Emma Watson 'guns' Letterman

As someone who actually spent eleven years attending an English boarding school I've never felt the desire or the need to investigate the world of Hogwarts. But I have always been impressed by Emma Watson whenever she does the rounds promoting Harry Potter and the Magical Bowl of Crusty Porridge, or whichever of the HP movies happens to be coming out at the time.

Watson was once again on charmingly-if-mildly-pugnacious form last night talking to David Letterman. When Dave quizzed the actress about her plans to study liberal arts in America and asked her exactly what "liberal arts" involved, Watson responded, "Do you live in the States? Shouldn't you be telling me this?" (Letterman's response: "The kid just gunned me!") Watson also kept her cool when Dave produced a photograph of her "wardrobe malfunction" at the recent, rain-soaked UK premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ("At least I'm wearing underwear") and admirably coped with the fact that Letterman appears to know even less about the Potter movies than I.

Check out the clip below and tell us what you think.

Is it just me and/or the amount of time I’ve spent watching Craig Ferguson interview people….but is Dave losing his touch? I mean, he just seems out of it so often when he interviews guests anymore. As if he’s not that interested in being there…
Just an observation. Oh, and I have an inappropriate crush on Emma Watson to match Mandi Bierly’s crush on Daniel Radcliffe….wow has she grown up well.

She is such a charming young lady! I’ve enjoyed Emma’s Hermione since movie 1, and it is wonderful to see that she appears to have maintained a down-to-earth sensibility despite the enormous popularity of the films. I hope we get to see her act in many more films to come, beyond Harry Potter.

i agree! she handled him wonderfully. i especially like the part when she quipped back, “are you trying to gun me now?” that was great. hopefully she keeps that good head on her shoulders and has a great, long career in hollywood.
i did think it was slightly creepy when letterman pulled out that shot :S but she handled it. good on her!

Yes, she was very charming and seems like a level-headed young actress (they are so RARE these days). But I agree that Letterman is a little bit strained lately. Maybe he’s just tired. I suppose that job gets very same-y after a while.

That is how young actresses should act on these shows. Watching Kristen Stewart(Twilight)do interviews is like watching paint dry. They should all be as charming as Miss Watson.

Emma handles herself very well in interviews and last night she really had fun talking to Dave.

I should hope Emma Watson will have a long career, and that she will go back to visit Dave often. They spar well together!

Love Letterman and Emma! Great interview!

She is a lovely girl, and handled Dave’s showing of that picture with aplomb. She was gracious, quick-witted and slightly snarky, and I hope that she has a wonderful acting career ahead of her.
And yeah, Dave seems pretty disinterested in his guests. Maybe he means to come across as humorously befuddled, but it ends up looking as though he doesn’t care enough to do any research.

Emma, Rupert and Daniel seem to be avoiding many of the traps that ensnare people who become famous at a young age. Kudos to them for their maturity and class.

Love her. She shows you don’t have to be brainless to be a young actress in show business. I agree it was a little creepy for Letterman to pull out the photo.

Letterman is becoming a dirty old man. He was great back in the day, but now he’s just annoying. He’s about as informed about his interview subjects as Larry King.

Good grief Dave has become a creepy, dirty old man. Emma was classy and great. Dave was ignorant and charmless. What happened to the guy?

I thought that Emma Watson handled herself perfectly, she is beautiful and completely classy. One thing that did annoy me in the interview was how she constantly pulled back her hair. Still I think that she is the perfect role model for teenagers. Ledderman trys to be funny but just isn’t.

Classy girl, creepy Dave. But seriously — if you have to mess with your hair that often, Emma, it’s time for a new style!
