I'm not seeing the new Harry Potter film PERIOD, due the the inexcusably bad job Rowling did on Deathly Hallows. Everything in it either contradicts what she established in her earlier books, especially Half-Blood Prince; is merely a re-hash of what she put her characters through in Order of the Phoenix; or is nothing but double-talk on her part.
Sadly, no one wants to hear it.

I'm sure people who did not read the book will enjoy the movie more. They changed too many things and added a few pointless ones (like add the attack on the Weasley's house, but cut out the battle at Hogwarts). I wonder if the funeral will be at the beginning of the next movie, since it was left out. I was disappointed how they handled the astronomy tower scene (Snape says "Shush" to Harry???) There's NO way Harry would've just stood there and watch it happen. Also, although cute, Ginny was not with Harry when he hid the book in the Room of Requirement. In the movie, it's just an excuse to get them to kiss. One more thing, regardless of it being a change from the book, Harry should not have been allowed to just walk away after slashing Draco. No consequences??? How can a student (almost) mortally wound another student and not have consequences. Absurd.

I reread the sixth book before going to see the movie and was greatly disappointed by it. I don't know if that was why I felt it was so badly done but it seemed like they changed alot of things way more than the other movies and most of the changes made me wonder why they would bother doing it that way because it just created more problems. (IE: Luna instead of Tonks on the Hogwarts express, and the astronomy tower at the end would have been much easier and better if they had done it the way it happened in the book.) I dont think Im going to reread books before I see the movies any more.

I reread Order of the Phoenix so everything was fresh in my mind and I was a mix of terribly disappointed and completely outraged. This time I didn't dare look up funny excerpts or quotes. I want to like the movie of Half Blood Prince, so I couldn't touch the book again.

I always re-read, but it's important to make peace with the fact that the movie will not be identical to the book. Once you get over that, it's really not a big deal. If I don't re-read, I'm often distracted during the movie with thoughts like "Was that in the book? I can't remember..." As long as you're not watching the movie for a play-by-play of the book, I say go for it and re-read it.

I dont reread the books right before the movies. They leave too much out in the movies and it makes it too hard to enjoy the movies for what they are. I learned my lesson after not really enjoying "Prizoner of Azkaban." When I re-watched the movie I loved it. The first time i spent too much time comparing it to the books. The movies are INCREDIBLE. I think you have to let yourself enjoy the movies separately from the books. I will maybe re-read the book AFTER the movie but not before.

I'm re-reading the book, I always do. After reading books before seeing the movies, I never expect them to be the same. There's no way to fit all the characters and various stories w/in the plot into a 2 hour movie but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the films. I loved the 3rd Harry Potter film, the director did an amazing job and the 3rd book is my favorite as well. I can't wait to see the new movie.

For me, rereading the Half-Blood Prince is more about preparing for the movie than trying to remember how the book goes. I am incredibly excited to see the movie now, more so than before, and I realize that it will not be as good as the book. For me, it is like listening to all the songs you have by a band before you go to see their concert. You know that they probably won't sound as good as they do on the CD because of exhaustion and that they just don't get several times to try, but it helps you get pumped up and excited, which is half the fun, isn't it?

Personally, I like to reread the book after I see the movie. The movie, as great as they all are, always tends to leave things out due to time constraints. It is nice to go back to the book afterwards and think "Oh ya, that's what happened next!"
