Sci Fi changing to SyFy. It’s cartoonish and ridiculous. The channel has become a parody and a mockery of itself. Not that there was much on anyway, but now it’s just pathetic.

OK the Sci Fi channel just changed its name to SyFy….. Also in a related story Jiffy Peanut Butter changed its name to “STFU NUB Ub3r 1337 P3@nu7$ NOM NOM NOM”.
Hahahahhahaaaaaa…I love it. Read below for some reasons the name got changed.

Why would “Sci Fi” turn off viewers? It is what it is; people that like the genre will watch it.

No, how about “Sci Fi,” the way it was presented by the channel.

I say keep it classic. It now fits in with everything else today, which isn’t always a great thing.
“The new branding is the result of an effort to come up with a name that covered everything that fans expected.”
How does changing a few letters do this? It’s beyond me.
“The principal reason the idea kept coming up, Mr. Howe said, was a belief ‘the Sci Fi name is limiting.’”
Again, it’s still the same genre, same pronunciation.

Of course, it’s marketing and advertising. I still say keep it classic. I didn’t watch much of the channel before since it seems to be 98% B movies with cheesy effects. And I’m really not interested in the ghost stuff. Once in a while though, I did find something good on. Now, the new name is so annoying that I’d remove the channel from my cable subscription if I could. Even if I do find something on I’d like to see, the obnoxious “SyFy” in the corner of the screen has made it so that I won’t watch it anymore. I’ll skip right over the channel hoping I wont catch a glimpse of the logo. Too bad. Sometimes old school is the best school and sometimes new (aka “cool” and “modernized”) doesn’t always equal better.
So, what’s next: Drama becomes Drahmah? Action becomes Akshun? Congratulations, indeed; way to keep it real. Real Sylli.

SYFY All I can say is I Loved Dresden Files,First Wave,Farscape,MST3K,LEXX…Etc.
I Only Watch The Twilight Zone Marathons and Eureka anymore.I agree with most of the Comments.Just wanted to add 1 thing.Mass Marketing will Take over everything Eventually,because the “New” Collage Graduates are trying to find “New” ways to Take your money.Advertisers HATE Fantasy,Sci-Fi,Horror…If it isn’t real or Reality worthy Its receives no “Ratings Money”.So I agree with the one comment I will Buy or Rent the good Shows Left on DVD.

First, the name SyFy sucks, but who cares? Years ago you took away MST3K and I was bummed. As the years progressed you have taken away Farscape, Stargate Atlantis, and now the final straw, Stargate SG1. I have no incentive to watch SyFy. I enjoy Eureka and that will be my only excursion into the new world of unremarkable programming. Warehouse 13 had much promise and I was raptly engrossed in the show until I witnessed the most ludicrously juvenile ending to a TV program I have seen in a long time. I mean, Stevie Wonder could have seen it coming! Years ago I gave up on reading Stephen King because, let’s face it, he became predictable and boring. The same can be said of many other SF/Horror authors. There can only be so many things that go bump in the night. Now, I have witnessed a television station doing the same thing-totally unimaginative, boring and repetitive, mindless movies. They all have one line the same-’Let’s split up.’ And what’s with the wrestling? Jeez!

I’ll still watch if there is something I want to see, but I am disgusted by the name change. One of my pet peeves are cutesy misspellings. Don’t mind abbreviations tho for though, but when
people spell “kewl” for “cool” or even make the word longer for a cutesy spelling it grates on my nerves. Retarded if you ask me.

i watch syfy channel for several of the programs. i reallly am disgusted by one of the commercials with that man skateboarding with his thing hanging out of his jeans. children watch ure station and its bad enough they are bombarded by sexual contents on other channels and at the movies. why would u put something on your station where u know children will be watching. i am a big fan of Eureka as are my 5 grandkids and when this commercial comes on it really burns me up that my grandchildren are subject to watching it. plz remove that commercial. it is obscene.

New name is still stupid, but I’m super psyched for Eureka coming back on Friday, so I’ll still tune in.
