For the past few months, it seems as if gossip blogger Perez Hilton was involved in a new controversy every week, from his public debate over gay marriage with former Miss California Carrie Prejean to his recent altercation with Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am in Toronto. Hilton, though, is determined to continue building his brand, with a new site and his own music imprint on Warner Bros. set to debut by the end of summer. “Whether you like me or not, I’m not going away anytime soon,” says the 31 year old. “And I don’t care if you like me, I just care if you read my website.” EW sat down with Hilton in his L.A. condo, filled with fan portraits of Hilton, for a revealing interview.
On his friendship Lady Gaga: “I consider her more than a dear friend. I consider her my wife, my sister, my daughter. I‘m so thankful for her success and I feel like I’m succeeding because she’s succeeding. It’s that close of a bond. I saw the potential in her from the very beginning before anyone else.”
On why he’s good for gay America: “I think I am just by the sheer fact of my existence. I know that I personally would have loved to have me around when I was a gay teenager. Because when I was a gay teenager there weren’t that many openly gay celebrities. And I would have loved to have been like, ‘Wow look at that dude. He’s gay. He’s REALLY gay. And he’s successful and he’s not apologizing for that and he seems really happy.’ So I hope that though they may not agree with everything I say that I inspire gay youth to be themselves and to say what they think and to be proud of who they are.”
On the Funny or Die spoof, featuring Breckin Meyer and Zac Efron, of his tearful post-will.i.am encounter video post: “It was funny, but at the same time it was making fun of a violent attack. I wasn’t hurt but I was surprised because I’ve been nothing but glowing about Zac Efron. Maybe I was hurt a little, yeah.”

I’m a little disappointed in you guys. That Michael Jackson thing was terrible. That Black Eyed Peas thing was terrible. I was so happy when GLAAD called him out, and The Matthew Shepard Foundation refused his money. Perez Hilton = scum of the earth.
Perez is completely delusional. He’s not inspirational, nor does he seem “successful” or “happy”. And he’s certainly not a real celebrity. And to top it off, he is in no way good for gay America, and that group is leaving him behind. The Will.i.am incident was shameful and his response and attempted justification ridiculous. After all he says about people, he needs to own his words, not cry like a baby and act all self-righteous. Why are you even interviewing this filth?
Yeah. As a teen looking for role models as he struggled with being gay, a self-loathing, bitchy famewhore would have been the last person I would have looked up to.
world class loser. sexual orientation has nothing to do with that…
If you want to make a difference goto http://www.boycottperez.com and you can find out how to make him lose his sponsors and stop him being on the Kids Choice Awards!! This man is a disgrace and he should go away, it up to us to make that happen. Boycott his site and anything that has anything to do with him!
I like the Meyer-Efron spoff and I agree with KM, I love when gay rights organizations call out Hilton and his crap, so Hilton really isn’t good for gay America, he’s like the Fred Phrlps of gay America, the ass nobody likes who everyone disowns and still thinks it OK to act the way he does and think his opinion matters.
Gay role model? I don’t think so. His claim to fame is putting up a gossip sight that steals 98% of it’s material from other sites (and the rest is material based on his latest obsession of the moment). His ‘originality” is writing and drawing things on the pics he steals. Is he successful? I guess, but he isn’t liked, he isn’t respected, and he isn’t anyone to look up to.
As a member of the LGBT community, I would disagree that he is a good for the us.
I think he is an embarrassment to the gay community. He acts like a spoiled brat.
I think somebody spends too much time locked in their house thinking how incredible they are.
I found him amusing when he used to give his opinions on celebrities, but now it’s too often how he factors into the lives of celebrities – and worse; stories on just him. And his dog! Why would I care about Perez’s dog?
Lady GaGa is so lucky to have him. Without Perez she would just have catchy songs and crazy outfits … and lots of hits.
I love that he can’t believe Zac would so anything to slight him when he has spent years trying to out Zac and abusing his girlfriend every insult under the sun.
Wake up to yourself Pez Despenser.
So, he was shocked that Zac Efron was mean to him? Seriously, he can’t treat celebrities the way he does and expect ANY of them to like him. Don’t dish it out if you can’t take it, jerk.
Also, this: “And I don’t care if you like me, I just care if you read my website.” The message is clear: STOP READING HIM!!! It’s the only way to get rid of him.
Although I am a gay male and happy with the steps that have been made with regards to gay acceptance in the last few years. I must say I am disgusted that Entertainment Weekly would consider an article with regards to Perez Hilton. You are highlighting the worst example of gay to the world. I for one will not buy this issue and I implore everyone to consider not buying this issue.
Perez Hilton is a disgrace to all communities, not just the gay one. He has no shame. He has no morals. He thinks he can say what he likes and does seem to get away with it. The MJ thing finished it for me. And he still carrys on. And he never ever apologised for it. He is sick, and doesn’t care whom he hurts with what he has said. And the Will.I.Am thing…well violence isn’t the answer but always remember it’s words that started wars not fists.
Why he is good for Gay America? Are you flippin kidding me? I’m about to throw up my breakfast. Someone seriously needs to slap him silly! Oh wait, someone already did!! Yeah, sure this is coming from such a moral standard person that he feels it is his right to out celebrities. Yeah, sure he feels like a role model..BULLSH8T! Sure this is the same butthole who posted photos of Dustin Lance Black(who wrote Milk) on his website. Dustin gives this eloquent acceptance speech at the Oscars how his mom loved & did not turn her back on him no matter what her church might say. Then Perez decides it is his duty as to post the photos. He intentionally brought down a gay man YET if you disagree with him on any gay issues he will destroy you (hello Miss California). I’m sorry but to me, Perez is a terrorist. That is what sucks about the internet now, any butthole can become famous by having a website. If you are a teenager and gay, listen up PEREZ IS NOT A ROLE MODEL! Perez is a ROTWEILER!
There’s a way to run a gossip and entertainment blog (PinkistheNewBlog, Ohlala, PrettyontheOutside, LaineyGossip, Dlisted, Defamer) and then there’s Perez.
