If you want to change the ending of the book — just write your own story! I loved the book and think it ended the way it should. Life does the unexpected sometimes. And it is not always a happy ending. I have not seen the movie because I loved the book. And I am not sure if Cameron Diaz is a good enough actress to play this part. Can she play one of Jodi’s super-moms if she has no children of her own? I just don’t think she has the range. I also just read “Handle With Care”. Another great book by Jodi Picoult.

I am way more likely to see the movie now knowing the ending was changed. I read the book about two years ago and threw it down in disgust at the end. That ending was so manipulative. It wasn’t true at all. A better ending to the book if she had to kill someone would have been to not have the kidney transplant work. That would have stayed through to her message of not planning how life will turn out. It was a terrible ending originally and I hope the movie’s change rescues the story.

People are so ridiculous. With all the BS in the world who cares about something that happens all the time in movie adaption. Movies are movies and books are books. Enjoy them for what they are. If your precious reading experience is ruined at the movies then you should have learned by now that the movies are rarely as good as the books and just stay home.

I would only see the movie if the ending was changed. The book was fantastic… until the end.

Although I was kind of disappointed with the movie’s ending, it didn’t change my view of the movie as a whole. It was a WONDERFUL movie and I feel that all of the actors did a tremendous job in each of their roles. I am an avid Jodi Picoult fan (I have read all of her books to date)and when I read My Sister’s Keeper for the first time, I loved the ending. I got Jodi’s message. The movie takes a different perspective, and I think they did a good job. I would have liked it with either of the possible endings. But overall, the movie is definitely worth the $8.50 to see!

As a fan of the book, I was “livid”. I wasn’t completely loving the movie to begin with, but I think being faithful to the ending would’ve left me with an overall good impressive. But…nope. FAIL. Why adapt a Picoult book if you aren’t going to include the twist?

Nothing new here. Hollywood routinely gives happy endings to the unhappy books. If they did it to the movie versions of THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV and THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, why should Jodi Picoult get off easy? :)

I am disgusted–just got home from seeing it and people in the theater just gasped–and no one seemed “moved” by new ending. The problem is most who will go to see this movie read the book, the book leaves you thinking about it for days–this typical ending changes the whole feel–even the meaning of the title–My Sister’s keeper.

It is terrible that they changed the ending – there’s now impact now. I hate it when movies don’t follow books.

After seeing the trailer, I have no desire to see this movie.

  • Alex

I’m sorry they changed the ending. It was an important part of the story.

What’s more HOLLYWOOD: making the ending to a movie like the book where the main character suddenly dies or where the main character lives? I think the ending to the book was more for shock and entertainment whereas the ending for the movie made the entire story seem more real than say the HOLLYWOOD EFFECT that everyone believes the screenwriter made. I think it was a good choice.

No one is more angry than me. I have had the book on my shelf for 2 years, and hadn’t gotten around to read it. When I heard about the movie, I got right on reading. I was in love. It was a horrible movie. They are stupid for messing with such a suprise. When people say “Sixth Sense” everyone knows without saying anything more. That could have been “My Sister’s Keeper” Too bad, I waisted my money. I should start a picket line. BOO!

I love Jodi Picoult’s novels because there is always a unique twist in the plot line in each of her books. To change the ending of MY SISTER’S KEEPER is unthinkable. I was very excited about seeing the movie until I heard about the ending and a few other changes that were made. I will not see the movie now. Please don’t pay to see this movie, spend your money on the book instead (or on any of Jodi Picoult’s books). You will not be disappointed!

I was extremely disappointed with the movie and did not like the alternate ending one bit. The book was so much better than the movie. The movie has let me down.
