The trailer for the upcoming Cameron Diaz/James Marsden movie The Box is out, and there are so many "outside the box" or "steps into the batter's box" puns to make that I simply cannot choose. BYO box pun.
The movie, based on the Richard Matheson short story, is about a mysterious stranger (rather than those totally explainable ones, you know how it goes) who offers Norma and her husband Arthur $1 million to push a weird button — which, he says, will kill someone they don't know. Push it? Don't? The human condition/greed/WWJD/where do buttons like that come from/etc then for about two hours.
Well, those are certainly some bodacious '70s costumes, and some equally bodacious Southern accents. I love a good Twilight Zone-style exploration of wickedness (the story was also adapted into an '80s ep of TZ), but I worry that there's not quite enough natural tension to sustain an entire feature. Also, when did Cameron Diaz start playing moms all the time? I feel so old.
What do you think, PopWatchers? Are you going to celebrate Boxing day?

What I liked about this movie is the crazy casting they did. It’s like an episode of Carnavale. Also it looks to be a pretty high quality Thriller. I tend to avoid thrillers because they usually look like they were filmed over a weekend.
I think this trailer looks pretty good (maybe pushing that button can somehow restore the rest of Frank Langella’s face).
I also actually like that Cameron Diaz is playing moms and generally shying away from dumb romantic comedies to get back to doing more relatively grown-up roles. I’m also a big fan of Marsden and Langella.
I remember the 80′s TZ episode (Dad loved the original series so I watched this with him). But I remember no action happenning. Just talking of the ramifications.
I remember this episode too. It was from the first season (85-86) of the new Twilight Zone. The episode was titled “Button, Button”. It had a nice twist at the end, as they usually did. I’m curious how they’ll expand it to feature length.
This actually looks like a thriller with brains. I’m all for movies that entertain and make you think, and I’m digging the trailer for this one. Will it eventually be awesome? That’s to be seen, but judging on this trailer, what a ride it’ll be!
It’s a very well made trailer, and any movie with the charming Frank Langella is one I’d be happy to see.
If Frank Langella is in, I’m in!
They filmed a lot of this where I work, and they hardly changed it at all. It’s going to be so weird to see in on the big screen.
After Southland Tales, it’ll be a while before I give Richard Kelly another chance.
Movie looks interesting… but what about them using the same score from the Saw Movies… and if it comes out near halloween, i’m sure it will have to go up against the 88th Saw installment
Does anyone know the name of the song near the end of the trailer? The one that sounds suspenseful and climactic?
At first I saw a snip of this trailer on tv and wanted to see it but now I’m not so sure because it seems predictable and cheesey especially since they used the saw theme song, which is called “hello Zepp” by Charles Clouser. Why they bitin?!
I think this was also an episode of Tales from the Dark Side.
