James Franco's UCLA commencement address revealed! (In a manner of speaking.)

Categories: Current Affairs, Film

Months before June's commencement address, when it was announced that James Franco would be UCLA's commencement speaker, the entire campus full of Bruins roared, demanding to replace the bleezy smoking dude with someone who was "as esteemed as a commencement speaker of UCLA’s caliber should be." Naturally, they chose that one curly haired guitarist from Linkin Park to replace him. Franco rebutted, stating that he was too busy with preproduction on a movie to speak anyway. Sure.

Finally, in the NSFW video below, we discover the true reason why Franco didn't speak — UCLA is a school full of pretentious prudes his offer was rescinded. Take a peek below and find out the truth for yourself, and how college like, really does take "minds into space like a rocket!"

    I LOVE James Franco!

    Genius!

Try to get your facts straight next time, David. Franco was offered the position as commencement speaker months ago. A few hundred people complained, which you guys helped to turn into some huge controversy. Two weeks before graduation, he pulled out, and was replaced by a fellow UCLA alum on very short notice. Now I’m a Bruin, so clearly I’m biased. Call us pretentious if you like, but get your facts straight first.

Hahahaha, that was genius! All the UCLA students who complained need to get over themselves – totally their loss.

I graduated from UCLA this year and never understood why the other students didn’t want Franco to speak. But as for his side, CLASSIC! I wish he would make more “Acting with James Franco” since I miss Dave so much :D “Actors sniff jackets!” <3

All the more reason to love James Franco.

Liking JF or not is a personal opinion. Whether you like him or not, you have no right to tell others to like/dislike him. But it’s UCLA’s commencement. So I’d assume that on this matter, UCLA students have a greater say over other people. And I think it’s within UCLA students’ rights to make some demands regarding their own commencement. Stop making this into such a big deal.

Anyone see more than a passing resemblance to Joey Tribiani here? Adorable.

For him to have the audacity to poke fun at the fact that he flaked on a commitment with less than two weeks to graduation just shows Franco’s level of maturity. As a UCLA student who graduated this year, I can honestly tell you that yes some students had a problem with Franco speaking, but this was a well publicized fact and did not excuse him from canceling at the last minute. Especially as an actor, he should know by now that any event is a PR event and should not be taken lightly. I don’t expect his career to go far if he keeps up with this pretentious attitude.

I graduated from UCLA 5 years ago, and I would have loved a speaker like this. So not understanding what all the fuss is about. At the ceremony I went to, a big group of my friends and I were all a bit buzzed, so no one was really listening to the speaker to begin with (sorry, Frank Marshall, esteemed producer and alumnus).

I graduated from UCLA 5 years ago, and I would not have had any problem with a fellow graduating student speaking. As a matter of fact, at my ceremony, no one really paid attention to the speaker (sorry Frank Marshall, esteemed producer and alumnus). We were all too jazzed to get to the champagne ceremony afterwards.

“Go out and make babies”? That’s nearly as bad as USC commencement speaker Arnold Schwarzenegger’s advice to “marry a Kennedy.”
