While my summer TV schedule is child's play compared to regular season viewing, Monday nights are pretty robust, especially thanks to Showtime's female-led dark dramedy one-two punch of Weeds and Nurse Jackie. But there can only be one Queen of Mondays. Who will it be: Nancy Botwin or Jackie Peyton? Let's break it down:
Drugs Both shows are about drugs, kind of. Nancy sells them, Jackie does them, and both women manage to escape what that often means for other people — prison, say, or an inability to function. Jackie's drug abuse is more realistic than Nancy's trafficking role, so point to Jackie.
BFFs Is that friend or frenemy? Jackie pals around with a fancy British lady, while Nancy finds herself weirdly tied to the erratic, emotionally barren Celia. I don't totally buy Jackie and Dr. O'Hara's relationship — really? the no-nonsense, spendthrift Jackie's best bud is a loopy doctor who spends thousands on clothing she just throws away? — but at the same time, I sometimes hate Celia so much I feel the need to fast forward her scenes. It's a draw.
Sexytimes On Jackie's side, there's a hunky, doting husband — and an enabling, not-as-hunky pharmacist she gets freaky with every day at noon. On Nancy's side, there's…well, right now there's just the really hot, really dangerous, maybe abusive politician and drug kingpin Esteban. Plus, Nancy's brother-in-law Andy is crazy about her (when he's not too busy getting it on with her sister), and over the course of the last few seasons, we've seen the naughty Mrs. Botwin through some pretty excellent adventures. Winner: Nancy
Which means it's a tie, and now it's up to you, PopWatchers! Who rules your Mondays, Nancy or Jackie?

NANCY! she’s awesome!
I’m in love with Nancy Botwin – not Mrs. Parker – but the character. Nurse Jackie is going to be fun but it has a ways to go to gain the same momentum as the quirky Botwin clan and crew.
Nurse Jackie started off strong but by the 3rd episode it’s losing its grip. Characters are so cliche that the entire episode seems predictable. I am not buying the BFF angle between Jackie and Doc O’Hara either. Get real, writers, seriously!! Have they ever stepped in a hospital or seen doctors/nurses perform. On top of all this, the show is horribly slow and stories hardly move. I am giving up on it.
Weeds, on the other hand, doesn’t pretend to be what it’s not. If for nothing else, the show is great just to see the actors give their best performance.
What was the tagline of that ‘Alien vs. Predator’ movie? “Whoever wins, we lose”? I feel similarly about Nancy and Jackie. Both played by phenomenally talented actresses, but both so deeply “edgy” (more so Nancy) that it’s become really difficult to root for either one. I ultimately give ‘Nurse Jackie the edge here, because I think there’s hope for the show; even as a broad comedy, ‘Weeds’ has simply lost almost any connection to reality.
How dare you make me choose! But, it’s actually quite a simple choice. While Jackie has the potential for long-term quality (love it so far), my heart belongs to Nancy…and Parker, and Weeds in general. Starting off on a strong a point as it ended last season, I would follow Nancy and Weeds to the ends of the earth.

As if there’s a question! Nancy FTW.
By far it is Mary Louise Parker’s Nancy Botwin that wins.
Ditto what TicklePig said!
That would be Brenda Johnson played by the amazing Kyra Sedgwick. Sorry, I can’t afford Showtime.
While Nurse Jackie is starting to grow on me, I’m still a Weeds fan first and foremost on Monday nights. I will always watch Weeds that evening. it might take me a few days to get to Nurse Jackie.

Nancy flicking lit matches at Celia. That scene alone beats Nurse Jackie all to h_e_l_l.
If I had to have one of them in my real life, I’d go with Jackie. Even though I hate her cheating on her husband, she does seem to put her children before herself. I don’t think Nancy has done that for quite awhile. But I prefer the series “Weeds” to “Nurse Jackie.”
Nurse Jackie wins in my book. The show for some reason has my attention more. I can tolerate missing an episode of weeds but can’t miss an episode of nurse Jackie. To me both shows are really good and beat most shows I watch during fall/winter/early spring. Overall both shows are really good. Best part is during the summer when there is nothing else to watch at least I can expect not to see a re run of these shows 100 times.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE WEEDS RECAPS EACH WEEK??? I MISS THEM.
