'American Idol' re-run: Did you like anyone better the second time around?

I came away feeling like the contestants did get voted off in the right order, except for Danny, who never was as good as the judges seemed to think. Each time I see Adam from hindsight, I see something new — a vocal inflection, a facial expression, a riff I hadn’t noticed before, that just reinforces how extraordinary he is. And yes, I saw him tear up at the judge’s comments. It was their first time in that theatre, and I’m guessing from the crowd reaction, he knew he had accomplished what he came to Idol to do. American loved him, he’d knocked it out of the park, and the rest was gravy. Just made me love him all over again.
I was fortunate enough to see the whole season replayed here in Aus on Fox in the last couple of weeks. It was nice getting to see everyone perform again, particularly my fav, Adam. He was brilliant at everything he did and in my eyes was the real winner, nobody even came close to him. He is gonna be a major force to be reckoned with.
Adam and Matt was the best out of this show. Overall it was certainly one of the worse theme weeks. Anoop was so bad and Danny was dancing around like he was having a seizure. Kris nice guy, but horrible performance. Simon was so right about Megan, stupid song and clumsy dancing.
I only found Allison and Adam to be stand-outs. I did like Kris’ performance also, and that is about as animated as I’ve seen him perform. I have all of Adam’s performance videos, and watch them constantly, and even so I missed that he teared up at Paula’s and Simon’s remarks. Awww, shucks he’s cute. As much as I’ve come to like Kris, and appreciate his and Adam’s friendship, and however much I rationalize that he needed the win more than Adam did, I still get ticked all over again when I watch Adam’s performances and think that his incredible talent went without the title it deserved. Oh well. I’ll keep working on my piss poor attitude toward the blind ignorance of some people…!
Adam head and shoulders above the rest. Looks like a star, sings like a star, oozes stage presence and just mesmerising.
Adam definitely seemed like a star, and I’d say that Allison was also amazing.
Kris improved so much over the course of the season–I didn’t realize that until watching this back. He wasn’t as smooth and confident here as he was in later performances, but he was clearly very appealing and he joined Adam and Allison (and perhaps Matt) in being the only ones not to sound like they were doing karaoke.
To be clear–I think that Adam and Allison were the best pure singers of the season (love Kris too, no worries), and while they were both vocally rougher on this than they were in most of their later performances (probably nerves/excitement), their voices are still incredible and their star quality was off the charts from the beginning.
Well, I’m in the minority of no-minority. But Lil Rounds and Queen Latifah’s duet made me realize that yeh, Lil might have a chance at show business. I’d like to see her front a blues band, like Sharon Jones. She’s good looking, has a great figure, and a nice tone to her voice.
Watching again was just proof that Adam, even then, was in a league of his own and totally stood out from the rest of the perfomances. Allison really stood out too! But did they cut Kara saying “I hope Michael Jackson is watching this tonight” ?? I don’t remember seeing her say that this time. Roxanne, on the torrent sites there are two to choose from: “Adam lambert performances” which is a compilation of all Adam Lambert AI performances, and “Adam Lambert the movie” Try Demonoid, Btjunkie and Mininova I think. The person who put it together did a pretty good job.
I can’t believe Kris Allen made it past that round. Talk about missing notes.
check your local listings for there is a program called American Idol Rewind. They replay full seasons including interviews with the contestants today recounting their experience on the show. They have completed up to season 4. It was fun to see the first season and how different of a show it is from today.
I loved this performance from Kris. It was one of his first that endeared him to me. To the Adam fans, Adam had a lot of stage experience prior to him being on AI. He should have sounded like a pro after over 10 years of experience. He shouldn’t even have been on AI. Kris and all the other contestants did great jobs and most improved throughout the season, especially Kris. Great tribute to an amazing performer. There will never be another Michael Jackson just like there will never be another Freddie.
The first time I watched it, the only memorable performance (in a good way) was Adam’s. I remembered Anoop and Megan for all the wrong reasons. This time, I was also impressed with Allison. Maybe my kids distracted me and I missed her the first time? Or, at the time, I didn’t appreciate her since she was singing a song I had never heard in my life. Gokey was worse (voice and dancing) than I thought the first time around — why was I deluded back then??
I watched this only to see Adam’s performance. Kris is/was a nice kid with a nice voice but America got it completely and totally wrong. Adam should have won.
It was also funny to see how much the judges opinion of Lil changed in just a few short weeks. She started out pretty dang good in this performance and went downhill every week after. Rewatching this reminded me of how much I don’t like Kara and how tired I am of Randy Jackson.
