baffling concept that people work at grocery stores. "How'd you like to have the job of stacking fruit in a fruit store?" he chuckles. Also on Rooney's radar: Lemons are "one of the great fruits," melons are the money-sucking con-artists of the produce aisle, and green apples get DQ'd from the great fruit debate on account of being green!

Eight million people watched 60 Minutes last night, PopWatchers. We could marvel at that fact alone, but instead, we choose to spin this story forward in the comments section by asking you: What is your favorite fruit?

I didn’t watch the 60 Minutes episode and don’t have a favorite fruit, but I wanted to recommend a fresh fruit that I just tried for the first time recently. It is the black apricot. It looked and tasted more like a plum, but I thought it was great–especially if you have a sweet tooth.

Raspberries are my favorite. Second would be green apples.

    Erm… I like pineapples.

For the record, any fruit that isn’t a Go-gurt flavor should be banned from this discussion. That should take you down a couple pegs, starfruit.

    Blueberries – the super antioxidant!

    Clementine oranges. De-lish!

More like, “what is the deal with Andy Rooney’s eyebrows.” (I realize that’s not an original thought, but yikes!)
Anyway, my favorite fruit is avocado. It’s delicious in a salad, but I personally love a slice with rice and beans. (Could I BE any more Puertorican right now?)

Oranges. But not just any oranges. Fresh oranges eaten in an orange-growing state/country. Also strawberries, picked off the plant and popped in my mouth on a hot day at the end of June. And juicy peaches. And really good cantaloupe or honeydew.

  • Watermelon

nothing like it on a hot day, the original one with black pits, juicy, sweet ripe omg i am drooling just typing this…..and the new seedless ones just can’t compete, stop producing them already

    Bananas and pineapple, equally.

Ok Rooney has to retire right now. I mean, fruit?!? He has a problem with fruit? and what is a papaya? Next he’ll be complaining about this new fangled color TV and and asking where the vacuum tubes for his computer are.
Btw, I’m also for watermelon, old-style. Nothing better than finding a farmer’s stand by the side of the road.

I love all fruit. If I had to pick one to eat everyday for the rest of my life it would probably be pineapple.

My favorite Andy Rooney was when he complained that basketball players are too tall. It’s right up there with the time he complained about having too many papers in his office. Or when he complained that the end credits of movies are too long.

I place a vote for the humble mango!
