Zach Galifianakis' next movie: PopWatch poll

Zach-Galifianakis_l-1 As the scene-stealing star of The Hangover, Zach Galifianakis continues to weigh his film offers, entertainment writers continue to debate what his next movie should be. The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz Blog notes that his name has been tossed about with three projects — in addition to The Hangover sequel — but that he's yet to attach himself to any of them. So, let's help him decide. His options are said to include:

Due Date: This comedy reportedly revolves around a stranded business executive who must hitch a ride with a slacker (Galifianakis?) during a snowstorm to get back to his pregnant wife. Hangover director Todd Phillips is attached to produce and potentially helm.

Say Uncle: This comedy reportedly centers on a bachelor (Galifianakis?) who unexpectedly has to take care of his brother's children when his sister-in-law goes into labor and the couple heads to the hospital solo.

Man-Witch: This second Phillips comedy reportedly follows a grown man (Galifianakis?) who nurtures his recently discovered supernatural abilities by attending an all-girls' witch school. Jack Black was once attached to the now vacant leading role.

Which film gets your vote? Unless the Due Date script is miraculously as funny as Planes, Trains and Automobiles, I'd pass. Say Uncle has a refreshingly simple plot on paper that I fear would get out of control on screen. Man-Witch's awesomely bad title immediately draws me in (like Hot Tub Time Machine). It could either be a funny 90 minutes or a Rob Schneider film. I really don't think he should do it, and yet, I totally want him to…. Your call.

    Man-Witch sounds hilarious.

My vote was for “Say Uncle” almost out of default.
Mandi’s absolutely right in that “Due Date” sounds like an unofficial (and, ultimately, less funny) update of “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” with Zach in the John Candy role. I also say no to “Man-Witch” because if I were Galifianakis, my biggest concern would be to become the guy who picks up Jack Black’s crumbs.
Zach’s obvioulsy proven that he can play off kids (even mostly-silent babies) so I go with “Say Uncle” (though frankly none of these look all that great.)

And isn’t “Say Uncle” just an update of “Uncle Buck”? When did Zach become a standn for John Candy (not that I don’t love John Candy)? Anyway, we all know Zach needs to make the most independent movie of all time!

  • Ceballos

Lucas…great call on “Say Uncle” basically being “Uncle Buck” as well. Gotta love the Hollywood mindset: here we have a heavier-set rising star, so let’s try to make him the next Candy/Black/Farley, stat!

  • Kevin

I wouldn’t discount a role just b/c someone else passed, didn’t michelle pfeiffer pass on Silence of the Lambs? or was it Meg Ryan? anyway you see my point?

  • Ceballos

Kevin, I totally see your point and there are countless examples of actors making boneheaded decisions and passing on iconic roles.
What I’m trying to say is that if I were Zach Galifianakis, I’d want to be known more than the poor man’s Jack Black.

    How about “Snuggler: The Movie”?

Sounds like Hollywood has no clue what to do with this guy, so they go to what worked with other large-size actors. He needs to do an independent film, maybe a drama, I did kind of like the “Due Date” concept and I could see it being funny with Steve Carell as the dad.

none of them. i would really really really appreciate it if R-rated comedians would STOP doing movies about kids or having kids. not because it’s inappropriate, but because I don’t want to have to watch it just to get my Zach fix.
