So, yes, I'm still watching CBS' banished-to-Saturdays thriller Harper's Island becauseI'm (choose one) stubborn/masochistic/loyal like that. Read the full post.

I love the show. The past few weeks have been pretty intense and Saturdays was the best one yet. What started out as a gimmick (one murder per show) really works as a long form thriller/horror/mystery movie, at least from my perspective.
I love this mini-series. It’s going to be tough to find something to watch when this ends. I thought it was either going to be Chloe or Jimmy. Now Chloe is gone, and I agree they can’t have named Jimmy this soon, so there has to be another twist. They should have pictured all characters on internet, and we could have printed it out and crossed them off as they were eliminated. It’s going to be interesting. Can’t wait.
I couldn’t stand them at the beginning of the show. I didn’t really like them until Saturday. I actually found myself saying “No” when Cal was killed. I have a hard time believing that she is really dead.
When cal was standing infront of john wakefield I was hoping he’d survive somehow, but the minute he got stabbed my eyes were tearing and the minute that chloe said you can’t have me and let go of the railing I cried, they were my favorite:(
I hope abby gets Wakefield soon!
I COMPLETELY agree. This was far and above the best episode of the season and was due to the loss of the two best characters on the show. I fully believe that if they found a way to have had a few more characters to support would have been a success. Frankly anyone else could die out of who is left and I would not bat an eye.
Yes! Cal and Chloe evolved and I was pleasantly surprised at their denouement. I really enjoy this show and have no idea how it will end. I can’t believe I agree with Sleazak on this and AI this year. Guess pigs CAN fly.
Michael, you are not alone! These two were far and away my favorite characters–particularly Cal. He was the only member of the cast with any spark of personality and I had grown quite fond of him. I really couldn’t believe it when he died–I had convinced myself he was destined to make it off the island! RIP Cal.
I finally watched the last 3 episodes last night, and I was screaming at the stupidity of the characters. In the scene where they’re hiding in the bar from Wakefield, they decide to create a diversion by throwing molotov cocktails in the pickup NEXT to the car they’ll be using for the getaway?!? And when Wakefield finally breaks in, Trish grabs the shotgun and runs away?!? SHOOT HIM!!! Jeez!! How does this crap get written? And why am I compelled to keep watching?
I love Harper’s Island it’s such cheesy summer fun! I was sad about Chloe and Cal I thought they would survive.
It’s great summer entertainment!
Cal was my fav character as well sad to see him go. The scene in the hotel as well was asinine, unless Trish is the second killer. Pointing the finger at Jimmy is way to obvious in my book.
Michael…it’s official, come to Houston, we’ll hang out.
I wasn’t just dripping tears, I was screaming “NO!” at the tv….and just like you, I finally found someone that I cared if they lived or died on this island. I’m sure that’s what doomed them, though.
Can’t wait for the two-hour finale!
I’m sticking with it because I love the cheap fake-out shots, the fact that the Jericho people are behind it, and the fact that the eps are titled with sound effects….startlingly relevant ones for each ep.
I thought I was the only one watching this still!! I wept openly when Cal and Chloe died. I honestly was charmed by them from the beginning. Her loyalty to him, particularly when Sully was hardcore flirting with her, was so sweet and endearing. I was really rooting for them.
I liked Cal from the beginning and Chloe is the only character that has grown. She never seemed completely cliche. She was clever getting her ring back and capable and decisive helping Cal with the sheriff’s injuries. She never fell for the blond guys line and joined right in with Cal to pay him back for the crap he was giving Cal. If you go back and watch you will notice that she is actually the voice of reason several times. And then brave in the end. They were by far the best characters and I was sad to see them go. My guess is Henry is the killer. He is the real child of Wakefield. Or maybe it’s someone else
i love this show! i can’t wait until it comes out on dvd (september 18, everyone!). but yeah, chloe and cal’s deaths were tragic! i didn’t cry because i had a friend over and wasn’t about to get all teary-eyed in front of her, but i definitely watched it again later and got depressed all over again. i didn’t think i could get so attached to these characters, but that’s obviously not the case. i hope henry, trish and sully get off the island safe, but odds are, the killer will end up being one of them and NOT jimmy, which would suck since i picked him from the beginning.
Oh my goddness. i thought i was the only one still watching this. i completely teared up when watching this scene. i thought that wakefield wanted them to live when he originally spared chloe. but he didnt. when chloe said “you can’t have me” and plunged into the river with cal, it may have been the bravest and most romantic part of the entire episode. she knew shed never find another cal, even if she did miraculouslly live, but she didn’t want to go on without him, so she willfully plundged herself into the river to be with her one true love. Forever.
