As reality shows go, Style Network's Clean House is as predictable as they come: Family home needs a makeover? Family home gets a makeover! But I mean no disrespect to the delightful host Niecy Nash and her funky faction of fixer-uppers. They make this show a consummate must-see for my family - thanks, in no small part, to their extraordinary ability to collect hundreds of dollars by selling rummage like used air purifiers and antique auto parts. For the uninitiated, part of Clean House's conceit is to hold a yard sale to help pay for the makeover of an astonishingly cluttered house - so when I saw about 857 signs in my Los Angeles neighborhood advertising the next Clean House clearance today, I about lost my mind. You mean I get a chance to dicker down the price of the lampshade with the show's adorable builder-man, Matt Iseman? Where do I sign up?
Unfortunately, I wasn't alone. About 250 other House hunters showed up at the exact time when the producers needed us to cheer for the official start of the sale. The harsh California sun made shopping miserable, but that didn't stop a huge group of women from gathering around Iseman to get a price check and a chance to preen for the camera. I was satisfied browsing the bric-a-brac section – my, aren't these mirror-ball ornaments precious? And who couldn't use another gold sequined clutch? – when Ms. Nash graced us with her presence while wearing a snug and strapless dress with big hoop earrings. Gee she's petite! And those gorgeous lips! Woman, Fox did you wrong by canceling your comedy Do Not Disturb after, like, two seconds last season. Sadly, the audacious host came and went almost as quickly as the antique etched mirror I'd been eyeing, but the crowd didn't seem to notice. Iseman was now posing for fan pictures and giving autographs, while his less popular co-designer, Mark Brunetz, was negotiating the price (of a coffee table? a Shabby Chic desk? A wall-mounted pinball machine?) with some grade school girl.
After about an hour, I left with two scarves, a couple of hats, a faux lava lamp, and a tiny container of glass beads for a grand total of $11 (an autographed receipt from co-designer Trish Suhr came free of charge). Overall, the inventory wasn't that much better than what I could have snagged at the five other garage sales around my neighborhod, but then again, those sales weren't scheduled to air on TV three months from now. So what do you think about Clean House? Is Niecy Nash your favorite host? And do you really believe all those houses on the show are as cluttered as they seem?

I love Clean House, I think it’s a fun show to watch when nothing is on, makes me feel better about my own home.
I use to watch Clean Sweep until it went off the air and THEN I started watching Clean House when I found it. Sometimes it bugs me that people get a makeover because they lived like pigs and were triflent. But I do love me some Niecy Nash. The Messiest Home in America episodes are amazing.
I love Clean House! My butt seems to adhere to the surface of a chair when it comes on. Trish Suhr is my favorite! She is funny and just darling.
I think it’s sweet when Niecy sits the people down and helps them work through the attachments they have to items that were their parents or other loved ones who are gone. She helps them realize that sometimes you just have to let go. She’s awesome.
Love the show hate Niecy’s voice.
I also love Clean House! The Messiest Homes in America episodes both fascinate and disgust me – there’s a difference between living in clutter, and living in squalor.
I love this show and Niecy is the best part of it. I love the entire team and I hope that they stay together–it just wasn’t the same without Niecy when she was filming her other show.
I love this show! Is Matt just as adorable in person as he is on tv? Nice to see this show on Pop Watch
I just got hooked on this show and I’m DVRing it. I end up watching two or three a day. The messiest homes episodes were a little much. I think a lot of the people have just let things get out of hand. Others, I think, really have a problem with compulsive shopping and they sadden me a little.
Anyway, I love the show. Now…. get to gettin’. I’m going in!
I’ve been watching this show since they had the guy who moved on to Extreme Makeover as the designer. I miss the blond guy garage sale expert.
LOVE NIECY!!! She’s so funny, as well as Matt, Trish, and Mark as well. I feel Mark gets criticized but come on! He has two days to fix up the house! He does a good job for the budget and the timespan right? I’m so sad I don’t get style network anymore and I seriously am still missing Clean House
.
i love clean house. some of the participants need a swift kick where the sun doesn’t shine. they’re just so ungrateful sometimes.
I love Clean House – its a guilty pleasure! And yes I am sure the houses get that dirty & more. I hope Niecy stays with the show for a long time.
really like the show but it seems like some of the people are very ungreatful and rude as on messes no.3 she was rude
It’s a great show. Good to see it finally getting some attention.
I was at the yard sale too! Matt and Trish are the kindest!
I’ve been hooked on this show for 4 years now, and it is so much better than Clean Sweep! Niecy, Mark, Matt and Trish have great chemistry and heart–best lineup the show has ever had. Yes, I believe the houses look like that–I go into houses for a living and at least thirty% of them could go directly to Clean House and noone would be fluffing that clutter to make it look photogenically worse! I’ve been in one house that could be Messiest #4 in a heartbeat, complete with the vermin.
$11 for that haul was a deal! Careful with the yardsales–you don’t want to end up on CH!
I do miss Alan–he was a doll, but I wouldn’t trade him for this crew!
I was a cameraman/ Director of Photography on the show for 4 years. Matt, Mark, Trish and Neicey are wonderful folks with the best intentions. They really try to make the best of every situation. Lots of love.
I do think the homes are that cluttered but they don’t seem that dirty. Just watch an episode or two of How Clean is Your House on BBC America. Those people have caked on grime that you can tell has been there for 5 years in addition to all the crap strewn around. People definitely have hoarding issues.
I love the show the team and what it stands for – clean house. I just discovered the show this year. Nicey is my favourite, I love her rapour wth the home owners. Truely amazing what she does. I am glad that Clean House helps people on the show but I am sure influences viewers who may be approaching this stage or at this stage. Keep up the good work!
clean house is the best when i come from school i put it strate on clean house niecy and your team i love your’ll i love you clean house
clean house is the best televion station ever i love niecy all by now i am wating clean house
How can I find a Clean House yard sale near me? Please help! I’m a yard-sale-aholic, going out every Saturday morning to any and every local one I can find. But I know that none of them compare to the usual Clean House yard sales. I’ve been reading that the show may be in between taping seasons, but I would appreciate any information or help that you can provide! Thank you!
Did you ever get an answer as to how and when to know when a Clean Sweep/House yard sale is being held? If so please let me know.
I really like the show I am in need of a make over on a house somebody gave me
